  • Nice job, it's still pretty complicated but it sounds right.

  • Hey do you do weddings? You're awesome! I'm a big DMB fan so I really want this song to be my first dance. I'm about to book someone through a production company but I may have to hire you instead. :)

  • @wens4136 I DJ weddings but I could prolly do some acoustic songs too if that's what you were looking for. Are you around the New England area?

  • @DubleJMcFly My wedding will be June of next year in Northern NJ. An accoustic guitar/vocalist is exactly what i want for my cocktail hour plus first dance. You should really be singing and playing at weddings. You're awesome!

  • @wens4136 Thanks! If you're seriously interested in working on something, send me a message and we can talk.

  • You are truly amazing. I absolutely LOVE this song.

  • @ilygood Hey thanks!

  • You are truly amazing. I absolutely LOVE this song.

  • Great job! I have to learn this for a wedding ceremony by myself sunday. Although I like DMB, I kinda don't get his rhytm and chords or his phrasing. For some reason, I was able to understand it now- Thanks man!

  • Pretty good man imah try and play it that way mabe ill get it to

  • I was there! Awesome concert!

  • very good job sir! did not expect you it to sound that good. wish i could sing haha

  • Thanks for sharing! Nice Job!

  • Hartford this year was unreal

  • you sound awsome!!!!!

  • awsome cover pal !!!!!

  • shits not that hard to play the right way just watch dave and tim play it llike usual dave's part is easy and tim and carter and everyone else make it a complicated song.. kinda like why i am

  • His voice is awful....if you think that's good, then you don't know music at all...

  • Nice Job... would love for you guys to check out my covers on my page... thanks so much !

  • Thanks for your great tutorial. With practice I hope to play like you do.

  • "really complicated as usual" - haha. amen. dmb is my fave band / dm musician as the name may suggest but man the dude pisses me off alot with the way he plays. then again, that is one of the reasons he's the man. haha. really cool version dude, i'm gonna see if i can learn your version.

  • @dmbfanmass im sorry but i just have to say that if you think that dmb is complicated music then ur lying to urself.. dave has a very unique style of playing but i wouldnt say that the majority of his songs are really that complicated... dmb is my favorite band always will be but "really complicated as usual" is definately not the best way to describe

  • @liveforlax19 I agree....I started playing guitar a few years ago and Dave is what I started out playing. His stuff is cool but super easy. Having said that, I've grown out of the DMB scene and started going for bands that I believe to be much MUCH more dirty than Dave....For all you avid DMB fans out there, I've been there, don't limit your musical experience, Take my screen name for example.

  • Good job Jeff...

  • really cool version, i was having trouble with the chorus cause the tab I was using had you up at like the 12th fret and muting strings and stuff, but this is much easier. the only thing, I think when you play the Em chord in the chorus, it sounds better if you play the Em with your pinky on the first string, third fret. idk what this would be called, but personally I think it sounds more like the original. either way, great cover.

  • @daviec02 Thanks for the thoughts!

  • @dublejmcfly

your voice is more of a avett brothers. if you like them your voice is pretty much a great fit

  • Wow- way way cool. Love your guitar playing and your take on this song. My band has learn this song for a wedding in May and I LOVE the way you simplied it but made it sound amazing!! Rock on!

  • <3 amazing

  • absolutely lovely <3

  • You rocked it! Thanks for the help figuring this one out!

  • I did not expect that voice. You are amazing.

  • Awesome job... love this song <3

  • Great job. Great song. Woot Hartford. Pretty cool that DMB will open their 2010 tour there. Anyway, well done.

  • @Toader1974 Oh that's cool. I didn't know that about Hartford. Thanks for the support!

  • BADASS!!! you did AWESOME BRO!! im just learning the guitar and im hoping i can get this good! i heard this song for the first time during the grammys not to long ago and i fell in love with this song! it just makes you feel good!! good job again man!

  • You not only played it great, even though it's simpler, but you sang great!! Dave doesnt honestly have the, I don't know, "softest" voice really, but your voice was great! You made the song sound even less intimidating... :) NICE!

  • @acornoddity Glad to hear you liked it!

  • Mindblowing !! Listened this album the whole day through and i thank my lucky stars that i found this full album for free download at DownloadMusic/./im ,remove the slashes .

  • @harley693463 Dude, don't spam my songs. It's wack

  • ur amazinggggg ;)

  • @BERNZIE41 thank you!

  • I like that song a lot and your rendition is really good. Thanks for posting.

  • @brownout47 lol yea, no one asked for your sarcasm :p

  • HARD to play... you did a GREAT job on both singing and guitar!!!

  • thats not how you play it

  • @wynnewoodswim08 well its a good thing you were listening at the beginning of the video

  • Very good man, love this song and using you as a visual guide and the tabs I've got it down! Thanks for the help keep them coming! One suggestion would be Stay or Leave if you haven't already done that? Great acoustic song, take care!

  • This is awesome, dude. Good job!

  • good shit dude

  • bro!!! this is great! i sing a little. it would be sweet if we could somehow do something together!

  • real good could you give me the chords

  • check out the video response I posted. I think that should esplain what you need to know.

  • Great song.. great cover! :)

  • but I usually think it sounds pretty slick to double the third. Example: on the D of the chorus play a D in the bass and two F#s (Tabwise would be 6th string 10, 5th string 9, 3rd string 11). I don't know how you would but let me know if you think that works for you. PS sorry for the stupid long post

  • Wow man, this is a lot, haha. I'm gonna have to look over all you wrote and officially respond later. Buuut, the one thing I can say now is that I had only heard the song for the first time one day before I recorded this vid, so it was new to me and there were no tabs online yet so I just came up with this version by ear. I know it's far from spot on.

  • Yeah I think that's damn good for one listen. I was doing probably the same thing you were doing after I saw them at the gorge. But it took me a few listenings to the recording before (I think) I got exactly what was going down.

  • Not bad, man. Not bad at all.

  • The other stuff is pretty typical Dave only playing two notes (the root and the 3rd an octave up) for all of those chords which is actually harmonically less complicated than you are playing it.

  • Instead try playing an A w/ your pointer finger (as your doing) and the next lowest F# with your pinky. Than move the A voice up to the B (played w/ your ring finger) and the F# voice up to a G (Played w/ your pinky). In tab speak that would be 3rd string 2nd fret and 4th string 4th fret and then 3rd string 4th fret and 4th string 5th fret. Believe me, it is not much harder and (to me) sounds better, as I think it is accurate.

  • You say this is a simplified version but its not really simpler than how Dave wrote it, its just slightly different. The difference in the main riff is that you are playing an A and a high D and the A voice moves up to a B.

  • lovely.. plus this is my favorite song from DMB... :) you did wonderful :)

  • Thanks Twilight. And GeekRex too!

  • Great job of picking this up so quickly...nice performance!

  • I love <3 it ;]]. I'm gonna try it out.....nice voice BTW.

  • Thank you for the comment! Hope you can figure it out. Check out my video response if you need some more help.

  • Dave does it better dude.

    O_O

  • I could have told you that.

  • u play more songs of Dave?

  • I do, but nothing else posted on youtube

  • this is a nice unique version of this song, especially when the chords came in, and your voice gives it something different too, good job!

  • could u also send me a tab or something?

  • Check out the tutorial I just posted, hopefully that will help. Glad you liked it and thanks for the comments.

  • you are amazing...and gorgeous...My heart sank when i heard you sink this song...great job.

  • girl or gay?

  • nicee man. i play it a different way but i think i like ur way better

  • your hot lol kthanks

  • Thanks ;)

  • You aren't playing it correctly.

  • It's a simplified version, so no, it's not exactly like Dave plays it. That's why I say in the beginning, "I'm doing just a simplified version".

  • you do very good on this video but um you need to get better with you highs and lows

  • AWESOME! amazing man! great job!

  • hey i love the cover!and i really want to learn this song so could you post something so i couldlearn it?you play it more simple than what other people have on their tutorials:)thanks!:)

  • I'll work on something for you and put it up in the next few days. thanks for the comment!

  • Awesome cover man! Thank you

  • Love this song and didn't think anyone else could do justice to Dave but WOW! This is REALLY nice -- I enjoyed it very much. Great voice, great guitar. Thanks for posting!

  • Glad you enjoyed it and thank you very much for all the compliments. Dave is king.

  • Respect!

Although it isn't an exact copy, you're having fun giving it youre own spin!

But try opening you're troath when singing, or dare to do that ;) I think it will sound better :)

    greetings from the netherlands!

    Karin

  • Thanks for the advice Karin and thanks for listening! I've been to the netherlands once and it was awesome. Dank u wel.

    I think that's right, haha.

  • good job man. quick question. when you learn or write a song on guitar with vocals, do you learn one and then the other or both at the same time, because i can play all daves stuff on guitar and sing most of it decently, but when i try both at the same time i screw one of the two up. any tips??

    thanks

  • Just takes practice man. Combining singing and playing is much harder than doing just one of the two, until you get used to it. I usually learn the guitar part first and then add lyrics, but it might be different for everyone. Eventually you'll be able to separate the vocals and guitar parts in your head.

  • one thing i would suggest is starting to sing and play guitar with an artist easier than dave. his chord progressions are often complex and often times the rhythms of his vocals are difficult as well.

i started with jack johnson when i was trying to learn to sing and play the guitar at the same time. his chord progressions and lyrics are much simpler (though still a lot of fun). but if your not a jj fan, pick another artist. start simple and work your way up to dave.

    hope this helps, enjoy!

  • I'm pretty sure the Chorus is D, A, G, D not Em...just saying it sounds better

  • I'm 99% sure it's Em. G works, but it's not the progression he uses.

  • good job keep playing

  • How do you play the first part?

  • Love the sox hat.

    And the song.

The first time I heard this I thought, "Instant classic."

  • hey man this my favorite song from his new cd. well done.. how are you playing the part at 3:40 i really wanna learn this song

  • um, it's kind of hard to explain. I've got my figures in the bar C chord position, but I hammer on the low note in the C chord and then slide (playing all the strings in the chord) up to the D chord and repeat that 3 times. Does that make any sense? If not I can try to explain again in a better way.

  • thank you!

  • Please tell me how you played that Chorus?? what two chords do you play after playing the D... Is it A and then what? then back to D... so your chorus is D,A,?,D

please help out? from a struggling wanna-be dave guitarist. appreciate it

  • It's D, A, Em, D. Let me know if you've got any more questions. Em is played the same as the E, just remove your pointer finger from the G# on the G string.

  • Are you from Union, New Jersey?

  • Nope, I'm from Fort Ann, NY. But I went to Union College and my fake ID said I was from Union NJ, so almost. haha

  • nice man

    keep singing

  • Jeff, that was very good. That good after one week? Amazing.

  • your songs always sound good

  • nice job bro..singing not best..but tough song to sing

  • very nice job....thanks for putting this on here with the simplified, but still good sounding, chords.

    hoop

  • nice job man
