  • My best friend and I used to cherish this song back in the day. Ahhh, such memories.

  • My fave rush song.

  • i cant count how many times ive watched 3:28 as a drummer...he fricken nails it just like the album (not that he doesnt nail EVERYTHING lol)

  • Geddy lee's bass is bad fuckin ass

  • Why not the whole song?

  • @CygnusTheIronDream this was part of a melody, By-Tor, In the End, In the Mood and the Grand Finale (2112).

  • 3.30 Unbelievable drumming

  • Bytor the abominable snowmans best friend

  • me toooooo, fuckin awsome piece of gear !!!

  • Comment removed

  • i've always wanted one of those black Rickys because of Geddy.

  • 240p we meet again

  • im 12 now and as everyones listing to rap i'm trying to spread this kind of stuff around. so its very rarley i even see kids who know who rush is but best band ever

  • @ultimatestudios45 Respect little dude, hope you stick with it, I´m mid 50s and still rockin - go for it....

  • Great Video

  • I just realized I saw them do this live the same year this was filmed. RUSH forever.

  • They get my vote for the RnR Hall of Fame!

  • "Each of us in some little way, is imperfect and incomplete".

    So they don't like Rush

  • Caress of Steel was a very under-appreciated album...

  • @FlyByNight1975 Definately...Caress of Steel is one of Rush's greatest ever, I don't give a crap what the critics ever said about it. I bought it in the late eighties when I was 13 and wanted to kick myself for waiting as long as I did to buy it when I first heard it. I liked it more than moving pictures even and still do!?

  • where do you find this video? i love rush

  • @TheMikeysteve: It's from the official "Exit...Stage Left" DVD. If you don't have it, you need to get it NOW! It's one of the best live albums of all time (right up there with "The Song Remains the Same" by Zepp, "Made in Japan" by Deep Purple, and "All the World's a Stage" also by Rush).

  • @RogueReplicant thanks, do you know where I could get it?

  • @RogueReplicant: You can buy it anywhere: at Amazon or at your local CD shop. Enjoy!

  • HAPPY 58TH BIRTHDAY TO ALEX!!! :D

  • @Navarinomoon I think they need to stop having birthdays now! LOL

  • RUSH RULES!

  • I agree, infidels can't hang with Rush's power!

  • Kick Ass Song !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • yeah know what you mean bands now are dogplop

you cant really do ant better than this great musicians

    andy

  • just heard of the group.......and liking it!!!! thank you for posting

  • cool song, thanks for sharing this!

  • Alex coaxing everything from that Gibson, Geddy putting all great Rickenbacker players (Chris Squire) to shame. And Neil, back when he had my favorite drum sound, doing his "Professor" thing.

  • @KEVSKI1 Agreed. I love Rush from any day/any time/any place...but this has to be my favorite era of theirs.

  • I used to write by By-Tor on my school desk..

  • @BOKNOWSCOMPUTERS Geddy isn't dead

  • cavern link

    watch?v=poPCStBHfmI

  • it's funny...Rush was always awesome. just awesome. but now, listening to 'em, with music as shitty as it is...

    they just seen unreal. lol.

  • People who don't like Rush are stupid

  • can someone tell me what that "growling" is when Alex solos

  • @Rushguitarist1 i think it is just a programed sample. something that is either being controlled by one of the synth mods or perhaps by their sound guy. they used samples of pre recorded sounds from time to time. and if you listen to the studio version, those sounds are on that song. NOW the cool thing is... yeah... how would you recreate those sounds live. i would say nowadays, an expression ped, with an octave effect mixed with delay. ive done it with a line 6 m9.

  • @Rushguitarist1 - or.... if say YOU wanted to recreate it with out pedals... you could pre record your voice just making noises and pitch shift it octaves lower. see the song "oh yeah" by yello... as an example...

and maybe all of what i am saying is of absolutely zero help to you... and if so-

    sorry then.

    Ha~

  • @FLIPSCOVERSTUFF I just wanted to know what they did. It's here barely at like 1:28 during Geddy's little jam

  • @Rushguitarist1 yeah... i know , i gotcha. but im not absolutely certain What they did there?, but it is the same sound that is used on the studio recording they did for this song. so how they re-produced it for this live bit.. im not certain- which is why i said it could be a sample or something that their sound guy triggered for them, or something else perhaps- but it is thee EXACT sound that they recorded the song with. and i was just giving you ideas how to recreate it yourself if interested

  • @Rushguitarist1 and actually you hear it from the time you mentioned up through the end of alex' echoed solo- its the sound of either by-tor or the snowdog.

  • @FLIPSCOVERSTUFF do you know how they do it? especially live

  • I love it when Alex geeks out on stage!

  • I love how everyone took the time to reply how upset they were at the guy trolling who's account name is actually "MyAccount4Trolling".

  • Geddy. Frickin'. Lee.

  • Thanks for the nice upload!

  • just saw them twice this year, freakin amazing!!! this vid has an awesome jam ish i was at this show.

  • I will name any dogs I get By-Tor and The Snow Dog.

  • @MyAccount4TrollingU We know you are trolling.

  • @MyAccount4TrollingU Then why are you on their videos?

  • My fave rush song, i would pay good money to listen to them playing it live.

  • farewell to kings was so much better than moving pictures

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE it

  • RUSH eternamente!

  • GREATEST ART.

  • Where's the ending???

  • GEDDY RIPS \m/

  • Cocaine, LSD, Heroin don't get you as high as listening to Alex Lifeson on guitar

  • That Rickenbacker bass was such a huge part of their sound... I wish Geddy would go back to using it again!

  • @pipermacbean nah he needs to stick with the jazz. the rick has no balls at all

  • @kaih8941 I'm going to have to STRONGLY disagree with you there....

  • @kylethetoybox geddy doesnt

  • @kaih8941 I'm referring to the part where you said, "The Rick has no balls at all". Ricks have plenty of balls, I will take a Rick over a Jazz Bass any day of the week. I mean come on, when's the last time you listened to Hemispheres? I'm not saying I don't like the jazz bass, it would be weird to hear the new stuff played on anything else, but when it comes down to playing their really old stuff (pre 80's and some stuff from the 80's) it just sounds weird to hear it played on his jazz bass.

  • That Rickenbacker bass was such a huge part of their sound... I wish Geddy would go back to using it again!

  • That Rickenbacker bass was such a huge element in their music... I wish Geddy would go back to that sound.

  • Rush are still proving to be one of the best three-piece outfits out there especially in the live arena.

They are still plying their trade with grace and a smile which is really good to see.

They have never had any "dillusions of grandeur" or "visions of splendor" as Neil would say. (Cinderella Man)

  • is he using a fretless bass?

  • @crazypeanut123 Correct me if I'm wrong but...Slightly over-driven Ric' ( think it was one with stereo outputs but I might be thinking of Criss Squire from Yes... so don't quote me...)bass added to the way Geddy uses his index fingernail to alternate pick the strings ("slapping without slapping"). Not a fretless.

  • I love alex's jump dance jig...uh..thing

  • You can count the smart bands on one hand today. These guys made it look so easy!!!

  • slap dat bass geddy!!!

  • Their best live song,pieriod

  • Just plain F--king Bad ass!

  • Rush's live animations have come a long way from what I'm seeing here.

  • 0:26-0:28 - have fun clicking the crap out of it :)

  • I like the All The World's A Stage version better!

  • @stratovani They like the All the World's a Stage audience better than you, so there you go.

  • FANTASTIC!!!! What a song!!!

    Rush Rulez!!!

  • Geddy - Slappin' Da Bass!!

  • You know how, when you haven't seen your really old friends for a long time, and you finally get together with them, and it's just so natural and inspiring ... that's Rush doin' By-tor in this video. They just cut loose and let it all hang out and it's bee-yoo-tiful. It's my favorite of all their recorded performances,

  • geddy lee! no one plays bass like that anymore

  • but everyone realizes that from 1:25 on is a battle between By-tor and the snow dog, on guitar and bass respectively right?

  • the pants have been shat

  • Yeah i think the dog's name was Biter

  • Rush's road manager Howard Ungerleider came up with the title at a party. There were two dogs at the party, one a German shepherd and the other a tiny white nervous dog. Howard used to call the shepherd By-Tor because anyone that walked into the house was bitten. The other dog was a snow-dog (white). So from that night on Howard called the pair of dogs "By-Tor and the Snow Dog." The dogs belonged to Rush's manager.

  • @DannyWDrums By-tor is the owl on the front of Fly By Night. The dog is Snowdog.

  • @JIMAINE - Both were dogs. Rush's managers dogs as a matter of fact.

  • Hey, isn't "By-Tor" the Owl on the front of Fly By Night?

  • @NintendoSwii nope, By-Tor is (was) a dog ;)

  • @NintendoSwii No it's just a really cute (but badass) owl.

  • just plain sick....the talent and precision on display here is beyond belief. Remember - they were barely past 20 years old when they wrote this ! The mind boggles.....Rush has been my favourite band for 30 years, and I've drawn inspiration and strength from songs all through those 30 years. Here's hoping they keep kicking ass for many years to come

  • @somtawyer You've really put it into perspective when you say they were barely in their 20s when they wrote this...unreal!.Most 20 year olds now want to be on "pop idol" without having to graft their way through the pub and club circuit. They want a short cut to celebrity and have no musical integrity!!.Rush are the template for how it should be done!!

  • Attention all planets of the solar federation, please kick the asses of the 6 idiots who disliked this so we can assume total control of this epic band. Really.....dislike??? What the heck are you watching a Rush video for anyway? Long live RUSH!!!!

  • @TheSkullMan66

Those 6 idiots probably write for Rolling Stone magazine, the entity behind the conspiracy to keep the GREAT BAND out of the RnR Hall of Fame.

  • *this GREAT BAND

    that is.

  • I was the only one to do the last "PAAAAAAAAAAAAAWWWWWWWW" at the end? lol

  • OMG...Bytor and the Snowdog!!! " The Power Trio " Seen their first U.S. Tour they lost John Rutsey and entered The Professor Neil Peart! I feel blessed that I was able too see so many of their Amazing show's!

  • Awesomeness!!!

  • O MY GOD these guys are insane

  • geddy is freaking ridiculous in this video....omg

  • i wish i had half his talent...

  • Power trio, unbeatable, but now there's Muse...

  • @dezingendebroeder I like the analogy, Rush is still better though imo.

  • @sealsxc Much better!

  • This tour was the "Golden Ticket" tour when I was a lad.

  • Rush is under rated most people i know only like pop and rap so every day i immerse myself in Rush so i don't end up like them

  • by-tor got robbed

  • Geddy's part of the "battle" is so intense in this live version!!

  • This is a crazy song-but one of my Rush favourites.

  • the netherworld's chili from bubba's bar and grill

    Chile !!!

    thoughts realm of miners

  • yeaahh!!

  • The best, They are amazing, and they still play heavy to this day. NICE!!! R&R Hall of Fame where are you!!!!!!!!

  • geddy rips alex in this!!

  • saw this tour too :)

  • man i am so high right now

  • @symbolicdynamics yeeeaahhh haha :P

  • rush=life

  • I don't care who you are, what era you play/played in... You can't touch Peart in his prime. 2:29 - 3:53 is just jaw dropping.

  • That was just, too much, I´m going home. :)

  • Oh man! The memories this brings back! I saw them play this at the local community college right after it came out. They had a simple platform stage set up on the gym floor, and me and my friends were sitting right in the front under Geddy's nose. My cousin who, was the biggest Rush head around, had to piss through the whole concert and held it in. We had maybe heard Bytor a few times by then. I was dying to hear it live. Energetic and trippy. . It don't get better than this.

  • @cruzn246 You realize you did what most RUSH fans only fantasize about. Man, that must have been amazing.

  • @cruzn246

That would have been great to see that. I wish I had been conceived a lot earlier in the 20th century to be able to see Rush live and to appreciate them as much as I do.

  • @cruzn246 i was in wale,s on 31 oct 1981 when i saw this unbeiiveable group only cost me 5 pounds 2 get in still got the tckt lol happy day,s were have they all gone?

  • @cruzn246 i would drink my piss to have been there for that!!! haha I was born in the wrong generation

  • @cruzn246 Isn`t everyone sitting under Geddy`s nose?

  • @cruzn246 considering its size the entire first 2 rows were under geddy's nose

  • @cruzn246 nobody gives a fuck

  • The camera angles don't do them justice.

  • When is the last new song on the radio you heard that kicked this much ass?

  • @jamesspeculator Caravan ;)

  • Is that By-tor or the Snow Dog with a tummy growl starting at 1:26?

  • Neil Peart my HERO

  • @MrPartymob MINE TOO!

  • @MrPartymob yours too!?

  • @MrPartymob Alex is my hero :)

  • can anybody tell me what is the meaning of the song? :(

  • @balerinauzicka Its about an evil prince who is evil but gets defeated in a battle by "The snowdog", and returns as the good guy in the song "The Necromancer" who deafeats the evil necromancer who captures and tortures the three travelers from willow dale and evrybody is all like yay rush did it there amazing i </3 them yah

  • Wow ! I used to listen to this back in 77 this is one band you have to listen LOUD ! good music never dies

  • THE end-all be-all of a power trio. Music would not be what it is today if it weren't for these 3 geniuses. This was also an incredible DVD and live album.

  • Ahh man! My favorite band and my favorite song. The 3 drum solos Niel Peart has at the end are epic.

  • @ifyouthinkthatwasfun

    HAHAHA OH WOW nice try

  • @ifyouthinkthatwasfun ....Settle down Beavis. There are some pretty words on your profile, I suggest you take them to heart.

  • Incredible

  • 5 people missed the like button

  • MOVING PICTURS TOUR!Neal No RUSH Are GODS!:0)

  • Very overlooked and underrated band. Their skills as musicians are inhuman. I believe they came from another planet to bring some sanity to the world and kick some rockin' ass along the way. Alex is an axeman par excellence. You cannot mistake Geddy's pipes from any other singer plus his bass playing is second to none. Neil's mastery of the drums is well documented...he is just not satisfied with a basic set, he has to surround himself with toms, snares, and cymbals. Jaw dropping band.

  • I first seen these guys at Grant Hall,Queen's University in Kingston Ontario in 1974! They opened for Nazareth! My first concert (I was 14), It was great...both bands!

  • hell yeah

  • This is my favorite Rush song. Fucking masterpiece. Can't wait to see them in september for the second time!

  • Thanks a trillion times, one of the best versions of this song I never heard before! Can I get the full version?

  • @medeerbeer The full version is available in the "Replay X3" offering. This is a three-DVD set of this concert, Grace Under Pressure (1984), and A Show of Hands from 1989. Hope this helps!

  • whats the thing that says BYTOR and in the solo it makes those weird sounds?

  • Can it get any better?

  • Those 3 little drum solos at the end are some of Neil's best work.

  • I still haven't found a better band than the holy trinity.

  • alex is just shreddin man both him and geddy a neil sounds like 5 people instead of 3

  • neil = god

  • amazing sound from a 3 piece set-up!

  • how hypnotiq a song. had me dreaming of newspapers finding the cure after the bones are buried.

  • by-tor wasnt on exit stage left....still amazing song

  • @PeeceSells Yeah it was. It was on the video release, but not the LP. Same tour though

  • @PeeceSells yes it was.

  • @PeeceSells oh nvm then, i got the album off itunes, didnt know

  • What a great tune!

  • Someone said:most underrated band. They are the best band everrrrrrrr! Their music is for those ones which know meaning of good sound. And they will rock forever!

Волим бре Rush, какав подцењен бенд, наааајбољи.Александар Живојиновић!!!!!!!Србија:-))))))))))))))))

  • zany guttoral raw weeping, praise eth

  • Time Machine 2010

  • most favorite band of all time and always will be my most favorite band of all time!!!

  • The Rickenbaker was only played on a few albums. The Fender is really his main bass.
