Why are you commenting in a condescending tone? Its not like I asked him "in 10 words or less what is the big bang theory", and further more what gives you the right to judge me?
Go learn how to be a considerate person before you come here and a hypocrite.
No hypocisy here but perhaps my tone was a bit strong. After all, at least your mind is open enough to make these enquiries.
However, I asked you a question: Why ask a practitioner of one branch of science about another that's totally unrelated. You'll get better answers elswhere. As the great man himself said : " I debated astro physicists on this and they handed me my ass"
I have an observers right to judge you - You're on a public forum.
I wish there were more people in the world like you. When you're not sure about something you ask for an explanation from someone who you think is knowledgeable and who might point you in the right direction. My hat's off to you. Oh, and "I'm not gonna be a creationist about it." is a great phrase. I'll try to use it more in everyday speech. It might catch on. :)
All galaxies are moving away in a direction (unless influenced otherwise) - going back in time the galaxies go backwards and all known matter meets up at one point in space.
Please go check out this site... it's a very short read and should help you shed some light on the false terminology you're presenting.
"It's just a theory" = I don't know what I'm talking about. That's not meant to be condescending necessarily , but you really should have at least a basic understanding of these things before opening a dialogue on them.
Hello Sesstreets, I understand that you are interested in the benefits of religion for persons on various levels of the belief spectrum. In this case I strongly recommend you read some of Don Cupitt's work on theological "non-realism". Don is an Anglican priest who follows religious rituals and ethical standards without actually believing in the existence of metaphysical entities or gods.
sorry dude, you lost ALL credibility when you started using the word "theory". You obviously have no understanding of science or the principles that it's founded on. I'm really disappointed that AronRa didn't give you a more detailed (and frustrated) explanation of this.
Hey--he's not a scientist, give the kid some slack. Most people never NEED to know that Theory means something different in the academic context! All he needs to know is that "Hypothesis" is to science what "Theory" is to casual conversation, and "Theory" is to science what "A collection of Facts" would be in conversational English--if we had a single word for that...
You have already confused the colloquial usage of the word "theory" and the scientific usage of the word "theory."
I honestly would push now in the scientific community to change the term "theory" to something else so we can avoid people like sesstreets or creationists, I.Dists, ect. for confusing this stuff.
I don't think it's up to the scientific community to save people from their own ignorance. Theory is the word they ascribed to it in the first place. It's not their fault that the fucktards of the universe showed up and somehow came to understand it as something completely wrong.
Yeah, I'm surprised Aron didn't call you on your abuse of the word "theory", which does NOT necessarily imply uncertainty in science. When we study atomic theory or gravitational theory, it doesn't mean we're unsure about atoms or gravity.
Theories in science are not random guesses, they explanatory frameworks for facts and laws. Deism is pure imagination, unsupported by any evidence whatsoever, whereas Big Bang cosmology is SUGGESTED by observations, a logical inference made from known facts.
Ive got a feeling youre gonna hear this alot but youre confusing the comman use of the word "theory" with the scientific use of the Theory. A theory is a well tested model(or hypothesis) which can be tested over and over again proving the same results.
Scientists start with a hypothesis and then go about testing this hypothesis over and over and making any adjustments necessary. If the hypthesis doesnt work its abandoned.
Only after its been submitted for peer review does it become a "theory"

The Theory of Evolution for instance has been proven over and over again and observed so many times thats theres now four different catagories of how it happens.
Atomic theory you may say is proven, after all we have nuclear reactors and H-Bombs but it has massive holes in it(i believe)
But we also have hypothesis which are generally known as theories of something. Such as the theory of gravity and the Big Bang theory.
Don't be offended when I say this, but you don't understand what a scientific theory is. It can be disproven, sure, but at the same time, a scientific theory is one which has passed so much relentless testing and evidence gathering that it can't really be disproved without some impossibly monumental, nobel prize winning, discovery.
On your question about the big bang...if you wanna hear the evidence for the big bang from someone with more specialized expertise than AronRa,check out the "Astronomy Cast" podcast, episodes 5 and 6,which both deal with our evidence for the big bang.
Why are you asking a paleothologist on YouTube about The big bang theory?? No wonder you've heard of no evidence for it!
A theory wouldnt' be a theory without a cohesive amount of evidence pointing towards it
Read a damn book!

You do, just like I have the right to delete what you say. But i wont because that's being a douche.
Why? Because he knows his stuff and I'm allowed to ask him questions about his opinion on a subject matter that he obviously is well versed in.

If you didn't know already:
All galaxies are moving away in a direction (unless influenced otherwise) - going back in time the galaxies go backwards and all known matter meets up at one point in space.
This is concrete enough for me.

I commend you for asking questions.
Just make sure you ask the right ones and accept the right answers even if you don't like them.
Also, as many have pointed out before me, getting caught-up on what the word "theory" really means will do wonders.

When I heard about deism I thought it was the belief that the universe itself, and everything in it, is god.
Yeah, I'm also going to jump on the bandwagon of "Learn the scientific definition of theory"
Your definition of deism is an interesting one to consider though.
