Being anti-torture isn't liberal or conservative. It's being pro-American. People from across the political have opposed torture policies for centuries in America.

Ask any conservative if they support torture, and you will typically get one of these two responses:

1) yeah, it's fun, I mean, uh, necessary

2) no, you're one of those liberals who thinks harsh interrogation is torture, aren't you?

A conservative favors tradition. A liberal is anyone who is not conservative. It's possible you are right, TruthSeeker24, and the people who support torture are a new type of liberal, one that wouldn't fit well with either ideology.

Any conservative? Ron Paul and Chuck Baldwin are conservatives and they oppose torture more than some liberals. The only people you're talking about are mostly neo-cons who aren't real conservatives at all. A conservative is bigger than a person who favor tradition. It's a person who like individual liberty, privacy, life, and being against oppressive government.

That depends. If the Republican Party of today is conservative, then "small government" arguments are a joke. I am not putting forth my own personal opinions here, but Republican foreign policy, the so called "moral majority", and the Patriot Act are Big Government at its worst.

Yeah, I know Obama will back down and support that stuff too. It's important to know the difference between a "liberal" politician, and an actual liberal.

Certainly, not every Republican is a conservative. Therefore, both Republicans and Democrats have ideological contradictions themselves. Also, real conservative oppose the Patriot Act for numerous reasons. That is why numerous people in the mainstream media would present some of the most inarticulate people as "conservatives" or "liberals" when they are neither.
