@Rivingtonfilm They're talking about the tv show that used to air on G4TV. It was a show called "Portal" and it has a huge cult following so this is why you're getting some heat. Obviously this video comes up as a result when they're looking for G4's tv show.
I'd be interested in doing a joint project with you guys. I've got loads of ideas. I've been working with The Animation Empire and I reckon we could work on something. Check my stuff out and let me know if you'd be interested.
Like everyone else mentioned, the audio was the weakest part. You got to make sure that the loudness is constant. The songs were great tho.
The scene I liked most was the one where both of you are sitting on grassfield and talking. The eiditing/camera angles and acting was the best there. Overall you guys look cool together. I could imagine both of you acting in some feature film when you guys grow up.
The acting is a little wooden sometimes but not bad for an amature film. The effects are fine, great even, and they work well with the film. The video is slightly fuzzy but I hold that down to Youtube which tends to crush the quality.
Apologies if my criticism seems insulting, I just wanted to provide feedback on what i thought about the film the parts I felt needed improving.
The advertising: It's a new and an interesting idea, as though we are watching a show on real TV. Generally though I don't like it - it distracts from watching the show itself and is inconvenient for a Youtube video. If your looking to advertise in a show at least provide a 3-5 second screen between the show and adverts like real TV channels do. A screen with your logo on and a box containing the explosion effect with the title "Portal" would be more than sufficient, and actually look good.
Oh it's not their inclusion which concerns me, I actually think its a pretty unique and interesting idea. I do feel it would be a good idea making it clearer what parts are the film and what is advertisement though, that's why I suggested the idea of a screen between the two.
OK constructive criticism: The speech is FAR to quiet and the music is FAR to loud - you definitely need to balance those two things out better. Lets hear every word the characters say at a comfortable level and not have music suddenly come in and blast our ears off by being much louder than everything else. Fade it in if you must and alter the volume level of the music so it adds nice backing ambiance rather than feeling pasted over the film for the sake of it.
Very solid, entertaining beginning! I think your cinematography is very inventive and you've definitely put some thought in to the placement of the camera. The only problem I noticed was the sound - I found it a bit difficult to hear in some places, most notably the beach scene. I think the acting is fine!
I like your VFX; especially the smoke on the beach; I think it blends in well with the environment.
Very solid start, I'm really looking forward to part two! I gave it five stars.
i thought this was the movie of a game :(
