I used to be so anti-marijuana, it's really not even funny. However, last semester I was told to do a formal paper on the topic, and ever since, I've been in support of it's legalization - not only for it's insane amount of industrial purposes, but as a safe recreational activity as well.

This was the 1st coffeshop I steped into when I went to Amsterdam back in 99'. I bought a 15 Gilder (now its the euro) bag of Jack Herer knowing at the time that J.H and any haze strain was the best at that time.I rember a d.j spinning in the corner as i twisted one and still could not belive where I was and what i was going to be doing 4 the next 14days!!

I looked at a few Harvard studies, and well over half of their sources are old, and even more have "ANTIDRUG" in the url, meaning bias.
Also, they always say that while some suggest the causes are marijuana, NOBODY has been able to prove, after knowing about the drug for thousands of years, that marijuana itself influences that.

id say thats not completely true, the deaths from alcohol are mostly drunk driving cases. weed impares your judgement too- its been proven, im sure there have been a lot of car accidents involving drivers smoking weed. there havent been many studys on the long term effects of weed on the body, im sure it does cause lung damage. obviously not at the same level as tobacco, but notable effects im sure- so to say its safe because there havent been many studys isnt fair. im for legalizing it though

I know you're for legalizing it, so that's good, but it helps to do your own research sometimes.
Any fatal car accidents where weed was involved did not involve just weed, and the numbers were no more than sober driving accidents.
You'd think that it would cause lung damage, but despite the plant being smoke for thousands of years, nothing has been proven - no notable effects. A lot of research actually shows a decent amount of cancer-blocking or cancer-reversing abilities.

Actually, being paranoid while still being aware of your surroundings (which occurs while driving high) causes you to drive slower, and pay more attention to the aspects of driving. You're focused on your surroundings much more while driving high. I've seen all your "facts" before - on above the influence and simply outdated studies.
Facts and stats can be twisted the wrong way, and that's what your sources have done.

I'm not condoning using it on the roads - I'm saying it's safer than everyone makes it out to be. Driving under the influence isn't the smartest, but when studies are showing that those reaction times and such are often bettered after marijuana, I think it calls for more research.
I've looked into marijuana a LOT-both sides of the argument.
In the end, though, I'm arguing for marijuana in general, not just on the roads. No links can be found between marijuana and health risks. It's that simple.

there was even one here when i was in highschool 3 ppl i went to school with killed in one wreck, driver survived- but ended up in jail. reguardless of if people tend to drive slower, it still reduces your reaction times. accidents dont happen when everythings going right. accidents happen when something out of the ordinary happens. well with pot u have less time to act on that.

I understand that man, and I can appreciate your concern, but how many of those had something other than marijuana in their systems - because marijuana is testable from anywhere between 5 days and a month, depending on frequency of smoking. Also, were those accidents their fault?
As a childish counterpoint, how many sober people get into fatal car wrecks - should we ban sobriety?

maybe thats because theres no means for roadside testing at this point... if the person doesnt smell like pot the officer has no reason to suspect u of being high. that doesnt mean the person isnt. and when u say there hasnt been one accident thats actually false. look them up yourself, they are there. ur just not willing to see them

I used to be so anti-marijuana, it's really not even funny. However, last semester I was told to do a formal paper on the topic, and ever since, I've been in support of it's legalization - not only for it's insane amount of industrial purposes, but as a safe recreational activity as well.

there needs to be more research done on the stats, and there needs to be a roadside way of accurately testing the levels in the body. right now there seems to be a stigma attached to researching pot.even talking about it isnt something any politician wants to touch.i think all drugs should be legalized, and kept illegal for use with driving, even alcohol should be banned at any level. right now people drink a couple beers n theres this guessing game of if ur ok to drive or not. very hit n miss

I'll agree with that.
I'm iffy about legalizing all drugs, but when I think about how regulation keeps it out of drug dealers hands, the profits and whatnot can go towards giving people actual truths about the drugs and maybe pay for rehab for drugs that actually cause damage, and even then, there will still be profit.
I also agree on the no tolerance for driving with alcohol, as well. Not only does the drunken state rely on poisoning yourself, I also think that alcohol is the gateway drug.

There have been MANY studies involving marijuana, and all of them prove either its harmlessness or helpfulness. The government completely ignores those or twists the facts, but you can see them all over the internet with credible sources.
Some testing has been done on driving while high, and many people performed better while high while the rest performed basically the same. Weed causes slight paranoia, and since you recognize that you're high, you focus on things around you (driving) better.

MJ is only a gateway drug because it's illegal. Studies (yes, recent studies from universities and Psych associations) have shown that no causation exists on MJ being a gateway drug.
If MJ were legal, people wouldn't have to go through a dealer, who probably sells more than MJ. They could go into a store, show their ID, but what they want, and not be asked if they want to try something harder. With it being regulated, it will be tougher for younger people to get their hands on it.

If one decides to smoke marijuana as opposed to many other alternatives, and it does deposit that amount of tar, marijuana smokers don't get addicted, meaning not smoking as often or as much. You smoke to get high, and then stop. It's odd that the risk of heart attack is higher, yet NO ONE HAS HAD A HEART ATTACK FROM IT. Those looks like Above the Influence stats, which have been twisted.
