@hellobil you are so right! I had to do a research paper in college on "Climate Change" interesting the facts you can find when you look, Al Gore is a Fraud who is only in it for the money! this is a natural occurrence for earth, has a lot to do with where the earth is sitting in the solar system and volcanic events, Mans footprint is but a speck when it comes to Co2 releases.
@TheEnddays2009 I'm sorry, but did you just claim that Al Gore is a climate science? Or are you claiming that his book is a scientific journal? Here's the question I ask of all science deniers. What specific data, relationship, correlation (or any measurable quantity or process) would it take to convince you that climate change is real and is driven by CO2 emissions. I am NOT asking about existing evidence, I'm asking you, in your own opinion, what would have to measured to convince you?
@hellobil The glaciers which have been melting have in some cases been around for over 40,000 years, and these ice shelves are dated to hundreds of thousands of years ago. The issue isn't just over the fact that the ice is melting, but at the speed in which it is melting. And either way, if those who believe in man made global warming are wrong, no big deal, but if they are right and nothing is done then we are screwed.
@sdmessenger10 Do you know that Ice Cap on Planet Mars is also melting? Global warming is just a natural phenomenon. Don’t over estimate human’s influence, if nature has to wipe you out, then nothing you can do. Return to Paleo living so to minimize your carbon foot print is a wishful thinking, it is somewhat naive. IPCC ‘s proposition is only there to make some entrepreneur rich, and to suppress the progress in 3rd world countries.

uboa21: Mankind emits CO2 on the scale of what all volcanoes worldwide would if they would be active (3.000.000.000 tons/year). If this isnt enough, what do you need? Smog in the Artica? Its sufficient to add about 1% CO2 to make the system collapse. Ever heard of feedback? With a little noise in a microphone pointed at its amplifying loudspeaker, a run-away effect starts. You dont need much noise to start it.
i gues thats why world powers arrange a war every decade to decimate for reserve resources what will they do next pandemic terrorism abortion oops and leagalisation of same sex marrage .... wait they doing all that now j/k
Yes, global warming is real HOWEVER our beautiful Earth has gone through these changes at least 5 times before in her entire history. Earth always sheds her "skin" every so many thousands of years. This is really nothing new, only that we are alive right now to witness it.
@LPF767 .............................................Yes, it is real, and for most of Earth's history it was completely natural. What many people don't realize is that the RATE at which we are witnessing it now is UNnatural. There are things that humans around the world are doing to cause this UNnatural rate of climate change.
@LPF767 our pollution is contributing to global warming halting the next ice age people are dam naive if they think all that extra co2 and other gasses are not contributing.
hell its January and +5 our rather then -20 like it should be and we had record rainfall last year around the world I don't mind the warmer weather at all if only we cool loos the toxicity.
Turn down, switch off, recycle, walk. We are facing the wrong problem: the real problem is that there are too many people on Earth. I use my car and eat meat every day, but I do not have children. In my opinion this is a ecological behavior.
An example of pollution happened in south america and the country sued texaco for dumping massive amounts of waste from oil and other manufacturing/refinement processes into a beautiful green area, killing wildlife and polluting the water table people needed to drink too. We arent the main problem, and we dont have billions to spend correcting the problem like the governments, industry and money men behind the largest contaminations. Get "The great global warming swindle" CO2 isnt a main cause
By the way, ice shelves develop each winter and collapse each summer. You can watch the 1978-2009 Antarctic Ice Shelf cycle on youtube. Therefore, politicians mislead people by showing collapse of the ice shelf. They do not show that ice shelves build again in the winter. Currently, its politics going on, rather than Science...
The milanovitch (?) cycle says we are on the verge of going into another ice age. It will last 100,000 years and then we will have another 12,000 years of warm weather. This has happened the last 1.8 million years. It's been proven and it has to do with the sun and gravitational pull of Saturn and Jupiter. Lets carbon tax everyone! The politicians love it.
I ride an electric bike 1000w so I hate pollution as well but a carbon tax will affect all who can least afford it already while profits come over cleaner industry mechanics. That is as out of our control as the story of clouds and snow falling on mars as detected by Pheonix Lidar system. The time of dinosaurs was far higher Co2 and a jungle world may not be so bad. I am just observing and giving my theories based on media reports, I give links that have formed my hunches,
The illusion of a scientific debate was deliberately created. This was done to buy the big polluters more time, and they got about 10-15 years. In fact some of the scientists that came out against man made climate change, just happened to be the same ones that had came out and said that smoking does not cause cancer. The next century or so may not be a very fun on. A legacy left to future generations by corporate greed.
Global warming is solar warming, Mars ice vapourizing forming clouds and snow detected by Canadian scientist via Lidar system on Pheonix. Man contributes but solar cycle 23 continues and global hot spots increase, rainfall decrease and flooding/disapearance of islands off Alaska. Tax the sun, methane from Tundra and permafrost first then the poor.
Yeah, Mars is just like Earth... One can only take the simple example you give, so far. Man contributes, you can't tax certain systems (for example, the ones you mention). We need to try harder and do more. Taxing ourselves is one way depending on implementation as are a whole host of other options. We need to mix and match solutions.
WOW! All you commentators must be so smart and hold really advanced scientific degrees! Since 90+% of the other scentists in the world have determined that it is man-made and most scientific organizations have determined it is man-made.
global warming is all about taxation and making people feel responsible for the change in climate which is unpredictable and not MAN made.
This is not to say that running our cars on oil and chucking your mcd's wrapper on the streets is a good thing, but then again they have suppressed Zero Point Energy for so long that people fidn it hard to believe it exists.
We are modern day cavemen living in an oppressed society with antiquated technology, sucks to be us right now!
ww . appinsys . com / GlobalWarming / Antarctic Wilkins IceShelf . Trying to link a site with detailed data on wilkins ice shelf, not sure why its not linking correctly
check it out definatley shows something fishy- Hangtime96 I agree actually was one of the first science experiments taught in grade school, fill a bowl full of ice pour water to the rim, when ice melts it doesnt leak out
You'll need to cite... You can't just say something because you would like to have people believe it and then expect credibility. All I am asking is the you cite because then people have something to verify what you say.
...and why are some of my counters jammed if I am not raising questions that dispute the actual cause of global warming rationally. Far more offensive stuff with thousands of views gets to front or high numbers,
Ozone Hole Causes Antarctic Sea Ice to EXPAND, Slows Warming
By Alex Morales
April 23 (Bloomberg) -- The ozone hole over the South Pole is canceling out the effects of global warming and causing sea ice production TO BUILD UP around Antarctica, researchers said.
Unfortunatly, I do not believe in global warming myself, Although we arent helping the crisis I believe that it is the cshift from the Ice age moving onto the Heat age as it were, it is a period in the earths life, that has been dramatically accelerated by us, nothing more.
They say when you see a ice burg , only 10% is above water , the the other 90% of the burg is under water . So , if a glacier breaks off the ice shelf and melts , how can that raise sea levels when 90% of the hidden ice burg is already displacing the sea area ? Also , there is air in the ice so that 10% of the above water burg would melt into less then 10% ??? Pour some H2O into a glass , then place a ice cube in it . measure the water level . Then measure again when the ice melts ! It's less
it's scientifically impossible for ice to melt in such a way, these straight cut melts have been caused by man, and I'm very curious right now, there is something bigger happening under the covers
"it's scientifically ipossible for ice to melt in such a way"
I suspect it fractured first. If you look at adererial views, all the pieces have straight edges. As far as man's part, I have to wonder what all the ice drilling has done.
i know is that we are delicate and need certain conditions to live in and we won't survive if the other species we depend on get wiped out because of other conditions.
Ice doesn't melt with ambient temps below zero. There has to be another cause; Antarctica has plenty of volcanic activity - this isn't due to the air warming, but heat from volcanic activity.
Turn off, recycle, and don't permit privileged classes of humans to fly hydrocarbon-fuelled aircraft over ice shelves for the sake of a few pretty pictures.
Calculate your carbon output for the uploading and mass distribution of broadband videos.
Don't observe how plants react to a C02 enriched environment.
Ignore the earliest snowfalls in London for 70yrs, snow in Dubai, Kuwait and Syria, 3x average snowfalls throughout the U.S., and the best Alpine snow conditions "in a generation."
Better yet, ignore the shrinking of every glacier across the world. Ignore the melting of the ice in Greenland. Ignore the collapse of an ice shelf that takes hundreds of years to produce and that has been around for hundreds of years at least. Everything's normal, right?
Greenland, like Antarctica has plenty of volcanic activity. Ambient temps that are below zero don't melt ice; it is the heat from the volcanic activity causing the melting from below the surface.
The closest volcano to the Wilkins shelf is in the Hudson Mountains, at 74.20S 99.25W. This shelf is at 69.45S 75.15W, about 1000km away, so its pretty unlikely. Wilkins is a shelf that has existed for hundreds of thousands of years according to scientists.
A dormant volcano can still have hot spots. The Deception Island volcano is such a volcanoe; it's actually under water. I'm sure it's not the only heat source.
The majority of fossil fuels were created during the age of the dinosaurs over a timescale of about 200m yrs. The storage of these oil reserves effectively removes carbon from the carbon cycle (and therefore, from our atmosphere).
Since the industrial revolution, we have depleted much of the earths oil reserves, re-releasing that carbon in less than two centuries.
We know natural climate fluctuations occur, but what we have done is increased it to a rate beyond our planet's threshold.
What is your investment in fighting this reality we are all facing? Asthma is so seriously on the rise its insane. Tornadoes now hit parts of the country they never have before, almost year round. Hurricane Ike made his way to Ohio last fall! How bad does it have to get? The cost of environmentalist being wrong is minimal compared to the cost of you being wrong. Or maybe your right and we should go hunt down some Dodo birds for dinner.
You can agree that the Earth has warmed without buying into the hysteria that man is responsible or has the ability to do anything about it. The sun heats the earth. The sun has gone thru a stretch of inactivity and global temperatures reflect that. If you want the Earth to cool stop blowing so much hot air.
Great video for CHICKEN LITTLE story. Lots of dramatic music. Oh falling sky and lions and tigers and ice! Fine example of what passes for the scientific method today. Show us photos that prove the point. Prove the situation is unlike what ice shelves have always done. Facts please. Or did you attend college so the professors could tell you how you're suppose to FEEEEEL about things? Science has become the new religion - blind faith in the teachings of your priests.
There weren't any! The Larssen B ice shelf collapse in 2002 was the biggest collapse for 10000 years (though it has been thinning for thousands of years - we're still in the tail end of an ice age). Researchers have measured a 2.5 DegC increase in average temperatures in the Antarctic peninsula over the past 50 years, so expect more.
The video is not meant to be a science class, simply a graphic demonstration of the effect of warming temperatures. You want the facts, go to check out one of those institutions of higher learning which you belittle and take a few climatology classes.
In the summer of 2008 Billy Connolly set sail on a ten-week journey from ocean to ocean: from the Atlantic to the Pacific, by way of the North West Passage - a legendary route deep within the Arctic Circle that has thwarted explorers and fortune-hunters for centuries. For Cook, Drake and countless other adventurers, the North West Passage has been an alluring but impossible journey.
Now the Arctic is melting at a rate of 36,000 square miles a year and the journey is finally possible.
In Thunder Bay Ont Canada they had the first winter on record with no snow 2 years ago. It was raining on Jan 13. Usually this time of year they have 4 feet of snow onthe ground. Not no more.
I'm not even going to take my time to explain why this is a stupid argument that lacks any validity. Go get an education before you start trying to argue a point.
Regardless of where my education came from, there is no SOLID proof that the mere insignifigance of mankind actually altered the earths history of weather. Do some objective research on the history of weather on this planet before modern man even entered the picture. And for the record, I'm an 1993 MIT graduate. And you?
Everyone is entitled to an opinion. Just because you graduated from a respectable school doesn't mean yours is any more important. And for the record, saying "an 1993 MIT graduate" is not correct grammar.
if you want your kids to live in the same world you did look after the world better lol im not just talking about global warming just like land fill etc. they cant keep land filling forever
global warming doesn't mean that everything goes warmer, but its means that climate is changing, probably where you live is colder than it was years ago, or it is less colder than is was years ago... Global warming is characterized as being something that changes the natural environment of the globe, even u seeing it you not believe it, when will you believe? when a wave colide againts some above sea countries? or when a place start being burned??
I have a strong feeling that we have already gone too far, and there is no turning back, unless we cull 80% of the population, and go back to hunter gathering. Things have gone into motion that cannot be undone. Evidence shows that the atmosphere will heat up, and then collapse into an ice age. The only variable is the amount of time it will take for this to happen. Humans, at the moment, are simply speeding up the inevitable.
Yeah, I'm a little drunk right now, but I'm gonna take a shot at this anyway. There's enough evidence to support the fact that CO2 levels have increased substantially since the Industrial Revolution. Should we just purse a "wait and see" attitude, or should we work on minimizing the potential hazards that are probably headed our way? An intelligent human would work to prevent any possible harmful outcome, but most of the human population is too ignorant or misguided.
When the ice is removed , then accient secrets will be revealed. All these things must happen in the end times. Do not be affraid, God will reveal himself more as we race to destruction.
the ice is perfectly white it looks awesome.. but sad at the same time.. i live in northern newfoundland (like 53 degrees north) and its dec 3rd here and we havent got any snow or ice yet.. we usually get some by early november! .. :(
These statements won't help, here are some scientific results: Zwally et al. (2006) obtained SRALT coverage for about 80% of the Antarctic ice sheet. The resulting balance of ice sheet mass included West Antarctic loss of 47 GT /yr and East Antarctic gain of 17 GT /yr this means an overall loss of 30 Gigatons ice per year.
vogelstraussenior: The antarctic shield is losing 13% of its mass each year since 2002 (measured by satellite Grace via gravitational analysis). I don't know where your information is from. Pictures of the antarctic ice doesn't show mass. Snowflakes are not ice shields.
It might, and it might not. Some people lie, and some try to tell the truth. You are in the middle of ocean full of theories. One scientist says global warming is not happening, another one says it is happening naturally, some others say we are causing it. Now it's people's choice which one to join.
Amazing and I love the music. I feel sad that this is happening and I try to turn off everything i am not using. Such a huge problem and it frudtrates me. I can not get over how think the ice is. Seeing that chunk on it side makes u realise
they say if Antarctica warms up we will die.

Yes, global warming is real HOWEVER our beautiful Earth has gone through these changes at least 5 times before in her entire history. Earth always sheds her "skin" every so many thousands of years. This is really nothing new, only that we are alive right now to witness it.
Stunning images, by the way, very well done!
LPF767 2 years ago 6
@LPF767 .............................................Yes, it is real, and for most of Earth's history it was completely natural. What many people don't realize is that the RATE at which we are witnessing it now is UNnatural. There are things that humans around the world are doing to cause this UNnatural rate of climate change.
trancetunes 5 months ago

We arent the main problem, and we dont have billions to spend correcting the problem like the governments, industry and money men behind the largest contaminations. iamazdavids 2 years ago
5953056 2 years ago 2

I am just observing and giving my theories based on media reports, I give links that have formed my hunches,
STEVEDIGIBOYtv 2 years ago
The illusion of a scientific debate was deliberately created. This was done to buy the big polluters more time, and they got about 10-15 years. In fact some of the scientists that came out against man made climate change, just happened to be the same ones that had came out and said that smoking does not cause cancer. The next century or so may not be a very fun on. A legacy left to future generations by corporate greed.

STEVEDIGIBOYtv 2 years ago
Global warming is solar warming, Mars ice vapourizing forming clouds and snow detected by Canadian scientist via Lidar system on Pheonix. Man contributes but solar cycle 23 continues and global hot spots increase, rainfall decrease and flooding/disapearance of islands off Alaska. Tax the sun, methane from Tundra and permafrost first then the poor.
STEVEDIGIBOYtv 2 years ago
Yeah, Mars is just like Earth... One can only take the simple example you give, so far. Man contributes, you can't tax certain systems (for example, the ones you mention). We need to try harder and do more. Taxing ourselves is one way depending on implementation as are a whole host of other options. We need to mix and match solutions.
alpsalish 2 years ago
WOW! All you commentators must be so smart and hold really advanced scientific degrees! Since 90+% of the other scentists in the world have determined that it is man-made and most scientific organizations have determined it is man-made.

It's less
Hangtime96 2 years ago
it's scientifically impossible for ice to melt in such a way, these straight cut melts have been caused by man, and I'm very curious right now, there is something bigger happening under the covers

Bernadotte01 2 years ago 2
Better yet, ignore the shrinking of every glacier across the world. Ignore the melting of the ice in Greenland. Ignore the collapse of an ice shelf that takes hundreds of years to produce and that has been around for hundreds of years at least. Everything's normal, right?
jgoemat 2 years ago 2
Greenland, like Antarctica has plenty of volcanic activity. Ambient temps that are below zero don't melt ice; it is the heat from the volcanic activity causing the melting from below the surface.

The closest volcano to the Wilkins shelf is in the Hudson Mountains, at 74.20S 99.25W. This shelf is at 69.45S 75.15W, about 1000km away, so its pretty unlikely. Wilkins is a shelf that has existed for hundreds of thousands of years according to scientists.

You can agree that the Earth has warmed without buying into the hysteria that man is responsible or has the ability to do anything about it. The sun heats the earth. The sun has gone thru a stretch of inactivity and global temperatures reflect that. If you want the Earth to cool stop blowing so much hot air.

Show us photos that prove the point. Prove the situation is unlike what ice shelves have always done. Facts please. Or did you attend college so the professors could tell you how you're suppose to FEEEEEL about things? Science has become the new religion - blind faith in the teachings of your priests.
55Dixon 2 years ago
Ok, facts please. Do you have information about similar collapses before say 2000?
ShaynaE4 2 years ago

Now the Arctic is melting at a rate of 36,000 square miles a year and the journey is finally possible.

global warming doesn't mean that everything goes warmer, but its means that climate is changing, probably where you live is colder than it was years ago, or it is less colder than is was years ago...

Humans, at the moment, are simply speeding up the inevitable.
camelapodo 3 years ago
Last chance to see by many accounts
wildshow 3 years ago
Yeah, I'm a little drunk right now, but I'm gonna take a shot at this anyway. There's enough evidence to support the fact that CO2 levels have increased substantially since the Industrial Revolution. Should we just purse a "wait and see" attitude, or should we work on minimizing the potential hazards that are probably headed our way? An intelligent human would work to prevent any possible harmful outcome, but most of the human population is too ignorant or misguided.
Thank you Exxon Mobile.
