  • Arif is the best bass player ever!

  • 2:28

tim: hey i should join your headbanging

  • @KoMiKaZe that's all the rocking out they can afford. 95% of the time they got to stay focussed to play the complex shit they came up with lol

  • this song is freakin' awesome... and they're great live...

wanna see somethin' funny?? watch me and my friend playing this song...

    /watch?v=SdvRmjjEZPg

  • can't listen to music without people arguing over classification... nobody sounds like them, so just call them Protest the Hero and enjoy the song.

  • that final scream is so fucking amazing

  • the bass is fucking insane at 2:24

  • not into this vocalist but the actual music is pretty fucking incredible

  • I just came back from the first show of the Snowcore tour...! They were great ! (of course...)

Luke and Rody were near-perfect and Tim even went talking to the crowd at the end ! I bought my tab-book directly from him !

They didnt play an "encore" though...even if everybody was screaming...

  • @Sefremu08 fucking awesome show but very dissapointing no encore :(

  • Moe needs a metronome... you see the bass player go and tell him to slow it down.. he slows down for a little bit then hes off again going double speed..

  • the mtv people filmed this but i was only able to find it on veoh and now its been removed. lame.

  • how come this video wasnt with those other high quality ones from MTV?

  • cause this was filmed by someone in the crowd.

  • i mean like, how come MTV didnt film this one too.

  • Excellent musicians!

  • I really like these guys, like 80's speed metal with an edge and the bassist is insane, but the drummer is a little sloppy live :(

  • haha. are you kidding?

  • /watch?v=PJAZs_7GG0s ,a plus for all metalheads

  • Man. Does anyone know what time signature this is played in?

It's beeb bugging me for months

  • most of it is in 4/4. There's a few bars here and there in 7/8, 15/16, 3/4, 5/4 etc. Really can throw you off.

  • as the other guy said, most is in 4/4, but there are a few exceptions, 2/4, 7/8, and 3/4 pop up in some places, and in the last bar before Tim starts the crazy fast hammer-ons going up the strings is in 9/8.

  • i believe theres also some 15/16 and 10/8 ts in there too-

  • nope, I have a guitar pro tab of the song, only the stuff I said is in there.

  • fool they use a 15/16 a good minute and a half in, they also use 5/4, no 10/8 though, i have guitartux :P

  • This song is fucking badass. Its funny this use to be my least favourite song until i learnt it on guitar it made me appreciate it. I did a cover of this song and i think mine stands out in comparison to the hundreds of others on youtube. It would be sweet if you guys checked it out in my channel and let me know what you think :P

  • this guitarist is incredible extremely underrated

  • @joshkatell the guitarists dont have shit on arif

he writes all the music and lyrics

  • @obeydot Wrong, according to Luke ( who, I think, know better than you who write the music in the band), Arif writes lyrics and his ( great ) bass parts, and that's it.

  • @2moonsrock Luke, Tim and Arif all work on the music together or 'riffage' as arif states...Arif also writes all the lyrics and does the art work for the albums

  • Comment removed

  • @BillyWichers Arif wrote ALL lyrics for Kezia and Fortress, he wrote a few songs lyrics on Scurrilous onlyn please do some research.

  • @joshkatell this WHOLE band is underrated

  • love the bass sweeps during interprets the law as aging with its eye sight failing

  • Nah, this is just a relatively low-quality recording, they're actually really really good live.

  • Arif's guitar is sexy.

  • Ariff = bass

  • What? So a bass guitar isn't a guitar?

Fine, Arif's BASS guitar is sexy.

  • Arif = bass

    not

    Ariff

  • bassgutar:)

  • is there a reason why itLEAKED doesn't have the legit version of this?

  • yea he did have some trouble with the solo, i also dont blame um thou, those leads sure as hell arn't easy!!

  • he fucks up solos quite often, it seems :) i dont blame him! even if he would sing his solos backwards with donald duck´s voice i still would enjoy it.

  • i dont think they fit in any genres. they're too awesome for genres.

  • its mathcore, but has lots more clean vocals than most math bands.

  • its metal end of story.

  • are you fucking deaf? or just stupid?

  • this is metal, you are just dumb.

  • @1223dude1223

    Man, this is not metal.

It's Mathcore, a fusion between Math Rock and Post-Hardcore.

Also, this song, sounds a bit like Technical Death Metal, but, it's not Metal. :)

  • @ddensu blow it out your ass, its metal. why does everyone these days have to catogarize stuff so small. they used to play progressive punk/post hardcore on calculated use and kezia, kezia was obviously alot more metal influanced but fortress is metal. they call themselves metal and if you are wondering, when rody says he hates alot of his fans he's talking about idiots like you.

  • @1223dude1223 You can suck a dick, fanboy.

I'm not a fan of this shit, I hate when faggots like YOU says that this shitty snob band is metal.

METAL, HAHAHA, YOU MUST BE KIDDING!

  • @ddensu elitist asshole i've been listening to metal my whole life, from iron maiden to skid row to slayer to gorguts, i know metal and this is metal. it diffinetly has punk ad hardcore influance but this is metal. and if you want to trash a shitty metalcore band go trash avenged sevenfold or the devil wears prada.

  • @1223dude1223 true as shit dude

  • @1223dude1223 you are being an elitist asshole, asshole.

  • @ddensu asshole yes, elitist no

  • @1223dude1223 They call themselves metal?

They don't know a shit of what they are playing.

  • @ddensu they obviously know what they are playing and i highly HIGHLY doubt you can do better.

  • @ddensu someone got brain damage from their dad fucking their mother when she was pregnant, stop labeling PTH and just fucking listen to the song, christ people like you should be bet to death with their shoes

  • @lordguitarist00 yeah, because this isn't metal.

PTH is all the shit you want, but IS NOT metal

    Also, "christ", HAHAHA, i lol'd.

  • @ddensu What is protest the hero then? You have a serious superiority complex my friend. Tell me hat do you do for a living?

  • @IIThesaviour if you think this is metal, you have a wrong idea about metal.

the metal is extensive, with many subgenres, you can not say that PTH is just metal, because only "metal" does not exist as such.

  • @ddensu oh you're one of the "Everry band must be subgenred!" guys. It's people like you who make musical discussion boring as fuck. So what you want everyone to say they are "metalcore with a hint of progressive rock, mathcore and hardcore punk" or something? Dont be a dick, its much easier to just say "metal" as anyone who isn't a retard trying to appear like they know music does.

  • @IIThesaviour I'm not like that, but in metal some things must be subgenred, because you can't say that Iron Maiden sounds like Necrophagist, yeah, you can generalize and say that's just metal, but PTH doesn't fit in none of those metal generalities.

  • @ddensu Heavy guitars, distortion, sweep picking, screaming etc etc yeah defintly not metal, more resembles hard house trance with those characteristics, your fucking retarded, what genre is it then?

  • @lordguitarist00 "Heavy guitars, distortion, sweep picking, screaming", LOL!

Man, Metal is more than that stereotype.

There are a lot of kinds of metal, and PTH does not fit in none.

Just listen to the vocalist, and you can say that PTH is more influenced by Post-Hardcore, but yeah, the guitarist is more talented than a common post-hxc guitarist, but their musical direction, their melodic riffs, and their prog. structures... this definitely isn't metal, is more like mathcore or post-hxc.

  • omg luke fucked up the solo:):)

  • why do we care about what stupid "sub-genres" to place bands in?

all i know is that PtH is one of the few bands that makes me proud to be canadian.

    =]

  • oh yeah

  • that crowd is pathetic

  • Holy poor rody all the MTV live performances are played way faster then they are supposed too be that is why rody sounds a bit rushed in some parts but Props too Tim, Luke, Arif and Moe for playing faster then it already is :) Amazing job though.

  • Its like the mars volta/ meets hardcore/metal meets insane guitar. This shit blows my mind.

  • i know eh?

  • it's called mathcore

  • no it doesnt. it's called AWESOME

  • For the last fucking time. PtH is NOT mathcore. Try the Dillinger Escape Plan, Converge, Botch. PtH is my favorite band, and I love me some mathcore, but they are NOT the same thing.

  • math core? xDDDDDDd geek metall? xDDD

and that is metalcore! my ex-band play in that style!

  • actually, the band calls themself melodic creative. metalcore=pussys.

  • ever heard of All that remains? pussys ha?

  • dude, all that remains is just a bunch of love songs, so phil is a pussy hahaha. i love that band though, oli is sick guitarist no doubt!

  • If you like this kind of stuff listen to bandCloverfield

    search google! at myspace! ]

  • i've always love 0:57

  • They are incredible guitar players. I would suffocate an infant to be able to play like any of them.

  • tell me about it , there crazy

  • the sound is amazing good for a record from ambient sound so close to the stage.

  • headbanging at 2 30 is just hilarious

  • lol yeah, Tim just walks over, head bangs for like 2 seconds and walks back.

  • hahaha! that was great!

  • YEAH FUCKIN META- alright that's enough for me.

  • that shit would be so hard to nail perfectly all the way through the song but after years of playing it live it would be amazing as fuck

  • just cause your bass instructor beat one of the dudes in gh3 means bullshit

any of the guitarist is way better than your instructor

  • My bass instructor guy beat one of the guitarists in GH3. No lie.

  • just gonna throw this out there, i don't actually think you can classifiy anything in a pth song as a chorus, verse, etc... because everything keeps changing and they almost never repeat anything

  • I feel the same way

  • 3:06 amazing

  • oh shit 0:50 they are getting really badass :D

  • they are really good live

  • dude they write music so difficult they have to learn how to play it. and most of their songs have at least 3 tempo changes. i would die to have them teach me.

  • hmm well that may have been true for their old stuff with writing it before playing, but their new stuff is amazing too, but its actually easier lol

  • no, that was only for kezia-- they wrote music so difficult that they had to learn it and practice it before they actually got it down. but now they've gotten so much better technically that they don't need to do it anymore.

  • true dat. their tempo changes have gotten a lot more complex i think.

  • Nope, its for both. It took luke 4 months too learn how to play wretch live after the songs release, and he still has trouble playing it.

  • Good writing, except for the obnoxious end chorus they put in every song. The picking sounds sloppy on the guitar at 2:37 too. Best song on Fortress though for sure.

  • Yeah, I asked Luke at Warped Tour if what it said on Wikipedia about them taking two years to learn Kezia was true and he laughed. He said obviously they like to challenge themselves and write difficult material, but it never took them two years to learn the material.

  • They are great..surprisingly it doesn't seem like either guitarists are very technically minded...or at least not very theory oriented.

Either way, I think they'd be great guitarists to see live...but not so hot to get lessons from.

  • haha agreed...i watched the bloodmeat instructional video and when luke describes the verse riff he says: "i think this is like, pentatonic or something? i dont really know anything"...or something like that

  • Why are these guys so fucking GOOD!

  • definitely the best song on fortress. does anyone know where the better quality version of this video went!?

  • favorite song from fortress.

  • good quality for a camera

  • damn i dont think protest has ever heard the phrase keep it simple, luke's hands are goin a zillion miles an hour, its unbelievable!!

  • Luke Hoskin...I want him to teach me....

  • what i noticed is that all these live youtube vids i've been seeing of protest the hero, the guys are not as hype as they actually are live. I saw them a couple of weeks ago, one of the best shows of my life, these guys deserve a lot of cred.

  • wtf 2:37-2:55 is sloppy as hell

  • Yeah, Luke messed up a bit there. At least he caught back up quickly though.

  • more like he dragged his heals till the next riff started lol

  • yeah rody even gave him a weird look haha

  • the guitarists from log are no were near as good as luke and tim

  • lmab of god sucks fucking balls

compared to protest the hero they have no skill

roddy is a better singer all together

his screaming and growling is also much better

  • roddy is a lot better, you're right. he's got more of a diverse voice. He could do some of the highest pitch screaming but he could also growl like a fucking beat too.

  • Bullshit=) LoG is an Awsome band! but they are Metal to the masses=P Protest the hero is more of a Progressive Metal band, I agree that PTH is better than LoG, but they are great toox) btw, Mark and Willie are better live guitarists than Luke and Tim...x)

  • cant really compare who is better live. very different style of guiarists.

  • hey but guys, lamb of god still kik ass

  • Randy Blythe is the singer for lamb of God and why would you get him to replace Rody?Randy cant sing and i mean clean singing, not screaming or growling as good as Rody, and even Randy is drunk mosta the time when they perform.so why would they replace him with Randy?

  • y didnt u film arif while hes doing those crazy tapped arpeggios :(

  • 2:30 YOU GOTTA LOVE IT!!

  • Yummy. Arif is a god.

  • I do them all

    Thrice

  • holy holy holy diverrr..

  • damn theyr even better live

  • the guitar player has one strong hand man

  • dude 7 i know! i went to see them with my band after their album dropped fucking amazing. They totaly influnced my band

  • holy shit they are amazing live. they really improved from their past live performances of the old album Kezia.

  • the guitar is a ibanez s5470 prestige in transparent black sunburst.

  • What the hell is MTV Live? Like a tv program, or a concert...what?

  • a TV program that, among other things, has short concerts

  • can anyone tell me what that brown guitar is?

  • It's an Ibanez, I don't know the exact model. To see it clearer find the Protest the Hero Bloodmeat instructional video where Luke and Tim teach it. Then you can see the guitar way better.

  • protest the hero!!!!!

  • PTH are fuuucking amazing. this performance is awesome, but i swear you can only hear one guitar the whole time, like at 3:10 its pretty obvious. thats just the recording tho, wish id been there

  • That was a wickedd good video for doing it yourself Certainly best Ive seen of them live :DDD

    btw PTH rules :)

  • mmm, that's some fucking good music, isn't it?

  • fuck, it's awesome

  • Did they play an entire set?

  • LOL @ 2:28

"hey, uh you mind if i join you?"

"naw, go ahead man! actually, let's syncronize!"

    XD

    PTH is great

  • um your a fag

  • hey, your mom never loved you!

    :O

  • Nickolodeon's color commentary provided by this guy

  • hmmm....

guitar riffs at the end aren't what i pictured PTH cranking out live... oh well, it still rules that they wrote shit like that anyway.

  • I saw them yesterday and they melted my face off with their greatness!

  • i love this song, band, and new album.

i really want to see them play bone marrow live.

  • oh yea, second fave song from fortress, right behind bloodmeat

  • I freakin love them!

  • lead singer looks bored...

  • oh man! i was hoping that they played a few other songs from Fortress on MTV live that i could see on here. fuckin' sweet song. rody sounds very good.

  • so sit across the table feed me some lies!

  • Is that what he says? I've been trying to figure that out. Thanks. :)

  • luke's guitar is the s5470 prestige

  • how can u get a video to stand still during protest??? especially in the front... there should be moshpits everywhere, that croud is gay

  • I agree, every live-video I've seen with PTH the crowd has been like fucking zombies.

  • what do u think its on mtv

  • When you see Protest live as a musician, you don't move around alot because you're so much in awe. Those guys are amazing.

  • yeah... that's what i began to think, lol

  • plus, its really hard to headbang to weird time signatures

  • hah, true dat, just say ur doing a polyrhythm with ur head.

  • That happened to me! D=

I just had to watch them play. It was so amazing.

  • i just saw them on friday, and the WHOLE FLOOR was a giant mosh pit. YOu can't stand still to these
