the thing is,many of the musicians back then,of all genres were rebellious church-goers.that's why their music was so rich and creamy.waylon, merle, cash, nash, williams, porter, connie smith.all the way to the R & B groups.aretha, temptations, james brown, even elvis...they all sang gospel.it blew the europeans away.american music is gospel based.even the blues.music now is mostly about "me,me,me".
To the wannabes such as Zac Brown, Darius Rucker and the likes. When you have lived the life, had the experiences, paid the dues and above all esle, gotten a voice like the Outlaw, then and only then will you be a contender.
Nice rendition of a great gospel tune, but Why Not?!?! Waylon could stand at my local McDonald's and sing the dollar menu accapella and make it sound like a million bucks, too bad he is no longer with us, I'd pay alot to see him do just that! R.I.P. Waylon you were a hoss!
One of my very favorite songs by one of my very favorite singers. I first heard it in a little country church in Grayson Co. Kentucky, when I was 10 yrs. old in 1950; on a family vacation. I was soon to discover (real) country and bluegrass music, and that discovery (to quote Waylon from another song) has "kept me from going insane."
Thanks Hoss for the beautiful video. If Love could just be like this for everyone, the world would be a great place. Waylon's voice is so thunderous, and I learned alot from him (and we drank some Jack too!) He was my friend for years, and the tears are flowing out of happiness for him and Jessi, and the sadness that I can't have him back in my life. Memories and my music will be the way I keep him in my heart. Thanks Waymore, Love Ya. Kenny Brent

She really was a Good Hearted Woman in love with a good timin' man. She stood by him through some of his darkest hours.
I never noticed it before, but in a couple of those clips, she looks so amazingly like Linda Ronstadt.
