With the Microchip they can say, "Oh, look, Lion A has been sick 4 times this year, let's take a closer look." and track growth weights and patterns. @MrLeoStang White Lions in the wild don't live long. In fact white cubs very seldom make it to adulthood. The white coloration is a major disadvantage for everything survival related. To survive they needs to be raised in captivity, but hopefully in an awesome outdoor situation like these.

They're keeping them protected (as a family, no less) in order to protect them from the hunters that only kill for THEIR own amusement. I see nothing wrong with what they're doing, they're treating the cubs and the mother with respect and keeping them safe. If they weren't, the mother would be furiously clawing at the cage whenever a camera is around them.
