i change my mind, i think pacquiao can match speed pretty well with taylor. i studied two highlight videos. sometimes taylor is faster and sometimes pacquiao is faster. i feel like pacquiao is SOMETIMES even faster than taylor when pac's more concentrated on speed. but when pacquiao decides to put power it's a little slower. but that little bit is enough to be slower than taylor. but shit taylor is fucking fast. he's one of my favorites too now for sure.
i've seen pacquiao throw combinations at these speeds but at fewer punches per burst. taylor has a very amateur like style, in a good way because of how he throws punches in bunches. if pacquiao didn't focus so much on power, he might be able to consistently throw at this pace. with slightly less power but whatever works for him. taylor is freaking fast as hell tho. from the looks of this video, taylor can throw punches and last longer punching them than pacquiao.

You brought up a great point. Us fans look at the punches thrown more than the punches taken. Also, you are right that some boxers are at more risk of beng seriously injured. That is why there are very different boxing styles to assimilate to the person's abilities. Taylor and Whitaker were finesse fighters while Chavez was just a tough man who had an incredible chin.
I agree taylor beat Chavez but was robbed but that was pretty dumb to stand toe to toe with Chavez ali and chavez had the best chins ever. Amazing how taylor wasnt the same but Chavez took more punches than anyone and he is still fine mentally I guess some ppl can just take it and be efine.
What's really strange to me is that you see guys who were more or less known for their defensive prowess throughout their careers ending up punch drunk, or slurring their words. Pernell Whitaker is a fine example of a guy like that. @IhateMEXILANA I think Floyd probably has faster 1 punch handspeed, but as far as combinations go ; Meldrick let his hands go faster than any fighter I've ever seen. Him and Roy Jones Jr were the fastest punchers in the last 20-30 years, IMO.

@TheBringer2009 I so agree with this! Meldrick Taylors combinations with blazing speed is by far the fastest ever. No knock toward roy or leonard, Mel was lightning quick! But unlike jones and leonard who would punch, move and dance,Taylor stood and brawled. That "philly tough mentality"! But that same mentality got him in trouble in the chavez fight. If only he would have moved and danced around with his speed!

Interesting the skull thing. Look @ Henry Cooper. Well into his 70's now and still 100% lucid and articulate. Word is that Cooper's brain is VERY tightly packed into his skull so he did not suffer the brain bouncing off the brain injuries so prevalent in ex boxers.

You brought up a great point. Us fans look at the punches thrown more than the punches taken. Also, you are right that some boxers are at more risk of beng seriously injured. That is why there are very different boxing styles to assimilate to the person's abilities. Taylor and Whitaker were finesse fighters while Chavez was just a tough man who had an incredible chin.

I agree taylor beat Chavez but was robbed but that was pretty dumb to stand toe to toe with Chavez ali and chavez had the best chins ever. Amazing how taylor wasnt the same but Chavez took more punches than anyone and he is still fine mentally I guess some ppl can just take it and be efine.

What's really strange to me is that you see guys who were more or less known for their defensive prowess throughout their careers ending up punch drunk, or slurring their words. Pernell Whitaker is a fine example of a guy like that. Then look at a dude like Chavez ; someone who made a career out of eating leather, and there's not a damn thing wrong with them even after 50, 60, sometimes 70 or more fights.

Sounds pretty interesting, and I can't believe I've never heard of this before..... ....Though it would explain an awful lot about Chavez's seemingly unnatural ability to absorb damage.

You make Mexicans sound like they are that tough. many have been knocked out easily and there are those who do have an outstanding chin. It is about the person, not the race which means nothing. Meldrick was awesome indeed, but he went for homerun in the 12th round against Chavez which in the end he paid the price. Terry Norris was the icing on the cake for Taylor. He had no business in the rind with him.

You rarely ever see a Mexican fighter who is a counter puncher like Mayweather. They never RETREAT which is why they always make for an exciting fight. When have you ever heard of a Mexican fighter with a glass chin? NEVER. When have you ever heard of White or Black fighters with glass chins, counterpunchers, etc....ALWAYS.
Mexican fighters fight this way b/c of the culture they live in. If you don't understand what I am talking about, then research it.

Dagasa: Pac-man went through top flight Mexicans like they didn't exist. What is your counter for this? Morales came through once, but faded after that badly. The only Mexican that I know that will always give Pac-Man trouble is Marquez and in both bouts, marquez was knocked down but fought a tough fight both times.

Many boxing analysts think Pacman got beat by Marquez in both their fights. So i think that is a fairly good counter, do you? Manny never knocked out Marquez despite going 24 rounds with him. Marquez has never been knocked out. Manny has been knocked out in the past.
A few other mexican fighters that would've given Pacman lots of trouble: Julio Cesar Chavez, Antonio Margarito. Manny Pacquiao said he didn't want to fight Yuri foreman b/c he was too tall. Doesn't that sound cowardly??

nope, taylor wasnt as fast as pac, plus lou duva is a kid compared to roach (as a tactician not by experience obviously), and pac's punches are stronger than taylor, this fight was at 140, even cotto did not hurt pacquiao..pac is not the same fighter that fought jmm, if jmm and pac fought now, what do ya think will happen?...if pac hits chavez 10x, chavez would be out cold...hell.. if he's hit by pac 5x he'll be out cold... remember, this fight was at 140...

Cotto was shot when he fought Pacman. Cotto, b/c Margarito fight, has NOT been the same fighter. He barely beat Clottey. He was OBVIOUSLY dehydrated and had no business weighing 145lbs.
Chavez beat better opponents than Pacman.
If pac fights JMM now of course he would win. JMM=small WELTERWEIGHT,but BIG NATURAL lightweight.
Don't forget Chavez was a hard puncher too.

cotto was not shot, i agree he wasn't the same fighter psychologically after the margarito fight, but the punching power is still the same, I mentioned cotto because you said he got hurt by jmm and jmm is weaker than chavez...pac punches way harder than chavez, and a lot quicker, taylor and pernell couldn't hurt chavez, so he just kept coming..but pac has the hand speed of taylor, but faster with his feet and punches a lot harder than chavez, and more accurate.. how would chavez win?
