  • I watched the movie recently and yeah, Tenma was far from the Magnificent Bastard that he was in the 03 series or the unaccepting father from the 80's. Elefun washardly there, and the new characters were unoriginal.

Aside from that, it was great, and there's a lot of easter eggs around. Just to name a few, that scene when Astro learns to fly, he drills his way through a mountain just like in the opening of the 60's anime; one of the scientists looks like Tezuka's avatar,Hamegg final costume etc.

  • Tezuka's very 1st manga and anime... Awesome indeed, but the movie was okay, I wish it would have stick to the original story line. Some parts of the movie was great. I think it's suppose to be kid friendly. That's what happens when amaricans make their own version of Japanese originals. Other than that. I loved the movie, it's had a lot of funny bits in it.

  • @o01tuyet10o Well, Astro Boy was kid friendly as well. However, it was kid friendly for a completely different time that had completely different standards.

  • @soraheart Let's just say it would have probably turned out better, and maybe have actually been an original story (rather than a retelling).

  • @soraheart Yeah, I think a lot of people not really familiar with Astro would have been wondering what those black underpants and boots were about, considering they only show up twice in the movie (I believe it was only twice).

I'd say he was probably in his original costume originally, but then he was "covered up" to deter the "filty paedophiles".

  • Best Review I've seen^.^ Love the movie and anime!

  • my only gripes for the movie were that it wasn't as grungy as it was supposed to be and dr. elefun didnt play much of a role

  • Now that the film has flopped, do you think imagi will survive?

  • Probably not.

  • Well, the movie has yet to be released to a lot of other countries. Plus there are DVD sales to consider (I know I'm buying one!) It may yet make a profit. I really feel sorry for people who haven't seen it yet. They don't know what they're missing.

  • great review, im also an astro boy fanboy and was waiting for this film with mixed thoughts, and was pretty dissapointed that it went for the more kid freindly and comical side, but thats ok.

  • I was just dissapointed that there was no Atlas. Now that would've been a good fight right there.

  • maybe if there is a sequel itll probably have atlas or pluto

rumor has it if the movie reaches box ofice there will be a sequel

  • origianaly tenma wasnt evil

  • I never saw the 60's adaptation, only the 80's and '03 versions. He was evil in the ones I saw.

  • i know what your talking about i thought you ment evil as in the 2003 one not the 80s or 60s in those he was just cruel

  • No no, I didn't mean evil villain like in '03 (although he was entertaining in '03).

  • Unless you're talking storywise, in which, yes I do know he wasn't originally evil. But he becomes very villainous after he sells Astro to Hamegg and finds out Astro is back.

  • Wow you guys in Australia got this movie about a week before us in the states got it. Good review.

  • I gotta wait, with my brothers thinking it looks stupid having no idea what Astro Boy is aside from Commericals of the last adaptation to be on TV, and the fact I've yet to see Zombieland I think it best to wait for DVD.

  • I feel you, dude. It was an enjoyable movie. Definitely worth going to the cinemas.

  • But, sadly, it wasn't as good as it could have been. Y'know, story wise.

Other than that though, I did enjoy it.
