I had the pleasure to 'discover' Di Wu during a concert in Asheville, NC on February 27, 2010 and was simply impressed by her performance. Unbelievable how she was able to combine elegance, expression and passion in her way of playing the piano. It was an unforgettable moment of joy for eyes and ears.
I lived around the corner from Curtis Music Institute while Di was there... She was my favorite performer for three reasons.. In no particular order...
She`s an Amazing talent, obviously!
She played the entire Rapsody in Blus by Gershiwn (a popular version of which was recorded by her teahcer at Cutris... but I forget his name. It was the version used in Woody Allen`s Manhattan
And..
Her beauty is only out-shined by her kindness and class.
And to think, I never had to pay a dime!! all free!
@Phillyprnc : you thinkink about Gary Graffman? yes she is extrememly nice and a fun friend. Her cliburn performances were fantastic. they may be on youtube. take care
I live in California, and I just got home from seeing this woman play live, not 10 feet from me... It was a spiritual experience... It is what humanity is capable of, when we are not out trying to steal, hurt, and kill ~ a beautiful human being, and beautiful art...!!!!

Right up there with Jesus' Sermon On The Mount. She plays the piano, not a spiritual or moral deliverer of truth. She is no messenger or morality. She might be a Communist from China moron! They are always the 'nice' ones. Idiot. Your freedom required killing stupid.
Her Brahms Variations (excessively difficult if you've ever tried to play it!), her Liszt B Minor Sonata (so expressive!!!) and her knock-down-dead Prokofiev 7th Finale were some of the very best playing i have ever heard. So many talented artists coming out of the Orient!
We seem to be watching the same videos, as I see your (Prokofiev inspired?) username everywhere ... I'm surprised that another contributor to this forum has described Di Wu as 'another typewriter off the conveyor belt'. Yes, there are a lot of 'typewriters' about, but even with the short extracts offered here it's obvious that Di Wu is a thoughtful player who carefully considers every phrase. And that's genuine technical assurance in the Prokofiev, not just empty virtuoso display.
I find the last piece most impressively played. It happens to be one of my favorite piano pieces, and I'm working on it myself at the moment, so I know how difficult those leaps and that 7/8 meter is! The coda gives me chills!!!:)
IT IS A THEME BY PAGANINI AND BRAHMS COMPOSED TWO SETS OF VARIATIONS ON THEM....paganini was a violinist only....google IMSLP and look up composer name search and look up brahms and paganini and brahms it will be the variations on paganini (book i) and with paganini it will b op.1 caprices (p42)
It is almost too perfect. I don't like it because it is cold. It is not very musical. It is perfect techniqually, but what does that matter when there is no emotion involved. She plays these pieces no different than a machine would. It is taking masterpieces and making them boring.
because it is extremely hard to play difficult music sitting perfectly straight w/ your shoulders back and not moving an inch. you need body weight, and moving can help w/ dynamics, getting into the mood of the piece, and about a million other things.
wow! this young lady is fabulous! She was accepted to the Curtis Institute of Music (arguably the hardest college in the world to be accepted to), was accepted at Julliard on a full scholarship, has won numerous competitions, preformed at Carnegie Hall three times, and has preformed with orchestras all over the world!... not to mention her PLAYING lol
well speed isn't everything . Her Brahms -Paganini goes with a milliion others but her tempi is so fast and musical I too wonder why she didn't get into LEEDS .
I got to meet her, She's amazingly sweet! Didn't know of her talent...It's amazing!

I don't like the way she's performing this song. It freaks me out. I suggest she shouldn't wear dresses.

How can you say that? Maybe she just doesn't express her emotions the way you do. I didn't find those pieces boring.

Why do most pianists have such bad posture?

they dont have bad posture they are just using a lot of armweight....hard to explain
