On modern engines yes but many older types ( Petters are a good example ) and some semi diesels thet were case scavanged for simplicity. Search Youtube here for some of the older Petter Atomics and marine Semis and you can see what I mean
awsome mate, really wish i had time to build one two! really interrseted in diesel bikes. currently ride 96 dr650 petrol.. and love that bike and hope to one day build a diesel version. would your one run on biodiesel/

Not all some are case scavanged. They are rare to find and usualy old low speed.
