Backstroke start rules state that you may not curl your toes over the edge if the pad doesn't extend above the water line. At no point were my toes over the edge. I get your type of comments frequently because viewers such as yourself think that there is no way to get the angle of trajectory or lift without pushing straight up off of a gutter. I recommend you watch ANY decent backstroker and learn how it's done. In this video my feet and toes are entirely on the vertical wall
