What's with the complaining about spitting out the mouthpiece? It's not like he got away with it. He had a point deducted, which is the appropriate punishment for that rule violation. Had Corrales not knocked out Castillo, that point might have ended up being the difference between winning on points and losing on points. Turns out it was worth the deduction, but it just as easily could have backfired horribly.
Not the first time this sort of thing happened to buy time.
yep one of the best fights ever. Watch rounds 1 thru 9. Both fighters take turns beating the absolute shit out of each other with hardly any holding. Ref did a great job. Gatti vs Ward is awesome too but not as even or as brutal as this.
Plain and simple, the ref did the right thing taking a point away from Chico, but Chico did the right thing by pressing the knockout, he knew that he needed a knockout to win, it was all within in the rules. the ref did a hell of a job in this fight and really earned his pay here. he allowed corrales to continue cause he could see he wasnt too badly hurt, when most would have stopped it. then he could see right away castillo was gone and jumped in.
Boxing is like any sport there are ways to get around the rules thats why the NFL put in a rule about injurie time in the last 2 minutes. Coralles was smart he went down again and got the extra time, had he not got the KO he would have lost on points because of a 10-6 round but he gambled and won. I give him credit for doing it, I mean he did what he had to do and so did the ref, Weeks let them fight the wole time and did a great job. Phenominal fight that will be in the all time great archives.
diego coralles is a great fighter. but i thought castillo was ready to finish him. spitting the mouth piece out, and then having a point deducted, gave corrales great recovery time. anyone who knows anything about boxing knows, that when a man is hurt, every second he gets to recover is to his advantage. castillo showed in the 2nd fight no doubt he is the better fighter out of them too. and i thought castillo would have finished coralles if it wasent for the mouthpiece spitting and extra time.
The ref had to stop it, if Castillo had bean able to go down then recover for a few seconds it would be different, but he was out and unfortunately he was held up by the ropes so the ref had to stop it. Castillos corner did not argue it because they knew it was the right call, it sucks, but Weeks had to step in when he went limp and his hands dropped.
castillo was not robbed cause corrales got a pt deducted that was the risk he took by tryin to recover and lucky him he got the knockout so ithink he was outsmarted nor robbed corrales took a gamble and it paid off with a win

Great fight. But the ref seemed kinda biased in my opinion.
No problem to count out Corrales after the second knockdown - when he got up at 9 and a half of the count. Then the ref is doing the point deduction crap to give Corrales time (wtf?). Finally, Castillo is in trouble but hasn't even touched the ground yet the refs stops the fight.
I think it was a very good fight, but the best ever? No. Best round ever? Again, a very good round indeed, but certainly not the best I have seen...
Ref stops the fight because Castillo isn't punching back. Castillo may not have hit the canvas but he's just a punching bag during the last 30 secs of the fight. Ref did his job.

Awesome fight but i think the ref should have let it go on longer cos Corales had been down twice in that round and Castillo was still on his feet.Bad stoppage in my opinion.
Castillo's defensive posture already gave up before the final devastating series of blows. Before Corrales even landed his last punch, the only thing keeping Castillo up was the ropes behind him. If the ref let it go on any longer, his long term health would have been put in jeopardy. He would have taking at least three more devastating power punches square to the temple and jaw when his jolted brain was already bouncing around his skull.

Weeks reffed it perfectly. First time Corrales spit the mouthpiece out it save him about 7 seconds. Second time is was 14 seconds, and he lost a point which is what Weeks was supposed to do. Castillo, wasnt careful enough trying to finish out Corrales. Weeks stopped the fight at the right time. Castillo was out against the ropes with his hands down, eyes rolling around in his head, and taking heavy shots from a guy with heavy hands. Corrales landed some bombs in the 10th n Weeks was watchin
I felt really bad for JLC in this fight. He was robbed of his victory by all the wasted time between knockdowns. If Weeks would have just forced Diego to put his mouthpiece back in and continue, Castillo would have immediately knocked him down again forcing it to be stopped. Oh well, so goes boxing.

@tjjlm444 you are right they both were champs and they put on a great fight and it was one of the bigges brawls ever but i just did not see the skill level, power, technique in both these fighters to put their fight on the same levle with C-C ... btw.. the claim that "they were both champs" is meaningless in today's waterdown state of boxing. all i look for is skill, power and drama and these two fights simply dont belong in the same sentence on this criterias

the ref did a hell of a job in this fight and really earned his pay here. he allowed corrales to continue cause he could see he wasnt too badly hurt, when most would have stopped it. then he could see right away castillo was gone and jumped in.

Boxing is like any sport there are ways to get around the rules thats why the NFL put in a rule about injurie time in the last 2 minutes. Coralles was smart he went down again and got the extra time, had he not got the KO he would have lost on points because of a 10-6 round but he gambled and won. I give him credit for doing it, I mean he did what he had to do and so did the ref, Weeks let them fight the wole time and did a great job. Phenominal fight that will be in the all time great archives.

diego coralles is a great fighter. but i thought castillo was ready to finish him. spitting the mouth piece out, and then having a point deducted, gave corrales great recovery time. anyone who knows anything about boxing knows, that when a man is hurt, every second he gets to recover is to his advantage. castillo showed in the 2nd fight no doubt he is the better fighter out of them too. and i thought castillo would have finished coralles if it wasent for the mouthpiece spitting and extra time.

The ref had to stop it, if Castillo had bean able to go down then recover for a few seconds it would be different, but he was out and unfortunately he was held up by the ropes so the ref had to stop it. Castillos corner did not argue it because they knew it was the right call, it sucks, but Weeks had to step in when he went limp and his hands dropped.

Great fight. But the ref seemed kinda biased in my opinion.
No problem to count out Corrales after the second knockdown - when he got up at 9 and a half of the count. Then the ref is doing the point deduction crap to give Corrales time (wtf?). Finally, Castillo is in trouble but hasn't even touched the ground yet the refs stops the fight.
I think it was a very good fight, but the best ever? No. Best round ever? Again, a very good round indeed, but certainly not the best I have seen...

Ref stops the fight because Castillo isn't punching back. Castillo may not have hit the canvas but he's just a punching bag during the last 30 secs of the fight. Ref did his job.
one of the best fights in modern boxing and one of the best rounds of all time. reminded me of the hagler hearns 3 rounder... toe-to-toe.....

Awesome fight but i think the ref should have let it go on longer cos Corales had been down twice in that round and Castillo was still on his feet.Bad stoppage in my opinion.

Castillo's defensive posture already gave up before the final devastating series of blows. Before Corrales even landed his last punch, the only thing keeping Castillo up was the ropes behind him. If the ref let it go on any longer, his long term health would have been put in jeopardy. He would have taking at least three more devastating power punches square to the temple and jaw when his jolted brain was already bouncing around his skull.

Weeks reffed it perfectly. First time Corrales spit the mouthpiece out it save him about 7 seconds. Second time is was 14 seconds, and he lost a point which is what Weeks was supposed to do. Castillo, wasnt careful enough trying to finish out Corrales. Weeks stopped the fight at the right time. Castillo was out against the ropes with his hands down, eyes rolling around in his head, and taking heavy shots from a guy with heavy hands. Corrales landed some bombs in the 10th n Weeks was watchin

I felt really bad for JLC in this fight. He was robbed of his victory by all the wasted time between knockdowns. If Weeks would have just forced Diego to put his mouthpiece back in and continue, Castillo would have immediately knocked him down again forcing it to be stopped. Oh well, so goes boxing.
