@squirilman009 Yeah but he fought a lot of old guys who were gassed out and laying on those ropes. Ali showed heavyweights how to cover up properly on the ropes, while you were taking a break. The older fighters like Joe Walcott, Archie Moore and Joe Louis never used that strategy and that's why Marciano was able to eventually beat them after all of them gave him problems earlier. That's why Holmes also said Marciano couldnt carry his jock strap because the heavyweights had evolved so much.
@CanvassBlack Yeah old guys can't fight. Lennox Lewis, Bernard Hopkins, George Foreman, Holmes, and Holyfield never won.
The rope-a-dope worked once for Ali...when the ropes were looser than a drunken cheerleader in the Cowboys lockeroom.
Holmes made that remark about Marciano because one of Rocky's relatives was being disrespectful at the press conference. One was celebrating that Holmes lost and fell short of the record, somethign Rocky never would've approved of himself.
@mongoose704 I understand whites want a heavywweight champ but it is what it is. Rocky Marciano was a decent fighter with a big heart. He was probably a better person than actual fighter and I'll always respect him for that. Joe Calzaghe retired undefeated too. You get my drift.
@squirilman009 Another thing, many fighters never grabbed Marciano when they were hurt. They just let him load up on those wide hooks. I meant to say" Marciano would never get away with those wide hooks not wild as I had previously stated.

@PDMvidz Old men and leightheavyweights like Roland LaStarza - 37-0, Rex Layne - 34-1-2, Carmine Vingo - 16-1, Kid Matthews - 81-3-5 or Eddie Ross - 15-0-1? Check your facts!
@LarS1963 Eddie Ross went on to fight in 23 fights, 4 of them losses, 3 by KO. he Fought Joe Louis who was 40 yrs old. Archie Moore who was 41 yrs old. Jersey Joe Walcott who was 41. Lee Savold who was 39 yrs old. he fought 5 fights at under 175 lbs. even one fight at 172 lbs. he even illegally fought his brother under a different name in the amateurs! Check your facts!
Why these silly arguments, about which boxer could beat which one?
What Marciano WAS, was the best of his time. He fought everyone there was to fight, several more than once, and defeated them all.
He was a poor technician, but brave as few, solid as rock, and hitting like a sledgehammer. He was extremely fit and well-trained. And.... often forgotten... the smallest and lightest man to ever hold the title a world heavyweight champion.
Very well put. In life, a person like Rocky will always stand out for all time.He never quit. Wow he was very tough.I always enjoy watching his fights.Enough said.
@LarS1963 great comment, but I do believe that Jim Corbett was lighter and shorter. Regardless - that was a totally different era and Rocky did all a heavyweight champ can do: fight everybody in his era.
70 fights. 48 wins, 19 losses, 3 draws. He had a good streak of 11 wins, which made him a top-contender, until he was defeated by Archie Moore in their rematch. His next match he lost as well, before defeating Don Cockell.
December 1955 he faced Bob Baker, a match he had to win in order to get a shot against Marciano. He lost however, and from there he went on to yet more losses. He won his very last match in december -59, before retiring.
@bcibibcibcpCB He was bigger, but I doubt very much wether he was stronger.
Anyway, who knows? They are all long gone. I don't think he could have done it, but you do and fair enough. The point is, he lost to Bob Baker, and by that, he lost his shot at the title. That's boxing. You are never better than your last match.
@LarS1963 The point I wanted to make is, the 49-0 record doesn't make him better then other greats. Most Marciano fans bring that up. But I agree, every era has one fighter who stands above the rest and maybe we shouldn't speculate on who was the best of all time because it's hard to compare different era's.
@bcibibcibcpCB In my opinion, Marciano was ONE of the all time greats. I'd never presume to name one boxer as the best of all time. One era differs from the next, and boxing has changed a lot.
I like watching Marciano's because of his relentless style; what Moore described as: Fighting an airplane propeller. He was so utterly merciless and so extremely dogged, that it makes him stand as ONE of the perhaps ten boxers who stands above the rest, IMO.
@mongoose704 I know and good point. The amount of punches Marciano would throw was incredible, as can anyone who has ever been in the ring, even as a fledgling amateur can testify to. Being in the ring is so incredible draining, that the very idea of throwing 120 punches in one round, let alone 15 is bringing a sweat on my brow.
@LarS1963 And still throw them hard. Marciano retained his power into the late rounds. Ask Walcott 8^) Wait, he likely doesn't remember much about that punch!
@bcibibcibcpCB Not one man that fought Marciano said he was easy to hit. In fact most voiced their surprise at how difficult it was to hit him solidly. Ali sparred with Marciano and said he was surprised how he was STILL able to slip jabs (at age 45!) That crouch made it very difficult for people to hit him.
@LarS1963 And he fought in an era where fighters actually had to fight top contenders to get a title shot. They couldn't just paste old men and tomato cans for a 20-0 record and a title shot. The fighters Rocky beat on his way up put the fighters Tyson beat to shame and were in their prime! Roland LaStarza was 37-0 and 53-3 Rex Layne 34-1-2 and was favored. Carmine Vingo 16-1 Kid Matthews 81-3-5 In his 4th pro fight he beat Eddie Ross 15-0-1 who was the hottest prospect of the day.
@LarS1963 he was not the smallest or lightest man to hold the heavy weight title, mike tyson was shorter, tommy burns was a heavyweight champion who lost his title to jack johnson, burns was 5 7 and 180lbs. . and he was a heavyweight champ, so yeah. .sulivan was also shorter than marciano, bob fitzsimmons was way lighter and only a half inch taller, frazier is only a half inch taller than him too
I have been checking my facts since I made that post, since several people has pointed out I was wrong. I actually thought Tyson was bigger than the 5'10" he is listed at. When I saw him against Lewis, who is 6'5", I guessed him at 6'2". Obviously, my eyesight betrayed me. :)
Savold was a former middle who was what 39? Lastarza was tko'd not ko'ed. Jimothy seems you're the retard. Moore started career at 146 ,now who's the retard , dummy...
yeah well..Berbick..Ali was as shot as Louis when he fought Marciano. Shavers punched harder...so he could punch. Leave yourself open like that and a sharp shooter like Ali in his prime 66 67 would have stopped Marciano on cuts in the middle rounds. EASY!
ya marciano spared with ali. all ali could do was to complain to dundee that marciano was hitting to hard. marciano told dundee he had a beautiful fighter , a real champ, but if i was in my prime, i wouldve torn him apart.
dude him or ali would destroy you dont act like they couldent an no him and ali did not spare becuz rocky is dead an ali is crippled an rocky was dead before ali was big
Can't argue with me . I was there for both guys. I am an avid fan. I know the sport. Marciano was great in his era but the next guys coming made him quit with fear. Having said that if it was today, no one could beat him. Name one guy today that could beat Rocky and don't even mention those Klitchoes.
Marciano retired in April of 1956. Patterson was Light Heavyweight, and Liston was a small name fighter at that time. There were no big fighters. So unless if Marciano was psychic, Marciano wasn't scared of a fucking thing.. better get your facts straight.
and Holmes was in his prime. Ali fought one more time against a future Champion in Berbick again while suffering from Parkinson's and he didn't quit. 49 and 0 means nothing if u quit. Marciano quit. 49 and quit!
No puncher ever got Ali..only time did. Except for the corner stoppage when Ali fought Holmes after 21 years as a pro and was sick with Parkinsons and at the end of an amazing career. Ali was never koed..tkoed ONCE in 21 years!! and he didn't stop the fight. He's faced harder punchers than Marciano and beat em..many of them well after his prime. Ali tkoes Marciano. Ig they fought 1000 times Ali would just keep winning too fast, great chin and any fighter that beat him was avenged. Except Holmes
And the only puncher that ever punched harder than Marciano that Ali fought was George Foreman. and there is no chance in the world that Marciano would lose to Ali by TKO, KO or any kind of stoppage... the fight definatley goes the distance.
Jimothy, Shavers hit a lot harder then Rock did. Ken Norton hit harder also and so did Lyle and Liston. Fraziers left was bigger then any punch Rock had.Quarry punched harder also. All of the above guys power were tested against much bigger opponents then the ones Rock was fighting. Rock was beating up on old former welters and middles.
No fucking way Norton, Lyle, Liston, or Frazier punched harder than Marciano. When Marciano fought Lee Savold, he broke Savold's forearm. When he fought Roland La Starza, LaStarza had to go into surgery immediatley after being knocked out. Marciano once fought a man named Bernie Reynolds. Lifted the man so far off of his feet, his heels and the back of his head hit the ground at the same time. There wasn't a single former welter or middle the rock had fought retard..
It's not like Marciano cut like Henry Cooper. Marciano had some decent cut resistence. The 60s Ali did not have that strong of a chin. He was often times suprised when he actually did get hit by the harder punchers of the 1960s and he was dropped, by the likes of Henry Cooper. I think that fight ends up to be one big suprise, from which Ali can't get up from.
It doesn't matter what the books say, because the books do not prove a thing. All they prove is that they are great fighters. But they do not prove that they would beat other great fighters. I bet you can find four credible sources saying that Mike Tyson was the greatest fighter ever lived, but we all know that that is nothing but a bunch of bullcrap.
Of course Ali NEVER fought Marciano but Rocky makes the old boxing axiom "Punchers are born not made" It boggles my mind that a small heavy could hit that hard. No wonder no one hit him, they were afraid to get close.
I have to go throught this a million times a day when I argue with all of you Ali fans. Marciano never did fight Ali. But they did have a sparring match before the outcome of the computer match was decided.
Punchers aren't born. I really hate it when people say things like that and they say that "Heros are born not made," iot just bothers the living crap out of me. It is the events leading up to the point that decides what they are. Say Marciano went through his life like a typical todays
(continued) spoiled white kid and never learned to be tough, he would have never had the hand toughness that he did. So he would not have been able to absorb as much pain in the hands from the impact from the punch. Same things with the heroes part. Say the hero goes through life until he is 13 and he makes friends with these crack heads, makes some money selling crack, and then becomes a drug czar. Hes not much of a hero then is he., Sorry that is just one of my pet peeves ROFL.
indestructable italian killing machine , who ever say`s that little man was or what he could do was a fake should have got into the ring with him then find out what he could really do RESPECT TO HIM 100 PERCENT ! i wish
i could have been in his corner to witness
rocky`s fight`s , this man`s is a warrior to every boxer across the whole world . There is
no boxer like him and never will be . DVCterminator2
thats all..rocky was a toe to toe brawler...he took more hard hits...and came back swinging...and delivered the knockout ...you said it right...he took the punches and came back stronger to win... The Rock
well, the things that you guys say is true, but I will have to tell you something. Rocky Marciano was not easy to hit. You wont see him taking many punches. It looks like he is getting hit, but he is actually slipping those punches. Nobody could get under the arms of his opponents better than Rocky Marciano. Ali, had a hart time hitting him, and that is saying something. and IMO, Rocky Marciano is, and always will be, the greatest fighter ever lived.
weak record. charles louis and wlcott all in their mid and late fourties. other than them and an old ass archie moore, I havnt heard of anyone on his record.
LaStarza, Kid Matthews, Rex Lane, Rocky didn't just barely beat these guys, he punished and steamrolled them. Could Ali have done any better? Rocky never gave up. He was virtually unbeatable. The only reason he quit boxing when he did was that his back was going out. Otherwise he would have steamrolled into the sixties and retired before he met Clay. He would have been to old to faced Clay.
I think he would have whipped Patterson with a knockout, been knocked down by Liston, but gotten up and hit Liston so hard that it would make Liston's punches seem soggy. Once Liston tasted the Rock's power I think he would have gone down easily.
You are pretty much right. But there are better analogies than Rocky. Jess Willard was 6'6" 240lbs vs. Jack Dempsey 6'0" 190lbs, and Dempsey broke Willards face, and ribs inside of 3 rounds. Max Baer 6'2" 200lbs vs. Primo Carnera 6'5&1/2" 280lbs. Max Baer dominated Carnera and knocked him out in the 11th round.
Marciano trained harder than anyone. He did not box scientifically, which meant boxers were bewildered by him, plus he never wore down, had a will that would not let him lose and hit harder than almost any boxer in history. He could go underneath punches, crouching down to three feet tall and stalk, and pop up and deliver devastating blows that only grew stronger with each round. This guy would wipe the floor with so many boxers you think could easily defeat him.
Yeah; but Ali said that he found it frustrating that he could not hit Marciano with his deadly jab, plus, Marciano put welts on his ribs and put him down once by a bodyblow well past the ten-count. Ali said, " I want more money! That man HITS too hard!" Remember, this was a fory-five year old Marciano.
understand fighters of yesteryear trained hard,,,,todays fighters all carry 20 extra pounds,,in simon peters case,,50 extra pounds,,,,nobody trains down for endurance or speed to aide in punch,,rocky easily could have fought at 202,,but at a cost,,if tyson would have fought at 205 he would still be champ
not the best record ever, but the best heavyweight record ever. There was some guy at a lighter weight who retired undefeated with 55 wins. Marciano is still the best, imo.
ironvenko...I'll take the words of Joe Louis, Ali, Archie Moore, Angelo Dundee, Sonny Liston and many others who know a shitload more than you when they say Marciano was great and/or underrated.
Well, David Haye is a good boxer. I think that you are exaggerating his skills. Even though Rocky Marciano was the greatest fighter ever lived, imo, David Haye would be good enough to be a friend of Rocky's. It is not the quality of the fighter, but the quality of the character.
Maybe if Marciano used steriods(like all pro athletes today) he could have weighed 210 pounds. Tyson's mental instability is directley tied to his consumption of roids.
Linebackers in the 1960s weighed 210 to 220 pounds. Then came the 1970s(era of steriods),all of a sudden linebackers were tipping the scales at 250. Marciano had class(as did that entire generation of fighters).
It's the exact opposite. The big, slow Foreman was all wrong for fighting Marciano. If anyone tried to exchange punches with Marciano, he would be KO'd. The best result you could get vs Marciano is to defend and lose the decision. He had the best combination of power, speed and stamina in boxing history. Foreman lacked speed and stamina, Tunney and Ali lacked power, Tyson lacked stamina... the only complete heavyweight was Marciano in 1950-1951.
Hey Bugees...totally agree. Foreman couldn't lay a glove on the crouching, ducking Rock, and if he did knock him down he'd be back up in about four seconds ready for more. Unlike Frazier, he would let Foreman wear down and then start unleashing his powerful fists which were the most devastating of all time.
I agree with what you are saying, but you cant tell me ali didnt have a good punch. He had a great punch. Just not as good as rockys. He is pretty fast though.
At 187 pounds, Marciano was a cruiser weight. Maybe the best. However against a true heavyweight champion in his prime such as Foreman, Tyson, Lewis or Liston, Marciano would have serious trouble.
I hate it when retards like you say crap like that. It doesnt matter what the weight standards are now, but at that time Rocky was a heavyweight, SO HIS IS A FREAKING HEAVYWEIGHT!!!!!! STFU, he would have kicked the crap out of Tyson. Marciano could hit harder than Tyson. IF HE WAS A CRUISERWEIGHT, HOW DID HE WIN THE HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE? STFU RETARD!!!!!!
PRFrancis: Rocky and Ali only had one common opponent: Archie Moore. Marciano KO'd him in 8, Ali in 4, but by then Moore was an old man.
The fact is that Marciano beat everyone he fought. The reason you think Ali's opponents were better is because Frazier and Norton actually beat Ali. Rocky fought Roland LaStarza, who was 37-0 at the time, and won by split decision. LaStarza was better than Norton, Frazier or Foreman, but you need to watch the guy to know this.
LaStarza was awesome. Many boxing experts believe he would have been a champ if it hadn't been for Rocky. In the second fight, Rocky busted him up something terrible because he was angry that Roland had intimated he was punch drunk.
Rocky Marciano is, without a doubt, my all-time favorite boxer. I dont care what anybody says. Ali wouldnt have beaten him in his prime. only Joe Louis and Jack Dempsey stood a chance at beating him, but I would still like to favor the Rock.
Hey coryclark...Joe Louis himself said he could never beat the Rock in a Boxing Illustrated interview. He said it was because the Rock always crowded him and that was his (Joe's) weakness.
oh there were some others, like Max Baer. Primo Carnera would have had a awesome fight. I know for a fact that some of the boxers never caught on camera could have beaten Marciano.
Well we wouldnt know for shure because the mob hides crap pretty well. Primo Carnera was six foot five and two-hundred-and-eighty pounds. He had a hell of a punch. He was touph too, i dont care if any of his fights was fixed. The way Max Baer beat him like a dog and he still got up. Max Baer punches harder than tyson.
it's an awesome book it's got marciano, graziano, lamotta, basillio, pep, and a couple other italian greats! it's at barnes and noble for like thirty bucks online though....TOTALLY WORTH IT THOUGH
You don't know SHIT for a fact BoxingManiac... you are just speculating and hoping. As Angelo Dundee said, " These guys who say so-and-so could beat so-and-so in the ring are full of bullshit! They don't know until the fight is over".
I forget what I said. I do know what Marciano was capable of. He is no doubt one of the best boxers ever lived (i put him at the #1 spot with 3 other greats)
LOL, I see why i pissed you off. well, i was a bit stupider back then (half a year ago). IMO, Rocky Marciano is the greatest fighter ever lived, that we know of. That is all I have to say.
Rocky Maciano had 49 wins and zero losses. Ali had 5 bad losses and now he cannot talk any more. Rocky Maciano retired with all his abilities in tack. His speach was fine. He could run, walk, talk and do everything he could do before boxing. Muhammad Ali doses off during public apearances. The Fact is Rocky Maciano was not only a better fighter, but s wiser individual.
Sorry prfrancis, but i have to disagree, Ali fought more big name fighters, but you cannot say he fought better competition. During rock's time there were like 2000 heavyweights, During Ali's time there were only a few hundred. Fighters during Rock's time are terribly underrated by people today. Style wise, Marciano looks kinda goofy and off, but its really almost flawless. Ali had great form, but he left his head too open and got punished for it.
bro, Francis is right, i dont really know why is it important to him that Ali ko"d some same opponets faster than rocky, but the 70s boxers were the best quality (at least on my opinion) of all decades! The boxing was at best! But no, not in Marcianos time. Rocky has never beaten an all time great(and please dont even think about mentioning the almost 40 year old Joe Louis)
I have respect for Rocky but he is far from best in my books!
Hey axlrose...Rocky could be beaten...by SOMEONE! at least...but the fact is, it was his indomitable spirit and heart that made him the greatest champion of all time.
OK. Lets see, how many times did Marciano lose? Ali lost 5 times (Joe Frazier, Ken Norton, Leon Spinks, Larry Holmes, Trevor Berbick). Last time I checked, Marciano never lost a fight. 49-0-0, 43 KOs. And Marciano knew when to stop fighting.
Hey PRFrancis...they were from two different eras. No way that Ali beats Marciano... he had an extremely tough time just sparring with him during their computer fight and The Rock was 46!
Marciano would never get away with those wild hooks later on as boxing progressed and fighters tightened up their defense.

@CanvassBlack Marciano was a superior in fighter and was extremely good at cutting the ring, he can fight inclose unlike alot of modern heavies.

@squirilman009 Yeah but he fought a lot of old guys who were gassed out and laying on those ropes. Ali showed heavyweights how to cover up properly on the ropes, while you were taking a break.

@PDMvidz Old men and leightheavyweights like Roland LaStarza - 37-0, Rex Layne - 34-1-2, Carmine Vingo - 16-1, Kid Matthews - 81-3-5 or Eddie Ross - 15-0-1? Check your facts!
LarS1963 6 months ago
@LarS1963 Eddie Ross went on to fight in 23 fights, 4 of them losses, 3 by KO. he Fought Joe Louis who was 40 yrs old. Archie Moore who was 41 yrs old. Jersey Joe Walcott who was 41. Lee Savold who was 39 yrs old. he fought 5 fights at under 175 lbs. even one fight at 172 lbs. he even illegally fought his brother under a different name in the amateurs! Check your facts!

IronTapeProductions 2 years ago
Why these silly arguments, about which boxer could beat which one?
What Marciano WAS, was the best of his time. He fought everyone there was to fight, several more than once, and defeated them all.
He was a poor technician, but brave as few, solid as rock, and hitting like a sledgehammer. He was extremely fit and well-trained. And.... often forgotten... the smallest and lightest man to ever hold the title a world heavyweight champion.
What else is there to say?
LarS1963 2 years ago 10
Very well put. In life, a person like Rocky will always stand out for all time.He never quit. Wow he was very tough.I always enjoy watching his fights.Enough said.
dkrz 2 years ago
Bob Fitzsimmons was actually the lightest heavyweight champion.
corytclark 2 years ago
@LarS1963 great comment, but I do believe that Jim Corbett was lighter and shorter. Regardless - that was a totally different era and Rocky did all a heavyweight champ can do: fight everybody in his era.
yerty2000 1 year ago
@LarS1963 He didn't fight everybody around. For an example Nino Valdez, a great fighter with the size of a modern heavyweight.
bcibibcibcpCB 1 year ago
@bcibibcibcpCB Nino Valdez:
He never quite made it.
LarS1963 1 year ago
@LarS1963 He would have given Marciano all kinds of troubles. A bigger, stronger fighter against a small pressure fighter who was easy to hit.
bcibibcibcpCB 1 year ago
@bcibibcibcpCB He was bigger, but I doubt very much wether he was stronger.
Anyway, who knows? They are all long gone. I don't think he could have done it, but you do and fair enough. The point is, he lost to Bob Baker, and by that, he lost his shot at the title. That's boxing. You are never better than your last match.
LarS1963 1 year ago
@LarS1963 The point I wanted to make is, the 49-0 record doesn't make him better then other greats. Most Marciano fans bring that up. But I agree, every era has one fighter who stands above the rest and maybe we shouldn't speculate on who was the best of all time because it's hard to compare different era's.
bcibibcibcpCB 1 year ago
@bcibibcibcpCB In my opinion, Marciano was ONE of the all time greats. I'd never presume to name one boxer as the best of all time. One era differs from the next, and boxing has changed a lot.
I like watching Marciano's because of his relentless style; what Moore described as: Fighting an airplane propeller. He was so utterly merciless and so extremely dogged, that it makes him stand as ONE of the perhaps ten boxers who stands above the rest, IMO.
LarS1963 1 year ago
@LarS1963 The average heavyweight today throws forty punches a round.
Marciano threw about 120....and he could keep that up with power for 15 rounds.
mongoose704 8 months ago
@mongoose704 I know and good point. The amount of punches Marciano would throw was incredible, as can anyone who has ever been in the ring, even as a fledgling amateur can testify to. Being in the ring is so incredible draining, that the very idea of throwing 120 punches in one round, let alone 15 is bringing a sweat on my brow.
LarS1963 8 months ago
@LarS1963 And still throw them hard. Marciano retained his power into the late rounds. Ask Walcott 8^) Wait, he likely doesn't remember much about that punch!
mongoose704 8 months ago
Comment removed
mongoose704 8 months ago
@bcibibcibcpCB Not one man that fought Marciano said he was easy to hit. In fact most voiced their surprise at how difficult it was to hit him solidly. Ali sparred with Marciano and said he was surprised how he was STILL able to slip jabs (at age 45!) That crouch made it very difficult for people to hit him.
mongoose704 8 months ago
@LarS1963 And he fought in an era where fighters actually had to fight top contenders to get a title shot. They couldn't just paste old men and tomato cans for a 20-0 record and a title shot. The fighters Rocky beat on his way up put the fighters Tyson beat to shame and were in their prime! Roland LaStarza was 37-0 and 53-3 Rex Layne 34-1-2 and was favored. Carmine Vingo 16-1 Kid Matthews 81-3-5 In his 4th pro fight he beat Eddie Ross 15-0-1 who was the hottest prospect of the day.
mongoose704 8 months ago
@LarS1963 he was not the smallest or lightest man to hold the heavy weight title, mike tyson was shorter, tommy burns was a heavyweight champion who lost his title to jack johnson, burns was 5 7 and 180lbs. . and he was a heavyweight champ, so yeah. .sulivan was also shorter than marciano, bob fitzsimmons was way lighter and only a half inch taller, frazier is only a half inch taller than him too
bphatboyjohn123 6 months ago
@bphatboyjohn123 yeah, sorry.

also, Rocky was not dead before Ali was big. Ali became champ in 1964, and was in his prime 1966-1967. But Marciano died in 1969...

Can't argue with me . I was there for both guys. I am an avid fan. I know the sport. Marciano was great in his era but the next guys coming made him quit with fear. Having said that if it was today, no one could beat him. Name one guy today that could beat Rocky and don't even mention those Klitchoes.
zenknown 3 years ago 2
I can and will argue with you, and I will win.
Marciano retired in April of 1956. Patterson was Light Heavyweight, and Liston was a small name fighter at that time. There were no big fighters. So unless if Marciano was psychic, Marciano wasn't scared of a fucking thing.. better get your facts straight.
JimothyMuhammadShow 2 years ago
and Holmes was in his prime. Ali fought one more time against a future Champion in Berbick again while suffering from Parkinson's and he didn't quit. 49 and 0 means nothing if u quit. Marciano quit. 49 and quit!
zenknown 3 years ago
No puncher ever got Ali..only time did. Except for the corner stoppage when Ali fought Holmes after 21 years as a pro and was sick with Parkinsons and at the end of an amazing career. Ali was never koed..tkoed ONCE in 21 years!! and he didn't stop the fight. He's faced harder punchers than Marciano and beat em..many of them well after his prime. Ali tkoes Marciano. Ig they fought 1000 times Ali would just keep winning too fast, great chin and any fighter that beat him was avenged. Except Holmes
zenknown 3 years ago
Get your facts straight before you argue
Ali never avenged his loss to Berbick...
And the only puncher that ever punched harder than Marciano that Ali fought was George Foreman. and there is no chance in the world that Marciano would lose to Ali by TKO, KO or any kind of stoppage... the fight definatley goes the distance.
JimothyMuhammadShow 2 years ago
Jimothy, Shavers hit a lot harder then Rock did. Ken Norton hit harder also and so did Lyle and Liston. Fraziers left was bigger then any punch Rock had.Quarry punched harder also. All of the above guys power were tested against much bigger opponents then the ones Rock was fighting. Rock was beating up on old former welters and middles.
RayPFP 2 years ago
AHAHAHAAH, man your funny.
There wasn't a single former welter or middle the rock had fought retard..

ssaltspring 3 years ago

BoxingManiac 3 years ago
Of course Ali NEVER fought Marciano but Rocky makes the old boxing axiom "Punchers are born not made" It boggles my mind that a small heavy could hit that hard. No wonder no one hit him, they were afraid to get close.
ssaltspring 3 years ago 3
I have to go throught this a million times a day when I argue with all of you Ali fans. Marciano never did fight Ali. But they did have a sparring match before the outcome of the computer match was decided.
Punchers aren't born. I really hate it when people say things like that and they say that "Heros are born not made," iot just bothers the living crap out of me. It is the events leading up to the point that decides what they are. Say Marciano went through his life like a typical todays
BoxingManiac 3 years ago
(continued) spoiled white kid and never learned to be tough, he would have never had the hand toughness that he did. So he would not have been able to absorb as much pain in the hands from the impact from the punch. Same things with the heroes part. well, the things that you guys say is true, but I will have to tell you something.

He would have been to old to faced Clay.
jcashtbo 4 years ago 3
I think he would have whipped Patterson with a knockout, been knocked down by Liston, but gotten up and hit Liston so hard that it would make Liston's punches seem soggy. Once Liston tasted the Rock's power I think he would have gone down easily.

Marciano is the perfect David vs Goliath moral. In his time, David will ALWAYS WIN!!!
jcashtbo 4 years ago 2
You are pretty much right. But there are better analogies than Rocky. Jess Willard was 6'6" 240lbs vs. Jack Dempsey 6'0" 190lbs, and Dempsey broke Willards face, and ribs inside of 3 rounds. Max Baer 6'2" 200lbs vs. Primo Carnera 6'5&1/2" 280lbs. Max Baer dominated Carnera and knocked him out in the 11th round.
BoxingManiac 3 years ago
Marciano trained harder than anyone. He did not box scientifically, which meant boxers were bewildered by him, plus he never wore down, had a will that would not let him lose and hit harder than almost any boxer in history. He could go underneath punches, crouching down to three feet tall and stalk, and pop up and deliver devastating blows that only grew stronger with each round. This guy would wipe the floor with so many boxers you think could easily defeat him.

Yeah; but Ali said that he found it frustrating that he could not hit Marciano with his deadly jab, plus, Marciano put welts on his ribs and put him down once by a bodyblow well past the ten-count. mike tyson never used steroids you would get caught by boxing assosaion
xxxjamxxx638 4 years ago
Maybe if Marciano used steriods(like all pro athletes today) he could have weighed 210 pounds. Tyson's mental instability is directley tied to his consumption of roids.
Linebackers in the 1960s weighed 210 to 220 pounds. Then came the 1970s(era of steriods),all of a sudden linebackers were tipping the scales at 250. Marciano had class(as did that entire generation of fighters).
lisafamily 4 years ago
It's the exact opposite. The big, slow Foreman was all wrong for fighting Marciano. If anyone tried to exchange punches with Marciano, he would be KO'd. The best result you could get vs Marciano is to defend and lose the decision. He had the best combination of power, speed and stamina in boxing history. Foreman lacked speed and stamina, Tunney and Ali lacked power, Tyson lacked stamina... the only complete heavyweight was Marciano in 1950-1951.
Bugees 4 years ago 3
Hey Bugees...totally agree. Foreman couldn't lay a glove on the crouching, ducking Rock, and if he did knock him down he'd be back up in about four seconds ready for more. Unlike Frazier, he would let Foreman wear down and then start unleashing his powerful fists which were the most devastating of all time.
jcashtbo 4 years ago
The Rock grew more powerful and active with each round. Foreman would be worn down by the sixth.

Bugees 4 years ago
LaStarza was awesome. Many boxing experts believe he would have been a champ if it hadn't been for Rocky. In the second fight, Rocky busted him up something terrible because he was angry that Roland had intimated he was punch drunk.

Rocky Marciano is considered to be the 14th best heavyweight ever, hes the blockton blockbuster.

Reason being Ali fought MUCH better competition and fought some of the same men Marciano fought, Ali ko'd them earlier then Rocky could.
Marcianos still good i give him props
