the punto was a nice car at the time of wat 1996 my punto 1.1 sx is far better than my friends car which is a fiesta zetec on a 99 plate and hasnt got no were near luxarys as mine electric windows remote central locking rev counter and at the time of 1996 the punto was better than some of its rivals

I can clearly remember my old black Bravo 10016V HLX being loaded compared to Escort Si's. Mine had E/S/R, E/W, E/M, H/Seats, Alarm/RCL, 16" 5-spoke Alloys, front fogs, ABS, spoiler. Others never looked classy or stylish with black privacy windows, only Bravo's did. I notice that new Corsas are copying Bravo's with the ringed back lights & coupe/hatch styling. Copy cats!

but there are a lot of car like punto, like rover, ford fiesta, mazda 2.

There is a lot of slagging off with Fiats, we built Rovers in Longbridge which are just as crap if not worse. My cousin had a Rover 214 with a K-series engine, the headgasket blew up twice, the gearbox broke, the inlet manifold was suffering badly. My old Fiat Bravo HLX was running a dream @ 110,000 apart from a blowing inlet manifold, brake light missing, & steering clicks.

I had a grey 1994 Fiat Punto S 1.7 TD as my first ever car. Absolute pile of... no rev counter, no central locking, no electric windows. Always broke down on me nearly every Monday morning after it was fixed. I really can't understand why Fiat extremists are defending it? I had it for 3 months & had to get rid of it for another car because it was so unreliable. I should have had that Fiesta Zetec 1.25 as my first car, its nicer looking & I would have kept it! I wish I bloody well did now.

Don't listen to the extremists. I had one of these as my first car. They are shit-boxes mate. My old Punt broke down every week on Mondays nearly spot-on. Thing that annoyed me even more was everything always snapped, broke or leaked causing me inconvenience. I'll never forget the good old days where I kicked the headlamps to shine properly, brake lights went, oil sump leaked, slave cyl leaked, radiator leaked, bonnet cable snapped, seat lever broke...

I have heard many many problems with an old car,but punto is like... guinness record?

Now all the kids who just got license they buying punto and civic vtec and they acting like racers,plus they add custom bumpers and stuff and they saying bullcraps like "punto is old n' hot".

Punto isn't that great,actually is crappy.

In europe you can find a lot better cars than the punto on the same budget.

Fiesta is a good example.

Not all Puntos are shit the new Grande Puntos are great & I would definately have one over a Fiesta. I havn't been put off by Fiats because I had 3 other Bravos since the Punto & they were great for less than a grand! Better than shitty Escorts & Rovers. The 1st generation Puntos were awful compared to Fiestas of that time & they kept that same awful corpse from 1994-1999 which was way behind the 1996-1999 Fiesta in its time. I think Fiat have learned their mistakes now & the Grande is A++

Fiats always have the better engines, running gears, gearboxes than Fords (i'll grant them that) but the poor flimsy build & leaks always let them down miserably. They were a pre-1994 design whereas a Fiesta was pre-1996 which mean't it was a bit more update with a more solid build & chassis for its day. Punto's had better rear legroom & headroom in fact mine had more than my Bravo!
