yeah, he doesnt usually live cos the venues arent that big. they arent in this video. when he recorded with albini he miced the kit with one overhead (a ribbon mic) and two stereo room mic configurations. one m/s pair and a spaced pair in omni on the floor. the last album is totally different. probably just a stereo overhead with a reverb unit to add ambiance.

Yes, it would be really cool, but it seems impossible now. Ian Williams is not the type of person who goes backwards in his musician life. I don`t see him playing his old tunes, specially when he seems happy with Battles (Wich is a great band indeed!)

He joined before their first album For Respect came out. He wasn't there right when the band formed but he's been there most of the time. He's the main reason this band is so good, in my opinion.

Don Caballero is one of the best bands in the last 15 years (and no one knows them! assholes). Progressive music is cheap shit compared to this complex sounds!

First of all most songs have a nice tune to them, which this one is just totally random.

Most songs actually sound like they planned the song out and wrote notes, these guys sound like they play anything..

And for gods sake, most bands know how to play the guitar!

just because this song have odd time signatures, odd notes, or odd structuring does not make it random, it just makes it different, it gives it taste as well.

how can you say ian williams doesn't know how to play guitar? he's actually very good at it, using tap technique and layering a la looping. just because he's doing something different then the bullshit you probably feed off of doesn't mean he doesn't know how to play the guitar.
