The best ground in football history. I would go back in a heartbeat. Hate this all seater ground. You end up being surrounded by the tartan blanket brigade even in the kop. That was a proper ground for the proper fans who didn't give a toss about the facilities. You go to watch YOUR team, not review the toilet facilities.
@spire1997 Well that's the problem with modern staudiums being built for average sized clubs, they tend to be quite flatpack and dull with little character and no history at all. Hvaing said that they accomodate more people and provide better facilities, but yeh i agree the die hard fans would much rather watch their team in a ground that has some significance to them and hsitroy behind it so i see your point
i dont think we would have beaten these teams without the kop. Alright the kops "support" hasn't been the best over the last season but it was like the 12th and 13th men on these nights.
Lets be right the new ground is generic and boring, nearly exactly the same as chesters and shrewsburys. All seater grounds kill the atmopshere and the experience. At the end of the day its just a place to watch our home team, people have some kind of delusion that we will be in the prem in 5 years.
I am under no delusions about us being in the Prem in 5 years. I'd be happy just being back in league 1. But to say you don't want the club you love to have a new home and a secure future is ridiculous. How can a true Spireite say that? I think you're in a distinct minority when it comes to your views on the new ground. Even though I'll miss the rec dearly, I know in my head that the move is the best thing for the club as a whole.
How is £4million in debt securing our future? I dont think i am in the minority, i would say ime in the majority or its pretty even. When i say to people that i dont want to move they always say a lot of people say that.
The move wouldn't bother me so much if they had incorporated a terrace as was originally planned. People also think attendances will increase, how? People come to watch the football, and the club they love, not to worry about how comfy the seats are or how soft the bog roll is.
The club is probably going to have some investment coming into the club, and the interested parties would finance the stadium. This surely wouldn't constitute debt?
However, I do agree with you about the lack of a terrace and increased attendance. I think maybe the attendance might creep up marginally. But I only expect it to increase up to about 5000 which for a club of Chesterfield's size is quite good. I understand your concerns but I still think you're being a tad pessimistic.
Also, I think comparing the new ground to Chester's is a bit below the belt. Theirs was built in the early 90s and looks dated already. Shrewsbury's is comparable but I understand it's some way from the town centre and they run shuttle buses and park-and-ride schemes, whereas Chesterfield's would only be 1 mile from the rec and would be very accessible on existing public transport and by foot
I really don't think the club can progress at all without moving. Redeveloping saltergate is unfeasable
The investment is probable although i dont see why the club is dragging their feet over the identity of them. The attendance may be slightly higher for the first 6 months or so but the novelty will soon wear off, its the football they come to watch after all.
I am a traditionalist, i love the old school atmosphere at Saltergate. I hate the way football is turning into a corporate game and gradually detaching itself from the fans. Wish we could go back 20 years, the game was in better condition.
My Dad first took me when i was just 3. I can remember sitting in what is now the family stand looking down on the kop, i thought it looked awesome then. Very intimidating to a little kid. Ive never even flirted with another club, home team should be your only team. Are you really in Korea?
Yes, I really am in Korea. I've lived here for 4 years. I was never a season ticket holder but I went to about 90% of home games between 94-2000. I still always buy the new shirts and I'm a member of spireites world. So I still support the club in whatever way I can. Love the club, hate the town. That's why I left.
Whats up with the town? Its intrinsic but i love it. I thought the same as you so i moved away for three years but i soon missed it. Inbred and full of chavs and scrubbers but i wouldnt have it any other way.
If I had a pound for every pixel in this video, I would have a pound.
