You're right, it's higher pitch by half a step. So the tuning would be G A# D A C F, instead of F# A C# G# B E which I didn't know was actually possible without snapping strings
I'm the exact opposite. I went to his life show in Boston and every song he never failed to blow my mind. I think the way to put it is: if he's unbelievable on youtube, he's beyond conceiving live.
I agree, his live performances are amazing. And some of his new ideas, I agree, never fail to blow people's minds.
But to be specific, his latest version of Ebon Coast is a bit too fast. The ending is perfect though, the tone he has in the outro, the bass really pops, it's amazing.
And I'm starting to disagree with myself now. I like this version, and I used to go with his album version, but now that I've seen some more recent live videos, I like his live performances of Art of Motion.
I highly doubt that. The only Andy McKee song in DADGAD (Open Dsus4 Tuning) is Drifting. All of the official tunings are on his website. Also, seeing as how DADGAD isn't even in the same pattern has F#AC#G#BE, then that wouldn't make any sense, even if he were to alter the tuning by tuning it up or down a step or so.
Sorry, it's just a pet peeve when people assume that all fingerstyle songs are all in DADGAD.
well, i think people assume the guitar is in dadgad tuning when they see the player tapping, using percussion techniques, rather then when they are fingerpicking.
Magic !

This comment has received too many negative votes show
I think his live performance is not really really good (if you compare it with his art of motion video)
aytekincem94 2 years ago
Yeah, Ebon Coast and Art of Motion are two songs that I prefer his older versions over his live ones.
