Great review! I've had BlackBerry's, 1 Iphone and a few Sidekicks in the past but... I came to the conclusion that I don't need all those "extras". Also, I dont want to have to worry about scratching, or denting my phone. This seems perfect, definitely in the "maybe" pile.
@Ronnie4091 Glad to hear. This is a really good phone apart from the screen being somewhat dull and the menu being a little slow. Other than that it works great, the messaging inbox is also seemingly infinite (I've had like 800 texts in the inbox once haha). I loved that feature. And it looks pretty good!

@tornmask Yes, there are other phones with better features but T-Mobile's plans are pretty darn good now and the customer service is too. I would recommend T-Mobile prepaid over Net10 any day. And the best part is, you can use whatever T-Mobile phone you want with T-Mobile prepaid.

@tornmask T-Mobile's minute charges are not 25 cents a minute, it varies based one what card you buy. However if you purchase the $100 refill card your minutes will be 10 cents. But yeah, even with this T-Mobile does need to up the bar as you said. But Net10 does too. haha. Both are a good choice.

@gongxia649 You're welcome. Yes, the phone includes earbuds in the box and you must use them to listen to the radio. The radio uses the wire of the headphones to pick up reception so the radio will not work without the headphones.

@DarknessWyvern Well I can't comment on the Gravity 2 (is that phone still available? I think the Gravity 3 is out now) so I couldn't tell you about the call quality and battery life of those.
This phone has good loud call quality and the battery life is also pretty good due to it being a basic phone.
austin, as I said, it was meant as constructive feedback. Obviously doing these reviews is something you like and most people in that situation are open to feedback. Criticism/feedback is not necessarily a bad thing. Instead you should appreciate that some people try to give you a few pointers, instead of just throwing insults.

And that is why my phone sucks, getting a 5 out of 100. Do not buy this phone. (I want a RAZR V3 but its not available for prepaid, and my current sucky phone works... and... well... its a waste of money to buy another one)
oh i just like big screens and game compatibility a lot. Duh the Razr is fragile its so thin. And admit it, this phone has very limited memory. That's the big thing that ticked me off.

@urswaqqest You have to have Bluetooth on your computer I believe in order to do it. There's really no point in adding music to it though because there isn't enough memory.
@dandyboykb Yeah, it's a ridiculously small amount of internal memory. But as far as storing contacts go, you'll be fine. Photos and ringtones are the things you may not be able to store much of.

@364055797 The buttons feel kind of cheap and plasticky, but they aren't too bad. You'd get used to it. I've texted lots with this phone and it's not that bad, believe me.
@austin1776 Not that bad? How is the texting software? I mean the prediction. When you are trying to type a word not in it's dictionary, is that hard? Some phones don't have an easy way to avoid it trying to change your word into a dictionary word, without too many button presses. Does it predict a whole word before you are done typing it, so you can finish it with a single click if it's the right one?
@realisticHomeboy Um, I can't really say on that but the prediction software is very good, I've always liked the predictive text software from Nokia the best out of any phone manufacturer, so let me just say that in my personal opinion the T9 texting is very good. The letters are a little slow to appear on the screen after you type them in, but that's not a big deal and the prediction is great. And no it does not do the single click prediction thing you mentioned.

Can you set your own MP3 Ringtones on this phone? I have spent 30 mins on Google to find out and could not find answer for sure. It says MP3 Ringtones but what about custom made???
I'm pretty sure you can however you cannot edit the track on the phone.
What I'm saying is, if you have an MP3 on the phone and set it as a ringtone, it will play from the beginning, and there is no way to edit which part you want it to play.
@austin1776 you could on your computer, just not on your phone... but as long as It admits mp3 ringtones, you should be able to make it play whatever you wish, in case you already loaded that certain part you want to be played... i bet you already knew this, just wanted to make it clear in case someone didn't.

@HeyItsMeDaniel if you've ever used the motorla razr, it's got 1.3 megapix and it sucks. Anything 2 megpix and up is better. So, I.4 isn't going to be slightly better but not much. The pictures are very blurry.
Fantastically helpful video and I love your down to earth commentary. I am shopping for a rugged phone that will be functional and reliable for my father who doesn't see very well and needs big buttons. This looks like a great deal, especially since he will keep it in his pocket and sit on it regularly! I would have loved to see you actually dial a number to see how big the display is when you are dialing, but other wise AWESOME review!

yeah it is a durable phone. I got one from E Bay for $15.00 new never opened. Although it has none of the extended features of some high end phones , for the price I paid it's a pretty good handset and does a lot. My favorite is the built in E mail client.

I didnt really expect to win but a few days later I got the message , you won this item , sale price $15.00. MIne didn't come in a box , it came sealed in one of those plastic deals as a pre paid starter kit.
@CaceK It doesn't really matter how many lines there are, it's 160 characters in general for most phones. The phone doesn't even have the lines in the message. It's just an area to write your sms in. The only problem I have with texting is that the phone takes a second or two to open received messages.
@skinnymeling I've only made one or two phone calls with this phone because I only used it temporarily, but they were both good quality. Nokia has always made good sounding phones.
Or if you are referring to the ringing noise? It is loud and clear.

The 1661 is a basic candybar correct? I would definitely choose this one over the 1661, it has a lot more features and a nicer UI. This phone has good call quality and yes, it was easy to activate, just pop your SIM card in or go online to activate it if you aren't a current T-Mobile customer. It only took several minutes.
2 things about it - it falls apart if you even look at it and it will go offline and become blocked without telling you anything's wrong.

-It has the same problem as the Iphone 4 (U have 2 hold it rite) [Thats wat she said] -10 points
- Terrible Memory, and preinstalled data not deletable. (Says its "system data" Yeah, BS) -20 Points
- Can't receive applications properly, have over enough memory, but it says it's not enough -20 points
- Camera Terrible quality, even wen set on high quality -10 points
- When u have less than 2.5 MB of memory, it says mem is full (ANNOYING!) - 10 points

@austin1776 Not that bad? How is the texting software? I mean the prediction. When you are trying to type a word not in it's dictionary, is that hard? Some phones don't have an easy way to avoid it trying to change your word into a dictionary word, without too many button presses. Does it predict a whole word before you are done typing it, so you can finish it with a single click if it's the right one?

@realisticHomeboy Um, I can't really say on that but the prediction software is very good, I've always liked the predictive text software from Nokia the best out of any phone manufacturer, so let me just say that in my personal opinion the T9 texting is very good. The letters are a little slow to appear on the screen after you type them in, but that's not a big deal and the prediction is great. And no it does not do the single click prediction thing you mentioned.

I got a radio question, I have this phone and the problem I get with it is that it gets stuck at its synchronising motion, and it just stays stuck there. I can't get out of it or anything, i have to pull out the battery and then I have to re-initiate my phone. I'm sure there's a way around it, can anyone help me with this? =/

Can you set your own MP3 Ringtones on this phone? I have spent 30 mins on Google to find out and could not find answer for sure. It says MP3 Ringtones but what about custom made???

What I'm saying is, if you have an MP3 on the phone and set it as a ringtone, it will play from the beginning, and there is no way to edit which part you want it to play.

@HeyItsMeDaniel if you've ever used the motorla razr, it's got 1.3 megapix and it sucks. Anything 2 megpix and up is better. So, I.4 isn't going to be slightly better but not much. The pictures are very blurry.

Fantastically helpful video and I love your down to earth commentary. I am shopping for a rugged phone that will be functional and reliable for my father who doesn't see very well and needs big buttons. This looks like a great deal, especially since he will keep it in his pocket and sit on it regularly! I would have loved to see you actually dial a number to see how big the display is when you are dialing, but other wise AWESOME review!

There's a difference between a Micro SD card and a Micro SD card reader.
The phone does NOT have a Micro SD card slot, therefore you cannot expand your memory. This I know for sure. So, you can't expand your memory.

yeah it is a durable phone. I got one from E Bay for $15.00 new never opened. Although it has none of the extended features of some high end phones , for the price I paid it's a pretty good handset and does a lot. My favorite is the built in E mail client.

I didnt really expect to win but a few days later I got the message , you won this item , sale price $15.00. @CaceK It doesn't really matter how many lines there are, it's 160 characters in general for most phones. The phone doesn't even have the lines in the message. It's just an area to write your sms in. The only problem I have with texting is that the phone takes a second or two to open received messages.

The 1661 is a basic candybar correct? I would definitely choose this one over the 1661, it has a lot more features and a nicer UI. This phone has good call quality and yes, it was easy to activate, just pop your SIM card in or go online to activate it if you aren't a current T-Mobile customer. It only took several minutes.
