What a fascinating and compelling tragic story. English through and through, nonetheless forced into a German dukedom, and, by his rearing, placed into the horrible position of having to back Germany in WWI - ugh. You can see it all unfolding through this, and it's wrenching. Would like to know more about him, what he was REALLY like. Can anyone recommend further reading? I shudder at his fate - Nazi collaborator, when juxtaposed with his sister's life.

In 1936- English Gov. appeased Hitler & self-disarmed. Churchill said Hitler would attack so was called a War Monger. A hopeless situation for a disarmed England!  Did E-VIII abdicate, fake a roll to position himself to mitigate harsh subjugation of England in future? In 1940, did his words & dangerous wandering from Paris to Provence to Portugal, offer himself as “bait”, hoping to delay Hitler’s invasion past summer & radar setup?- Hitler did delay. -Did Edward’s desperate acts save Britain?
