I am very confused about what the Americans make of the politics of this show. It is set during the British Miners Strike and is very much a social commentary. It also has a socialist message which I know is a very dirty word in the US. Do you just ignore that aspect which I find amazing as its so integral to the story? Or is it because its on in New York where people are more broad minded? I'm not being critical, I am just curious.
@olesammie I think some people just ignore it and others don't agree with it, but think it's a great story. I know my dad doesn't agree with the socialist aspect but really liked the movie anyway. Also, people come from all over the place to see Broadway, so it's not just that it's in NYC. There are plenty of narrow-minded people in New York, too. The show also puts it in a context where it's very hard to go against the miners and Billy's story is so full of humor that people see beyond it.
I seen it back in Feb 09.....it was AMAZING...I will never forget just how WONDERFUL it was...I walked out of the theater.....Telling myself....i have to see this again....and i am on Oct 03.09...and i am just as excited as i was the first time i saw it. Its just one of those thing you have to see it for yourself to know just how AMAZING it actually is.
With skateboarding, acting, singing and dancing for me, they just made it harder for me to choose what I what to do. I want to do Broadway but I also want to skateboard... What should I do??
You've done Broadway? And now, I've let down skateboarding now... It got boring. But My friend, Brooks Ashmanskas (Who is in Julie&Julia) Is on Broadway. I worked with him this summer. =D
In the musical are there three Billy's on the same day in the musical. Like they're playing Billy together or is it just for this performance. That they're normaly alone.
i think its just in this performance that all three are on the stage. i believe that they alternate the boys each performance during the week so they dont do the performances two days in a row
of course thats what they do, there are child labour laws, so one kid can't be one part on the stage, it has to alternate so that the child isnt taken advantage of
Yes already thought it would be like that. But I thought maybe because it's such a dificult role to play with all that dancing and singing. But when I looked further on youtube I found videos with the boys alone so I kind of already had my answer.
YAY! BILLY ELLIOT RECEIVES 15 TONY NOMINATIONS!!! I was fortunate enough 2 c this incredible show on B-way, and I have 2 say it's one of the best musicals to come to the Great White Way in years. A friend of mine has invited us to go 2 the Tony's w/ her, and I predict that the Best Actor in a Musical Award will go 2 the three Billy's-- there just isn't ne other leading actor in musicals at the moment that bests David, Kiril, and Trent's amazing triple threat performance...
maybe they are trying to prove you dont have to be extremely feminie (or sissy's to some) thats stereotype to boy's in ballet i like them just the way they are in from the uk and seen liam mower and the others they all mix the match aspect you pointed out ith ballet i also think thats whats made the show so sucessful with the other dance elements in there aswell it apeals to a bigger audiance
just saw thsi yesterday, AMAZING MUSICAL! one of broadway's best.
Tommy Bachelor was the Billy that night, and being a dancer myself, I was stunned at his and the casts ability. the production was beautiful, and elton johns score was breathtaking.
I saw this play two months ago in London. It was one of the most amazing theatrical experiences I've ever had. The movie is good but the musical is excellent. My only gripe was that Billy's deceased mother was a very underdeveloped character and her relationship with Billy seemed a bit shallow. Oh well, it's a musical! The singing and dancing were beyond belief.
we're going to see it in london soon, and i live pretty near to Easington where billy elliot is set. i saw this thing on the TV and this american lass said that she didnt know that there were different english accents til she saw it! =)
i saw this in november, with trent as billy. greg jbara, who plays the dad, met us afterwards and took us on a tour of the stage and backstage. best night of my life, hands down.
There are 3 boys as the role is quite demanding dance and singing plus child labor laws too. Get the movie that the musical's based on by the same title. It's a good movie.
wow them three are amazing but liam mower (from original london cast) will always be my fav, but they are really good I really wanna see the broadway production sooo bad now!! im seein it in the westend again soon cant waittt :D but yeahh them three billys each one is amazing real talented!!
I do not know if you are a part of the cast or activily involved with the broadway show, But I have been following it a long time ever since it hit the west end and I am looking foward to seeing it, and since I will be givien a chance to vote on it as a drama league Member it makes it even more special. Good luck to you and the cast, hopefully it weill get tonys Next June
w00t!!! great vid!!! I'd seen the main performance clip online but thanks for putting together such a great video! I look forward to seeing many more such videos in the coming months and yes years haha! woo hoo! Billy Elliot has arrived on Broadway!!!!!! --Sean =)

I'm disappointed at how macho these boys try to come across. They should watch the three Billys from the
West End. They're still very good however.
