  • Who is he giving the bird to at 42secs

  • He's got WAY better in him. However, he is a million times BETTER than that lame asswipe Kieth Moon.

  • Still a excellant drummer. First time I heard the simple Minds tune "Don`t you forget about me" the John Bonham influence was obvious.

  • @DoubleVisionandco

Listen to up on the catwalk and ghostdancing.. live versions so to say :)

  • Okay this is a first impression: He seems like all other average drummers, he don't seem to have his own unique style like just all fast rolls down the toms thats it. there is nothing significant. Don't hate people, free speech..

  • @OtherRandomThings lol what an ignorant,

listen to any of Simple Minds SONG , you will hear Mels unique STYLE , lol

  • @daonpa maybe it's just that i'm not in to him. meh.

  • @daonpa

Any of simple minds from 84 till 91 and 2005 till now :)

  • @OtherRandomThings Wow. You've listened to all of one song, a song that has him sticking to the style in which the original drummer played it.

  • You Are The Best Drummer Of The World ! :D

    Amazing Video.

  • Mel has got to be one of the most underrated drummers alive today.

  • again: one of the very best drummers in the World !!!

    Correct me if I`m wrong...

  • kikken

  • what is he up to now? the best thing that i remember about the song "don't you forget about me" is the drum riffs. his drum playing really stands out. very unique a distinct beat that this man produces. very, very, underrated drummer.

  • The best drummer in the world!

  • @621Kershaw I think it's longer than that.. I saw him do a drum clinic with Simon Phillips in 1983, so he was fairly well established by then.

  • His cymbals sound like dustbin lids.......

  • @Jez2008UK or could it be the vid cam mic dumass???????

  • @Shom909

Hey Dumbass, it's spelt with a 'b' in it, Dumbass......

  • @Jez2008UK o yes ty but you are still a dumbass

  • @Shom909

    You're an ignorant cretin on two levels;

    1) to *me* they sound like dustbin lids. To you, a brown-noser, you only want +ve comment. Sorry, but they're Ufip cymbals and the last time I checked, Ufip are one of the lesser expensive brands of cymbals - so maybe I'm right to think they sound cheap because they are......

    2) My opinion didn't require you to name call. All that did was give you the opportunity to a) look rude and b) look stupid because you don't know how to write.

  • @Jez2008UK brown-noser how? and the sound was fine were i was ( at the event) So i missed a letter big deal, get over yourself pal.

  • @Shom909

    "Get over yourself" ??

I think you're the one who needs to 'get over yourself' !

I comment on the cymbals sounding like dustbin lids (which to me they do) and rather than say something civil like "Oh really ?? I was there and believe me, it sounded really great", you call me a name !

I saw Mel at a clinic in Croydon Fairfield hall with Billy Cobham in 1988 - I liked his powerful attack and playing back then. Here, I have a different opinion, but I wouldn't want to start a war !!!

  • @Jez2008UK well we agree on on thing his power and attack sorry for the insult.

  • @Shom909

No worries Dude, all drummers are great, and I'm sure you're right about the recording mic since I'd like to think Mel wouldn't accept anything less...

Check this out. And this is by no means a contest, but I love this guy's total professional approach to his craft.......

    PqxiWOxwuw (type in YouTube search)

    Enjoy !

  • @Jez2008UK Very nice ty for that

  • @621Kershaw awesome! i wish i could say the same haha

  • for anyone who doesn't know, this guy played in a band called "Samson" back in 1981 for a short period of time. His bandmates were Paul Samson, Chris Aylmer, and Bruce Dickinson

  • Mel is King.

  • I'm Breathless ! <3

  • Mel gaynor, my uncle's brother :P ha to all the peeps

  • what's the name of the tune?

Did they uset it in CSI?

    :)

  • Mel Gaynor is my uncles brother, ive met him tonnes of times.

  • @M3TALCM - not to be a smartass, but if he's your Uncle's brother, wouldn't he also be your uncle as well?

  • @M3TALCM you're lucky . he seems like a real cool guy.

  • Mel's the man! Seen him more than 20yrs in Edinburgh when he was with Pearl and was blown away. I know he's a big hitter but it's a bit alarming how much his kit is bouncing around. It looks about ready to collapse!

  • absolutely cracking effort !!! this is a fantastic performance, remember seeing him play at cardiff arms park many years ago and was bloody awesome then as well..if you ever get a chance to see him don't miss it...

    Drumming LEGEND.

    Period!! Nuff said....

  • he doesnt get anywere near enough recognition as he should, my dad is a simple minds fan and through him i hav developed a huge appreciation for this guy
