@HauptmannAmerica The mask you see there is a type MBU-20/P. I believe they started issuing them to pilots in the early 2000's. Your probably thinking of the older MBU-12/p mask which was used from the mid 80's until the introduction of the current ones. Sorry if I bored you there with the technical terms. :D

@MetaliCanuck - Haha, Dude Im having the worst time ever with this video. Theres so much dead space in it, what ever tune I end up using, always ends up falling flat.
I made a couple other videos in teh meantime, that worked better. But fear not, I'll come up with something.
The windows glass is very durable. Thick too, the whole cockpit is one pod with a glass/plexi top and a solid metal base/controls, then the whole thing cranes into a jet. Can totally withstand tree impact at 650 mph after it jettisons.
That F-15C is from the 48th Fighter Wing of RAF Lakenheath. The BEST damn base in USAFE! That was a great place to be stationed. Great video, thanks for posting.

I have seen comments to the effect that an F-15 can fly with one of the vertical stabilizers missing or one of the elevators missing. Is this accurate? Also, what is the roll rate on that guy, about 270 degrees per second?
I have seen the video about the Israeli F-15 missing most of the wing.

I got egress training for riding along on my B-52 a few times....and the rule was, visor down for takeoff and landing...and during inflight refueling and in the low-level route. A pilot once told me, if you have a safety equipment, use it.
@MetaliCanuck I should also clarify that the more bulky helmets we had back in the '80s had two visors....a clear blast shield and a sun visor. The rules I'm talking about were "helmet on and at least the clear visor down." Having said that, I think the guy was taking a chance, doing a high performance routine at low altitude....where the birds are. But what the heck, right?
@JetMechMA its actually more dangerous doing a low show at low altitude, as we all know low shows involve mainly high speed passes and its always harder to avoid birds at higher speeds

@MetaliCanuck I had no idea that was the case. I always did love the F-15. To me it's the best looking fighter they ever made. The F-16 is equally good looking but if both were on the ramp outside base ops, I'd open the canopy on the F-15 and get in. But I like the eye candy of the F-18 in the cockpit.
@MetaliCanuck I used to get Aviation Week magazine and I never read that before. Never saw it in Air Force Flying Safety magazine either. The only thing I ever read about the F-15 talked about 7.33 Gs. When did it go to 11Gs? In all these videos I never hear the announcer mention 9g turn in anything but an F-16. I always thought the F-18 was a beautiful aircraft and our instructor always said, "If it looks purty, chances are it'll fly well." I never had much exposure to the F-18 like the F-16.
@JetMechMA the f15 if it didnt have the aoa limiters and other safety features could easily out turn a f16 in high gs' there was a pilot who went into a spatial dive/stall years back in a f15 and the plane hit 13.2 gs or something, the f16 is total fly by wire, it makes a big difference in day to day flying.

@teknobug I guess the 8yrs i spent flying a cf18 all their lessons on the f15 as an adversary were wrong hell even the oregon ng f15 pilots who taught us had no clue. first thing kid the f15 is capable of 11.5 gs in a combat scenario, the avg g limit set is usually 9 but i suggest you do a little more studying on g lock aka spatial stall a f15 hit 13.2 gs in a spin. the airframe is well capable you can find the video on youtube search for it.
@teknobug btw nice try promoting a russian su27, i dont care what some su27 did, if the us af wanted to smash that 12.3 g record they could easily with a f15 and the right pilot with big balls. I have seen comments to the effect that an F-15 can fly with one of the vertical stabilizers missing or one of the elevators missing. Is this accurate? Also, what is the roll rate on that guy, about 270 degrees per second?
I have seen the video about the Israeli F-15 missing most of the wing.
Great video. Would be better with audio from plane but one of the few videos I can tolerate with background music.

JM: He's the star of this stinkin video, isn't he? How can he be the star with his stinkin visor down? You're right though. I got egress training for riding along on my B-52 a few times....and the rule was, visor down for takeoff and landing...and during inflight refueling and in the low-level route. A pilot once told me, if you have a safety equipment, use it.

@JetMechMA ill also state you can find lots of vids of pilots with visors up online. Demo pilots have diff roes too boot. know it for a fact.

@MetaliCanuck I should also clarify that the more bulky helmets we had back in the '80s had two visors....a clear blast shield and a sun visor. The rules I'm talking about were "helmet on and at least the clear visor down." Having said that, I think the guy was taking a chance, doing a high performance routine at low altitude....where the birds are. But what the heck, right?

@JetMechMA its actually more dangerous doing a low show at low altitude, as we all know low shows involve mainly high speed passes and its always harder to avoid birds at higher speeds

@tapeote12 Well, the F-15 is rated to at least 7 Gs....I'm not sure if they ever brought it up to the 9 G rating like the F-16.

@MetaliCanuck I had no idea that was the case. I always did love the F-15. To me it's the best looking fighter they ever made. The F-16 is equally good looking but if both were on the ramp outside base ops, I'd open the canopy on the F-15 and get in. But I like the eye candy of the F-18 in the cockpit.

@MetaliCanuck I used to get Aviation Week magazine and I never read that before. Never saw it in Air Force Flying Safety magazine either. The only thing I ever read about the F-15 talked about 7.33 Gs. When did it go to 11Gs? In all these videos I never hear the announcer mention 9g turn in anything but an F-16. I always thought the F-18 was a beautiful aircraft and our instructor always said, "If it looks purty, chances are it'll fly well." I never had much exposure to the F-18 like the F-16.

@JetMechMA the f15 if it didnt have the aoa limiters and other safety features could easily out turn a f16 in high gs' there was a pilot who went into a spatial dive/stall years back in a f15 and the plane hit 13.2 gs or something, the f16 is total fly by wire, it makes a big difference in day to day flying.

@MetaliCanuck What are you doing now days, if you don't mind me asking? What do most fighter pilots do if they leave the game? I haven't read all your stuff here on Youtube. Thanks for all your informative replies. Also, does the F-15 have any fly by wire? I'm not familiar with F-15 systems at all....but it's always been my favorite fighter of all time. I was always disappointed in the cockpit of the F-15 though. Not much eye candy there. I taxi Airbus A320's and it has plenty of eye candy.

@MetaliCanuck C'mon 13,2G? Are you serious? Computer wouldn't allowed more than 9G at all. Pugacev did 12,3 G with Su-27 what was the record on operational aircraft, he have to switch off the control computer.

@teknobug I guess the 8yrs i spent flying a cf18 all their lessons on the f15 as an adversary were wrong hell even the oregon ng f15 pilots who taught us had no clue. first thing kid the f15 is capable of 11.5 gs in a combat scenario, the avg g limit set is usually 9 but i suggest you do a little more studying on g lock aka spatial stall a f15 hit 13.2 gs in a spin. the airframe is well capable you can find the video on youtube search for it.

@teknobug btw nice try promoting a russian su27, i dont care what some su27 did, if the us af wanted to smash that 12.3 g record they could easily with a f15 and the right pilot with big balls. Its funny how the F15 holds all the records the su27 has attempted millions of times defeating and have failed every time.

@Twistsayin i flew in the caf, i rode a cf18 for 8 years im out now into infantry these days, I did however get the opportunity to fly a F15 when we did an exercise with the Oregon NG years ago, i still prefer the f18 for high g maneuvers though
