I think that the GC8G and the S204 are turning in their graves... long gone are the days of Subaru WRC team and the days of a proper WRX STI.. since the hatchback model everything went downhill... In every part of the old Impreza's you could see a grain of WRC... but in this the only thing I see is pensioner trying to cheer his life up with a little bit of speed.. this thing should be badged as a Legacy and not an Impreza.. for the sake of those old Impreza's 40+ rally wins
Love this car. Went to look at it today. I had an Outback wagon several years ago and I loved it. I need a small car that gets good gas mileage , can go in snow, and that can accomodate a dog kennel in the back. This seems to be the right car. Am going to do a little more looking but this is at the top of my list right now. Thanks Subaru.

I have the 2012 wagon. I like it. I bought it out of necessity, not because I'm a Subie fan or anything like that. Needed an affordable AWD car and this was it. Car is VERY comfortable and roomy inside. Handles and rides very well for a base model car. Great road trip car. Drawbacks are lack of power, especially in 4th and 5th gear... there is NO power in those gears! Ratio is off or something. Also, it's difficult to shift into 5th. Dealership said it's normal, I don't agree. Stock tires suck.

i would like it if it didn't wear the impreza badge, the impreza is a rally inspired car and should remain one if they want to build a efficient stylish car they should have designed another car! It had a test drive in it. It's looks pretty good in real life, and it's got a lot of positive things about it., especially suspension and fuel efficiency. I wasn't sure about the CVT, but the manual is fine. I think it's the best FWD, but I'm going to test drive the Honda civic next week.
This car looks better (at least not bad at all) in person... I like its functionality (awd, more interior rear seat & cargo space), fuel economy, visibility. I like this in satin white pearl with black interior leather. Good for my young family with a little puppy. It's too bad my wife can't drive manual and doesn't want to learn or I can pick a WRX from the state with the price I pay for this in Canada. Overall, I think it's a good choice as a family while saving more money for STI
So, should I check out a used 08'WRX, or consider a new 2012'impreza? I think I will test-drive the latter regardlessly, but I am curious what other people have to say, since I think I am willingly to make compromises if the impreza delivers enough on the good stuff.

I'm tired of hearing all this "oh this Subaru looks boring, this isn't an Impreza!" Go look at the damn first-generation Impreza (not the WRX/WRX STI, the BASE Impreza). It didn't look so special either, just like this one. Hell, I've even mistaken the first-generation Impreza for Corollas sometimes.
Only the sportier versions get the treatment so you whining b****es need to calm down and wait.
eventhough I love the looks of the 04-06 models and own a 2000 2.5rs, they cant keep making the same looking car...they were the only company to post a profit 3 years in a row, so they are obviously doing alot of things right.
Why don't people like this? I think it looks better than the outgoing model first off, secondly it is lighter and gets better MPGs, while keeping AWD. No one buys the base Impreza for performance so idk why people are complaining about that either.
@terps616 I could NOT agree more! Seriously, the base Impreza was always overkill for the general public (it was the class-leading base-engine, 170HP!). It seemed to be very much like a 2.5RS dumbed down, and now it's a proper economy compact car worthy for the masses while retaining Subaru technology (AWD, brand-new generation FB20 engine), revised suspension (supposedly more sporty while still comfortable), and still manages to lose weight! I just don't understand why nobody can appreciate it.

I'm sorry, but besides being a compact entry into rallying, the Impreza was supposed to be marketed to the masses looking for an AWD compact sedan. Besides, Subaru is simply trying to survive. I own a '09 Lancer, but I respect the Impreza. The thing that always bugged me about Subaru is their AWFUL car designs... looks like they will continue this tradition. It's a shame since the Lancer was also kinda ugly until this new sexy generation, I hoped it would motivate Subaru to do the same. Great mechanics, boring looks.

@bobcar96 I'm not sure myself too. Other than the door mirror, I like the look. IMO, better then last model year. The interior is nice and simple too, but I'll gladly trade that MPG gauge for a temp and fuel gauge.

@ElshamyWalid the lacner uses 7.9/5.8 l/100km the subaru uses 7.5/5.5 l/100km. btw the se-awc actually gets worse numbers than the standard lancer. i did the comparision when both cars had CVT's.
@urmomisfineinbed yeah they are about the same so it would be up to you which you. test drive them and see which is more liveable. the mitsubishi has a better warranty but they may go bankrupt and never honour it. I do find that most subaru's have a better interior finish than mitsubishi's but that depends what level of trim you get. just got test drive em

Proud owner of an 2006 impreza. After 2007 the design took a turn for the worse. Sadly from I can see the best years of the impreza are well in the past
Simply put it, If you know what an Impreza is you will hate this car, if you don't you will like it or not care.
The new Impreza looks very ordinary and bland. If you look at it and a 2012 Toyota Corolla, you would not be able to tell which car has a racing pedigree and a history of being a performance rally car.

If Subaru really want us to go out and buy one of their Impreza's they better go back and start remaking the mighty Subaru Impreza P1.
If not at least go back and remake the RB5 or the 22B.
Subaru's motto should be, making ugly cars since 2008.
They need to drop hatchbacks and make saloons again, and i won't buy one until they do.

The little window next to the side view mirrors are totally cheap. A person could easily break it and reach in and push the unlock button on the door. Security risk I would say, plus it's fugly.

Simply put it, If you know what an Impreza is you will hate this car, if you don't you will like it or not care.
The new Impreza looks very ordinary and bland. If you look at it and a 2012 Toyota Corolla, you would not be able to tell which car has a racing pedigree and a history of being a performance rally car.

I have never been Subaru fan, I'm more into Mitsubishi, but I always wanted Subaru to produce good cars because that is what keeps the competition between Mitsubishi and Subaru... Whenever Mitsubishi produced a good car, Subaru tried to make a better one, and vice versa. This new Impreza looks like some cheap KIA... Bad move Subaru...

The passenger seat on ALL Subaru's need updating. THEY NEED TO BE ADJUSTABLE FOR HEIGHT!!!!!! ( Why is it only available in the Forrester 2012 models?),,,,We chose not to buy a Subaru for this very reason.Passenger seats are horrible for short and tall people alike to ride in. So tiring to keep oneself in the seat when your legs get worn out from holding self in the seat. As they are passengers weeble and wobble all over with the slightest breaking or turning of the vehicle..No comfort in that.

@nopockyforkitteh I agree, but I think this is in response to new fuel economy rules coming in the USA. I dunno, I have a 2.5i 5-speed, and it's no sports car, so why not get better MPGs? I'll just get a WRX for my next car if I decide I want more sport (which I do)
