Im not sure about the US but in europe the standard unit for measuring fish is either in pounds or kilograms. The world record is a 99 pound mirror carp (variation of the common carp) from a lake in france. As far as I know carp fishing isnt that popular in the US probably because the word carp is more widely associated with silver and bighead carp from asia, which have invaded american river systems and are outcompeting native sportfish such as bass but these carp are in fact different species

I have never caught a carp. ive hooked a HUGE one but i only had 6 pound test on and i wasnt fishing for carp lol. i had it on for 2 minutes got it close and it had to be 25 to 35 pounds.

@carpfishing1968 Yeah it's tough when they have plenty to feed on. I free line a floating bait in such cases when they all on top and it can be very exciting!!

@carpfishing1968 I use the boilie on a hair rig and mold the pack or method around that. You can use a hair rigged bait as is but the pack or method is an extra attractor to enhance the bite. Hope that helps?

The largest true minnows happen to be the pikeminnows, also known as squawfish. Carp are in their own family, the only close living relatives to common carp are: Crucian Carp Prussian Carp (the ancestor of the goldfish) and the goldfish. So its correct to call them Cyprinids, instead.

odd thing i'm in anderson county - was fishing for smallies manage to catch one 14 inch and my buddy caught a 12 inch - both carp in inlets and mine on a mud flat... no live bait or stinky bait used - one on a berkley black lizard and one on a blue and crome diving rattle bait. I thought both of these were odd catches... any similar expeirences?
