It is aweful and I am afraid that once again the people who can't afford to live there will be required to pay for repairs in the form of taxes and QE currency depreciation.
SL8R71, you are a moron. The owners of these houese rent these places out to people wanting to vacation at the beach. They don't make money on these places. I know, I have one. You can see it in the last frame!!
@MrFjenn All the more reason that SL8TR71 is correct. Every single one of those damn beach rentals and houses should be demolished and never allowed to rebuild.
@joesamprerer yes it is a very nice place! I went July 26-29 this past summer and it is amazing. They are so friendly there and there's so much to do in such a small place! Once you visit and you meet the people that live there you feel so much more connected. I feel like they are good friends and was very worried and sad about my poor outerbanks. Much prayer to them! Btw if you do go make sure to visit the teeny tiny ocracoke. It was by far my favorite part of the outerbanks (:
@SL8R71 They're not retards, and they're not looking for sympathy. The people that live there know the dangers that they'll face when building and/or living in the Outer Banks, and they're insured for it as well. They made an informed choice to live there, much like you chose to live wherever you are.
@TravelinMan24 Being an actual native of the area, and a local, I'm with SL8R71. I've had enough of these damn tourists. They ruin everything that they get near. They wreck the local economy, destroy the housing market, trash the local environment, they build ugly yet expensive homes on top of piles of sand and when the inevitable happens, they want the government to fix it for them. To hell with every single one of them, there should be no new building permits issued for the OBX for ten years
@renewilkinson1967 Since you said "i pray" i assume you're religious. Real nice thing to wish upon people, take example from your god. Ohh wait he burns non-believers in hell. You two are pretty similar.
wow that island looks like just a sandbar at some places. glad it didn't all wash away. looks like a nice vacation spot, hope i get to visit this place someday...

Bad luck guys, hopefully it works out for everyone!
Although living right on the coast, especially small low-lying islands it was bound to happen sooner or later. Doesn't mean you deserved it, though.
