  • OMG I had this done 6 years ago and never saw how the did it !!!

  • Ugh????.... Fuck no!!!!

  • so is it like cleaning the vitrious humor ?

  • I have had this procedure done recently. I was not asleep, but I was given Atavin in pill form to relax me. The procedure is not painful, although it is somewhat uncomfortable due to wetness and pressure.

  • Who in the world put an age restriction on this. I would show it to my six year old no problem. Please please remove the restriction, it is completely stupid.

  • OMG..!! awesome. great job, doc. clean eye. welcome to the world..

  • awesome, the eye is super clean now.

  • hmm very interesting video! thanks for the post! :)

ive always thought that our tapedum lucidum is a horrible color lol i wish it was blue color like the one a sheeps eye has

  • That is fucked up...I better not get Cataracts, I'll live with it lol

  • u r the great doctors....plz tell me if someone have strabismus and also cataract .can both surgeries can be done at same time?

  • @MFaheemAkbar

Those surgeries are usually done SEPARATELY with the cataract, if visually significant, done FIRST. This way, that eye will see better and have a better chance of staying "straight" or "single binocular" as we ophthalmologists like to say.

    Good luck,

    Dr. P

  • @richardbprince i will have m cataract surgery in two months and im scared to death,,my both eyes had cataracts...and im diabetic...

  • u r the great doctors....

  • @MFaheemAkbar

    u r too kind...

  • u r too kind...

  • do they put you to sleep before this i hope so!

  • Yes, with sedation.

  • @TheCkfeister

    yes with sedation

  • What an inappropriate choice of music for cataract surgery video !

  • anybody else's eye water the whole time watching this?

  • @Warnerator I eye watered X*****O

  • Hey Dr. P. My eye sight isnt the greatest in the world and i was looking up the typs of different eye correction surgerys, lasic and PRK, and they all seem to have horrible side effects and some peoples eyes become worse afterwords. What are the risks of this type of surgery, and am i even able to get it just having very poor vision? I know that it takes weeks to heal, but after a certin number of weeks could i rub my eyes and such?

  • What's up with the stupid music? Sonic pollution.

  • Is cataract surgery also for people with astigmatism? This look really scary but overall it's better than wearing a -10 power contact lenses. Without glasses or contacts I can't even see...if my glasses were to be misplaced ... I have to use my hand to feel every where around me as if I was completely blind.

  • Yes, cataract surgery can successfully and permanently neutralize (eliminate) both myopia and certain amounts of pre-existing astigmatism with the use of specialized lens implants which replace the natural lens (catararct) from your eye. Permanently as well!

  • whoa! thtas amazing!... thumbs up for five :-)

  • So can they see after this is done?

  • Yes! Not perfectly, of course, as it takes a few days to heal but there is definately some level of vision immediately after surgery --- oftern better right after then 4-6 hours later when the normal amount of post-operative swelling starts to appear!

  • Does the person see everything that is going on

  • Good question: NO! The patient sees some bright lights during the procedure and feels NOTHING! All in all, a very patient-friendly non-invasive procedure.

  • Absolutely amazing! I just had both eyes done, and only a week apart. My life has changed remarkably! Although the ops only lasted 20 mins or so, I am glad I didn't watch this vid before the surgery :-)

Miracles have nothing to do with this, but everything to do with the skill and dedication of the wonderful scientists, doctors and hospital staff behind this technology. Thank you, all of you!

  • You are quite welcome! We, as surgeons, are quite lucky to be in a position to restore and GIVE BACK vision through the simple yet sophisticated and elegant cataract operation ---- an operation that while fast is a result of 40 years of technological developments that got us to where we are now!

    Dr. P

  • Wow I had this done yesterday and its quite horrific to watch ( although not too bad to go through TBH ). I am a power lifter and I am desperate to know how soon I can get back into serious lifting but my surgeon didnt really tell me other than know lifting or bending for two or so weeks. I doubt he realises how heavy the weights I move are though LOL. Can you lift really heavy weights once two weeks healing are up or are my heavy lifting days in my past? I am 44 BTW

  • don't mess up what will probably be a great result --- power lifting ---- wait a full 3 weeks due to the intense nature of your sport with straining and valsalva, etc.; normal lifting restrictions are just a week at most; good luck!

    Dr. P

  • HOLY CRAP !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • How long does it take to become an ophthalmologist? Something my nephew is so interested in doing? He's 15 & has always been the smartest student in both schools he's attended.Does he have to study medicine to perform this type of surgery or am I asking a silly question? If i am..I apologise.I would be so proud of him to be able to help ppl in this way.Thanx 4 the wonderful video & 4 having a careing soul. You're a HERO!!! God bless you! Btw-He did'nt view this video..He's in Ky & I'm in Fl.

  • @SmokinMo11

It takes 4 years of college; 4 years of medical school and 4-5 years of post-graduate residency training and fellowhsip. It is clearly worth it to attain the skill sets necessary to restore vision. Good luck and I'm glad you enjoyed the video!

    --Dr. P

  • I had my cataracts removed in March and May 2010, both under local anaesthetic drops. I had lost 80% sight in both eyes and am now without specs for the first time in 50 years (I am now 60). It's a miracle!

  • oye ye kya hai bache ki jaan loge aisi video dikha ke.......

  • hmm, i would like even more to become on ophthalmologist. this is great (thanks for posting :DD) by the way, is this the "usual" procedure? or is this your "special" method, Dr. P? thanks

  • @tonyqhub5 This is my standard, routine cataract surgery technique. Good luck with your future career plans.

    --RBP

  • Before I had surgery, I watched this video several times, and it really helped me get over my "nerves" about having the operation. It has been a year and a half since my second operation, and I'm still seeing fine with NO GLASSES. In fact, my vision is better that 20/20 in one eye. Thanks so much for posting this. I'm grateful to you for it.

  • You are quite welcome! I'm glad it provided you with some reassurance pre-operatively!

    --Dr. P.

  • Yuuumm! Jelly :D

But rlly... Iam freaking ot here! 0.0

  • Amazing video. Surgeon must be a very smooth pool player!

  • its easy. I've done this with a cow once...

  • lol @ 4:55 cleaning the winshield xD LOL

  • say what . awake o gaah. i probably might not have the surgery fck that

  • it is gross at 2:10

  • well you eyes are red!!! 1:23

  • you must have the stomach to have a job like this

  • I had this operation and I was awake...it is a blur though because the face is covered in a cloth except the eye they are operating on. This is then immobilised. Even so looking at this is freaky...but at the time it is ok - then again I had a sedative...

  • will the patience be able to see? i think not but... i dunno

  • If he wouldn't been able to see, then what's the whole point of the surgery?

Yes he is able to see.

  • whats the silicon thing for??? O_O

  • its a lens not silicon and the person is completly awake for this

  • No, you arent awake. People would have freak out sessions if they were.

  • there are ppl that are left awake and they dont freak out cause they cant see any thing other then a blur

  • my mom was awake she didnt freek out she didnt feel it they numb it

  • yack yack xD

  • why the hell hes eyes are red!?

  • camera

  • my dog just had cataract surgery.

  • I had that surgery

  • u were awaken?

  • my eyes hurt after watching the video! ouch!

  • that,s modern cataract surgery with phaco imalsification the saffest surgery & offcource great result

  • Very interesting. It would be great if you could give a play-by-play of what is being done.

  • What you see is phaco-emulsification by untra sonic probe and chopping of the old lens. Then removal of the old lens by suction. Polishing of the inside of the lens capsule. Then insertion of the intra ocular implant (replacement lens) down a hollow needle. The implant unwraps like a tiny carpet, then tiny spring like things postion it accurately. Six weeks later the tissue in your lens capsule grows around it and fixes it in place.

  • amazing

  • wtf..i got chills. seriously. someone piking ur eye, with blades a shit. good thing he does see that. when u dont see ur cool. i know doctor knows what he does, but still this looks so disturbing, it looks like ur gona be fked afteer that..

  • Someone told me that there are some risks..You can become blind..

If it is true... Can anybody give me a percentage of the risks of the loss of sight?

  • I had cataract surgery when I was three...wrote a paper on it my junior year in high school and read somewhere that cataract surgery is considered one of the safest surgeries a person can go through. Of course, there are always risks, but from what I understand, not many.

  • They told me 1 in 100 chance that sight would be worse. 1 in 1000 chance that sight would be seriously impaired, and 1 in 10,000 chance of total blindness. There's risks with any surgical procedure, of course, but the alternative is gradual blindness anyway.

  • well when someone is messing around with your eyes like that there wil always be room for mistake but it all really depends on how professional your doctor is

  • Thanks for your answer :)

  • does anyone know the name of the song ??

  • AAAHHH WTF!

  • ew ew ew ew goddammit why the fuck would you put this shit up on youtube

    fucking people aaa

  • dont watch it dumbass

  • Because some poor dumb bastard may need this surgery and would like to know what the H he's in store for. Now you get it?

  • when it was over i was like ''Thank god'' lol

  • Hei there' could you give me some advice cos i'll be undergoing such eye cataract operation soon. so, what prolly would be the best advice you could spare wit me? thanx!

  • Trust your eye surgeon and don't worry.

The benefits are outstanding. The discomfort only really lasts the evening post op - a bit gritty.. At the end of the following day you should be seeing well and feeling fine. Don't watch this Youtube video. It will not help.

  • You will feel absolutely nothing. All you will see is bright lights shining into your eye and here a few strange noises of the machinery. You will not see surgical instruments approaching your eye. All you have to do is relax and hold still. It lasts 20 minutes or so, sometimes less, that's all.

  • Comment removed

  • The best advice i could give you would be that you will be fine! :D I have sat through many of these procedures and at the end of it the patients think wow and don't quite believe the procedure is over! :P

  • I've just had my second eye done, and you are fully conscious for the entire procedure. It isn't pleasant, but it sure beats going blind. After wearing glasses for 45 years, now I don't need them any more as when they replace your lens, your distance vision is corrected completely. Worst part is having your eyeball injec ted with anaesthetic.

  • You should have had "conscious sedation" like I did, with Versed. I sort of knew what was going on but couldn't have cared less. I just felt happy and relaxed, and the whole procedure was about the easiest thing I have ever had done.

  • does anybody knows the name of the song? :/

  • I'm not a doctor, but from 2 weeks from now I will start medicine school. Is this pacient's cristalin removed and a new artificial non-cataractus one put in? Please tell me.

  • Nice GLOWING EYE NOW she has.

  • i she gona be blind after that??

  • Actually, cataracts are what make you go blind. This surgery is meant to correct that blindness.

  • hahaha!!!

  • she is knocked out. if u open ur eyes when ur asleep its gunna look the same. it would be inhuman to make a person watch u stab their eye

  • What type of lens are the best for cataract surgery?Restor or others?

  • think about it guys, If they make it so it is painless but a lil twitchy, and only like 6 - 10 minutes, you will be soon done and after awhile youll say it`s like you can barely remember, I am sure you can but still ya know what I mean.

  • born blind or terrible accident? Either way I feel sorry for you and your sister :(

  • its sharingan! ejheheeh fuk i cant do it

  • i dont blame u man id have to be knocked out haahaha

  • I was knocked out in my cataract surgery

  • I find medicine REALLY interesting, and can watch stuff like this, took biology, and could have gone to med school (But for lack of money, AND I found that I'm REALLY squeamish) but these surgeons are someone to look up to. Honestly I would have made ONE cut and then... FAIL!! Would have messed up I know it... wow this is amazing.

  • what the fuck is up with all that red shit in her eye???

  • Thats the cataract u dumbass

  • WTH was in her eye????!!!!!!!!

  • they are sucking out the natural lens, replacing it with a plastic one. They do it because the natural lens is damaged, probably after several cases of iridocyclitis.

  • Oh thanks. I wasn't sure what that was because it seemed to be squirming all over the place.

  • from now on i will love my eyesT_T

  • me 2

  • hehehehe ^_^

  • OMG IT WAS A WORM

  • so cool

  • What the hell is up with the music?

  • what does this do?

  • Fascinating professionalism.

  • those guys are really amazing....

i can work on computer system..

    but not on human body!!!!!

they are the only people that we can call when we have eye problems...

    they are hero!!!!

  • is it hurt?

  • Daaaa afcource it hurts that y they give the sleeping pills

  • they keep pinning the eye with that metal piece doesn't it hurt? plus someone told me after the surgery there eye keeps drying up

  • para que sirve esta operacion ?

  • 5:57 looks like a face ♥

  • this looks fun to do lol :)

  • floria a Dios por estos grandes hombres que dan su vida por ayudar a otro alababo sea el nombre de Dios

  • I fell his/her pain... T___T

  • I just had it done yesterday, and on my other eye 10 days before that, the only discomfort is that for about 2 days afterward it feels like there's something in your eye, like sand or a bug or something, and you can't touch or rub it.

  • Fear the re eye of doom for he will make your xbox360s go wild

  • wow that is disgustingly gross.

  • OMG!!! this is for real??! please tell me not!!

  • It is for real.

  • he have ow red eye ?

  • Modern science rocks!

  • is that person asleep i hope but that would be wierd if after that you saw the whole operation in your dreams

  • Usually you are not asleep. Most often dope you up pretty good, to the point where you really have no idea what's going on, which is what they did in my father's case. In my case they did put me completely under, a fact for which I was very thankful, as you can see this procedure is not for the squeamish.

  • Zombie eye!

  • omg T_T IT MAKES MY STOMACH CHURN

  • my mom just got this today. no pain! great results!

  • lol oh man this is what i am going to be doing...

  • It's not so scary, I just had my second eye done yesterday, and think of the new way you'll look at the world.

  • HURTS TO WATCH :>

  • Actually, it's not a fungus, it's either a genetic or progressive defect, or mark in the lens, etc, which is maintained.

  • It's peroxide...

  • Read description: topical anesthesia! Watching it hurts though O.O

  • oooh! really great video!

  • think about what I get to look forwards to I have to get BOTH eyes worked on! an I don't want to have to look at the guy poking shit in my eyes! but If I want to be able to see stuff clearly again because perscription glasses arn't going to help me anymore until I have this operation!

  • 4:47 that is not a real eye......

  • but for the other 6:56 seconds it is? XD

  • funny....

  • Do they not give you anesthesia or at least sedatives? I had a cornea transplant a year ago and I was awake, however on strong sedatives. Now I have to get a cataract surgery because the steroid eye drops caused cataracts.

  • yes it herts very very bad cuzz your awake when they do it

  • thats just insane but i guess it works

  • can you still see after this?

  • Without blood! That's excellent! Me too havelearned by you all the moments of the surgery!

  • 0:58 dude you just like destroyed it xD

It just seemed to worse from there.

Wtf were you GIVING the person a cataract?! LMFAO

3:15 Ew what the piss its moving xDD

    Nicely done.

    A+ on obliteration :D

    But good clean ending :D

  • "Wtf were you GIVING the person a cataract?! LMFAO"

waaahahahaa! LMAO I was like "WTF is he doin? He's destroying his eye"

  • I had this done on my right eye three weeks ago and on my left eye yesterday. It was painless. But I wouldn't watch this until AFTER I had the surgery!

  • ..nice surgery..but i think the whole inside of the eye is almost sucked up..??

  • I just has this surgery two days ago. They make a small incision in the lens capsule, remove the lens (where the cataracts are) and then put in an artificial lens. No - they don't suck out the whole inside of the eye.

  • so that's the lens they're taking out at 4:15?

  • were you awake???

  • yes, there awake during the procedure.

  • did it hurt like hell???

  • The surgery was painless, but my pupil was dilated wide open so the overhead operating theatre light caused a little discomfort when it shone directly into my eye

  • So the whole time during the operation, you were wide awake??

  • no it said in description they used anesthesia

  • Whats the song please tell me

  • It's really beautiful.

  • oh this is fucking torture

  • my mom got this she said it was painless but it did irritate

  • thats grose!!!icky!

  • that's so cool!

  • *shoots self in the head*

  • what is that glowing

  • it's a hamster toast

  • For those yelping away, cataract surgery is painless. Anesthesia will be applied before the surgery to numb your eye. As cataract refers to the clouding of the crystalline lens in your eye, ultrasound pulses are sent to break this lens and later vacuuming the remains out and replacing it with a new artificial lens. However, the artificial lens is poorer in its ability to accomodate than the original lens.

    -Student from Optometry

  • still kinda hurts a little, only the tugging though

  • Nice musical bg

  • my eye is starting to hurt...

  • So all you see is lights?

  • I was awake and just saw lights. The only thing I felt was a cold sensation at one point.
