Hey what about their education.... aren't we struggling to keep up right now with the rest of the world? How is this gonna help that ... with the hours of work and then go home do homework yeah this is just great... cutting grass.. raking leaves shoveling snow yeah not a bad thing ....why .. because they can do it on their time after they have done their homework!!!!
You are a moron. If you really think that... you are an idiot! I just gave you the reason he wants to pay them 1-30th what someone is getting right now to do the same job.
It don't exist now because the laws stop it you moron. Common sense tells me... that when you pay someone 1-30th what you pay now to me that is slavery!!!!!!!!!!
@eminem4436 yes. Making them illegal doesn't prevent people who want it from getting it. On top of that it gives drug dealers and cartels far more power. Make every drug legal and congratulations you've just wiped out every cartel in America.
@gamingeagle19 No matter what you legalize, the crime rate will always drop, simply because there are less crimes to partake in. Now, im guessing you are one of those people who are in favor of taxing the drugs, and if that's the case, there is an even better solution that deals with both drug users, and sellers. Every year, thousands and thousands of people are arrested for simple possession charges, instead of throwing them in jail, they should be fined thousands of dollars.
@eminem4436 no it wouldn't change anything besides less people being put in jail. There's no point throwing people in jail or even fining them thousands of dollars for something that at the end of the day is
1) Their personal choice and
2) Doesn't hurt anyone else
Legalize it and tax it just like we do with Cigarettes.
@gamingeagle19 But if we fine them thousands we will make more than we would taxing, we would dramatically lower the amount of money going to the drug trade, there would be more space in jails, and we would still maintain the idea that drugs are wrong.
Now for your point about the harm principle. It may not directly hurt, but it indirectly does. For example, if drugs, especially if ALL drugs were legalized, it would be harder for parents to keep there kids away from them.
@eminem4436 it would make money for our system BUT in order to avoid having to pay those fines they would still go to drug dealers in back alley's. It would barely make a dent in the market.
As for your last point, that's not true. Cigarettes and alcohol are also dangerous but not everyone does them. Why? Because we educate people on the dangers and 90% use their better judgement. That's all it takes with drugs. Education.
@gamingeagle19 But they ALREADY ARE going to dealers in back alleys and apartment buildings. The fines would deduct from the income of the users, and that would lead to less money for the dealers.
Also, although we all know cigarettes are bad for you, the amount of buyers is huge. The amount has also been falling, but at a VERY slow pace, resulting in the deaths of millions, even with people being educated.
And alcohol usage is not falling in North America
@eminem4436 yeah they go to drugs because it's illegal. Fines, jail time, it doesn't matter. It's illegal so they have to go to drug dealers to get it. If it's legal they won't have to. No one will have to. When's the last time you saw a back alley cigarette or alcohol dealer?
The majority of Americans do not smoke and the vast majority of Americans are not alcoholics. Education works perfectly fine.
@gamingeagle19 But if we fine the users more, they will generate a larger income to the government, and subtract from the amount the users buy.
Now if you want to talk education thats a different situation all together. Do you really not think people are being educated right now about the dangers of drugs? The ads are everywhere so if education was the key, the drug trade would not exist.
Now heres what would happen with you logic. (btw im not trying to sound like an asshole)
@gamingeagle19 If the drugs were being supplied by the government, and education stressed even more the dangers of drugs, then by your logic not many would use the now legal drugs, the government would be supplying these drugs at a loss, because there is no user base.
If it were put up to private companies, then those companies would be advertising drugs constantly to try and generate as many clients as possible, and that connot be what the people want AT ALL.
@eminem4436 people obviously want the drugs otherwise the drug market wouldn't be so powerful. Besides a big reason why these drugs are so dangerous is because the people who make it put all kinds of shit into it to get people addicted more and to save money. The pure drugs that they used to sell decades ago were much more tame.
@gamingeagle19 Although the dealers, RARELY, alter the drug, it is dangerous either way. Just because you could by crack from the store does not mean it is now safe. It will always be dangerous. I would rather have only the idiots start looking for these drugs, then having everyone in society tempted. And dont say education is key, because there are still users wanting the drugs now.
@eminem4436 well they DO alter the drug. But regardless all kinds of people do them both smart and dumb. and no we DON'T educate people. We just tell them to say "no" which doesn't teach them anything. And even without proper education most people still don't use drugs.
@gamingeagle19 We do educate people of the dangers of drugs. We learn how all of these drugs can damage brain cells and kill you. My 12 year old cousin knows this. Education is not the key. People will always be drawn to doing stupid things, so we might as well make money from it (massive fines), while keeping our morailty intact (keeping them illegal).
@eminem4436 really? Because up until High School all I ever heard was "just say no" which teaches jack shit and if anything makes people want it to it more.
We can make just as much money taxing because EVERYONE would have to pay them as opposed to a junkie paying a fine every once in a while if and when they get caught. And it destroys the drug cartels. It's a win/win situation. You will always have people doing stupid stuff. It's just human nature.
@gamingeagle19 Did u just say "everyone would have to pay"? Meaning everyone would be buying these drugs if they were legal? That's terrible. And if u meant every user; a large fine would compensate for the users that get away.
@eminem4436 I meant everyone who buy it obviously. And it would have to be a pretty big damn fine to cover everyone getting away with it. Of course that's assuming they could even pay it. We ARE talking about junkies here.
@gamingeagle19 again, we catch thousands and thousands of users every year that we could fine. It would save money if we fine them instead of sending them to jail, and it keeps more money flowing. But I want to know why you believe they should be legal.
@eminem4436 I've given plenty of reasons. Simply fining them would only fix the overcrowded prisons issue. That's it. Making it flat out legal would fix ALL of those problems. It's just that simple.
@gamingeagle19 Fining them would solve to jail issue, decrease to amount going to dealers, get more money to the economy than a small sales tax would, wouldn't provide conflicting messages about drugs (saying they are bad, but having them avaliable in stores), and keep society's moral compass intact.
how? where else would they go to get what are still illegal drugs?
"get more money to the economy than a small sales tax would"
An occasional junkie getting caught and paying a few thousand dollars or an entire country with at least a couple of million of people buying paying several dollars each every single time they buy some. Do the math. It's not hard.
"wouldn't provide conflicting messages about drugs"
@gamingeagle19 with less money for users to spend, there would be less going to dealers, you said that educated people wont buy them, meaning there will not be an increase in drug sales, meaning $0.10 from a buy (or whatever the tax is), wont be anything compared to $3,000 or higher fine (remember, we find THOUSANDS of users EVERY year). Also, the conflicting message is the same thing we already have with cigarettes.
@eminem4436 you think less money will stop people? They are already being thrown in jail. A few thousand dollar fine isn't going to scare them off.
10 cents? Really. I think you need to rethink that. Seriously. Millions of people buying drugs at a tax rate of several dollars each and every time just like we do with cigarettes FAR, FAR outweighs thousands of fines a year. It's not rocket science. Are you intentionally being thick?
@gamingeagle19 You said there would NOT be millions of users. And a really high tax WILL make people by black market drugs, my grandmother used to do that with cigarettes.
@eminem4436 I said the vast majority of people wouldn't and don't take them. There are 300+ million people in this country. A few million isn't even 1 percent. Dude you seriously suck at math.
and your grandmother bought black market cigarettes? I'm not sure whether I should laugh or cry.
I'm done talking about this. You are being a complete fool. You barely address my points and just keep repeating if we fine them everything will be A-okay.
@gamingeagle19 but i have been addressing your points. In Canada, where I live, 70% of the price of cigarettes is tax. So there are many people who buy black market cigarettes because the tax is so high. That means the tax would have to be low.
@eminem4436 fine.you're gonna need proof for that one. I would love to read about a cigarette cartel. I really would. You do realize that there are plenty of numbers between 0 and 100 right like say 25.
On average we tax 50 cents per packet and the nation as a whole brings in about 20 million a year from it. And considering how expensive drugs are now a higher tax would be a god send to these people. that's all I'm gonna say on the matter.
@eminem4436 there are plenty of things that are perfectly legal and socially acceptable that are bad for you. Beer, cigarettes, painkillers, heavy narcotics for medicinal purposes.
"and keep society's moral compass intact."
making them legal would not make everyone turn into a junkie. That's a stupid argument.
@gamingeagle19 this would bring much more money into the system, decrease the amount of drugs being purchased, and still maintain the idea that drugs are bad.
At my highschool, there are kids who do janitorial work for the school and they don't get paid but it is part of a class and they get credits for it. Also at my local taco bell the hiring age is 14.
