I remember reading how at one point, troops in the Legion were organized by language! Imagine that now. More than 150 nationalities serve in the Legion "aujourd'hui." When they left Algeria they set up in France and then they adopted French as the language for the Legion.

@MadamKouassi Yea, I was in Iraq oct 2007-may? 2008. I was also in Afghanistan in 2009. Another thing, FFL are not PMCs. PMC is a contractor, meaning they contract for a job. Just like someone contracting to build a house. FFL are technically mercenaries, however I wouldn't call them that.
@taberr5 Not so much anymore. They are a separate unit from the French army, but they are completely under French control. Before, they were far more independant. That was before they tried to assassinate Charles De Gaulle (Or however you spell his name.)
Since then they've sort of lost that mercenary label and have become a French controlled, foreign volunteer regiment for people who want to do something different with their lives.

this is tough, but honestly i can see BUD/S for the Seals being a lot more difficult, 6 months of hell. the class starts with roughly 80 people, and less than 20 actually graduate, hell week the get about 3 hours of sleep the entire week, then special forces selection alone is excruciating, plus another year of training after that. Then selection for SFOD-D and DEVGRU aren't really that well known
From 80 guys in legion about 10-15 would graduate, they have the same training+they get beatings if they fuck up and so, alot harder to be in the legion imo.
@BaFUD don't think so, on average about 15% of SEAL applicants successfully pass BUD/S, as far as beatings are concerned, SEALs don't have to be beat because they do not fail. lol
@BaFUD well the guy above you says that 10-15 out of 80 make it, thats a 12.5-18.75% success ratio, that leaves you guys with a 2.5-8.75 margin of error, which doesn't do a whole lot to legitimize your claims when you guys can't even agree on the pass rate of the legionaires, I'm not saying the legionaires aren't good, far from it, but you have to remember that SEALs are far more versatile, and that even after BUD/S more training is required in which they can fail out.
Yes you can get kicked out of the legion too after basic lmao, training needed too. Im not saying seals are bad, but im just saying that legion have been alot longer around, they manage to take people around the world and mold them to alot better group than seals.
@BaFUD, The FFL are a premiere light infantry, Everywhere I've looked put them on par with the Rangers, which is a special ops force.But I don't see the FFL doing HALO or HAHO jumps, (correct me if I'm wrong) neither do I see them with the capability of operating underwater, and even if they do theres no way they're as proficient at it. Everything I've seen the FFL do is pretty much what the 75th Rangers do

@BaFUD i did some research, and apparently the SEALs are universally recognized in having the toughest training, its not just pride talking there. Whereas the FFL has more capabilities, while the SEALs are more versatile as individuals. FFL will be given a mission such as enter a country by parachute, which is why i compare them to the rangers, and the SEALs use stealth to get in behind enemy lines and complete an objective. They do different things, which is why i have seals as more specialized
different missions indeed with high-tech. dats the biggest positive thing if we are comparing the training, legionnaires dont need much to survive. SEALs might have the toughest training to the public eye, but I think SAS/SA SF beats them anyday.

Maximum age is 40, and there was guys 37 and 38 in my section during basic training and they still made it. Show up in shape and try your best zimmaron.
yes sir there is special forces in the FFL,specialy in the "2eme Rep - para commando regiment" ,they belong to the 2nd cercle of special forces and precisly they are in the GCP (Groupement des Commandos Parachutistes), for exemple the company where i served the CEA ( compagnie d'éclairage et d'appui) belongs to the GCP.

Well, there are different courses organized within the 3REI.
The basic course (1 or 2 weeks long) is for all members who are stationed in Guyana. Later if you're good enough, you can apply for the 6 weeks one (AMF). it's not compulsory but if you earn the AMF brevet, you'll be well noted by your chefs, and it will be a plus for your career.

this is tough, but honestly i can see BUD/S for the Seals being a lot more difficult, 6 months of hell. the class starts with roughly 80 people, and less than 20 actually graduate, hell week the get about 3 hours of sleep the entire week, then special forces selection alone is excruciating, plus another year of training after that. Then selection for SFOD-D and DEVGRU aren't really that well known

@BaFUD well the guy above you says that 10-15 out of 80 make it, thats a 12.5-18.75% success ratio, that leaves you guys with a 2.5-8.75 margin of error, which doesn't do a whole lot to legitimize your claims when you guys can't even agree on the pass rate of the legionaires, I'm not saying the legionaires aren't good, far from it, but you have to remember that SEALs are far more versatile, and that even after BUD/S more training is required in which they can fail out.

@BaFUD, The FFL are a premiere light infantry, Everywhere I've looked put them on par with the Rangers, which is a special ops force.But I don't see the FFL doing HALO or HAHO jumps, (correct me if I'm wrong) neither do I see them with the capability of operating underwater, and even if they do theres no way they're as proficient at it. Everything I've seen the FFL do is pretty much what the 75th Rangers do

@BaFUD i did some research, and apparently the SEALs are universally recognized in having the toughest training, its not just pride talking there. Whereas the FFL has more capabilities, while the SEALs are more versatile as individuals. FFL will be given a mission such as enter a country by parachute, which is why i compare them to the rangers, and the SEALs use stealth to get in behind enemy lines and complete an objective. They do different things, which is why i have seals as more specialized

Well, there are different courses organized within the 3REI.
The basic course (1 or 2 weeks long) is for all members who are stationed in Guyana. Later if you're good enough, you can apply for the 6 weeks one (AMF). it's not compulsory but if you earn the AMF brevet, you'll be well noted by your chefs, and it will be a plus for your career.

There are french natives also in the French Foreign Legion... as till 1963, 50 000 french natives served in the FFL.

it doesnt matter. it is MEANT for foreigners, and a native who joins does it because they dont give a rats ass. therefore, the France doesnt give a rats ass

to CaptainAmerica322 : i am an ex CEA (2eme REP) and let me tell you why they treat us like that, it is to develop the aggressivity of the soldiers and you find such thinks in the US Navy too, you have to understand that we are not like the normal marines because the most of the FFL companies are elite or special forces companies thats why you see such thinks in our Stage.

Right frame of mind, dont give up, the training is said to be harder than most.
Dont look the DI(s) in the eye, they will think you eye-ballin em. Dont bitch, If you instructed to do something, get to it asap, dont wait, you will be royally fucked if you do that. Get as fit as possible, my dad used to run around his school's football field with bricks in his backpack until he puked. Maybe you should do that. Be able to do at least 50 push ups, 50 crunches, and 20 pull ups. NB: Stay positive.

hahahahaha corisca is in italy right? an island. aaha, thats awesome. Im still considering joining the paratroops (US Army) and trying to get into the 173rd so I too can go to italy. good food, good women. only problem is, most paratroopers get assigned to the 82nd based at fort bragg in fayetville NC....my hometown. id be right back where I started. it would suck. Marines, i could go to hawaii, or japan at least. still italy would be ideal
