Every time I've seen him perform in person I swoon. I first saw him perform when I was 9 and I fell in love. He is my reason for playing the violin. He has more talent in his little index finger than most people even have in their entire body.
I'm typically not much of a classical music fan, but there's no denying the beauty of this. Just gorgeous! Joshua Bell is a tremendously gifted musician!
The interpretive brilliance of the incredible virtuoso Joshua Bell and his fabulous Gibson ex Huberman violin WOW again! This man has no equal on the planet right now.
When I recently bought a new violin and inquired about a centered chinrest, the lady there told me snidly, that if I ever wanted to be involved proffessionally, that I would not be able to have one. The last three videos I've seen of Joshua Bell performances, he has a centered chinrest. I love it! Rules don't make artists...Artists make the rules.

-Sigh- I wish I could say I got to hear Joshua Bell play at my High School Prom...(I wish I could say I can go to prom in the first place, but I'm home schooled). But then again, I'm glad to just have heard it on Youtube.
Oh, and does anyone know where I can get sheet music for this? IMSLP doesn't seem to have it yet...Ponce, right?
@confirmed4brawl Are you making fun of me because of my loneliness or because of my stupid concept of the Proms? Well, let me tell you something; I am neither lonely nor stupid. I was commenting about a High School prom simply because of the fact that Joshua Bell was supposed to play for us on the date of. He instead changed his mind due to prior scheduled dates. And as for my supposed loneliness...Some people choose to be loners (although I do have friends). Being such does not make one odd.
he is defiantly a musician to listen to rather than look, at, and although i know you are only supposed to listen to this, i find myself having to look away from my screen to be able to bear it! nice music though
I too was introduced to this gorgeous melody at 16; however, I first heard it performed by my idol at the time, the great trumpet player, Rafael Mendez. His was referred to as "The Singing Trumpet" because of his incredible ability to express emotion through his horn, almost like a voice. For a different, but no less beautiful rendition of this truly wonderful song, you might take a listen..just search YouTube for Estrellita Rafael Mendez

So beautiful and heartfelt. I can't blame the people in the audience for swaying with the music from 1:25 to 1:40. I would too ;) Love this interpretation, and love Joshua Bell's talent.
I've never heard Ponce's Estrellita played this way - and I have been hearing it since I was a baby having been named by my father after the piece. Thank you for posting this interpretation by Joshua Bell.
Go Manuel M. Ponce!!!!. I'm very proud to have composer like him in my country: "Por tí mi corazón", "Marchita el alma" " La pajarera", "Lejos de tí", are excellent pieces, And I think that Joshua Bell and Perlman are wonderful violinists. Thanks for the video!!!
This is extremely HONEST and BEAUTIFUL!!!! Very MUSICAL!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!! It inspired me tremendously. Thank you, Joshua Bell and thank you for posting.
At one point in this tune there occur, in order, the 5 "magic notes" from Close Encounters. Given its astronomical title, I always assumed this was the source.
So beautiful. I first heard Estrellita as a 16 year old back in 1944 while serving on a Liberty ship in the South Pacific. We had one of those old wind up record players and someone had brought aboard a 78 rpm record of this beautiful song. Even with the terrible audio and all the scratches it entranced me, and it still does.
@DPerson626 I'm only 21, but that's got to be one of the greatest memories I've ever heard. When I first heard Estrellita was from an old vinyl my grandfather left me when he passed away, which I heard that same day. I was crying for his death and when this song came on I simply smiled, I knew he was happy then.
So, I'm going to begin studying violin in about two weeks (when my lessons begin) and I'm just wondering, does swaying back and forth help their playing in a particular way?
not at all, dont try to sway and do movements that are un-natural, if you feel the need to move, do so naturally when you feel the music. movement should never be planned.
It doesn't help or anything, it shows, however, how you feel about your music. It basically says that you are in to in very much that emotions are gushing out of you, YOU JUST HAVE TO MOVE! :D Good luck with the lessons, which technique will you be learning?
@MikaxNezumi It is all about the feel of the music. Most violinist don't start out moving when the first start to learn. You need to concentrate on the notes and positions before you think about the body movement. It will come naturally later.
I have heard this song since I was very young, but this is the best and finest Estrellita ever, Ponce would be very pleased. Joshua Bell is one of the greatest violinist of our time!
