@JonathanRichardPage yeah, english is not my mother tongue either so i can't hear the words (well i doubt english natives can either:)). just wait for a while, it's all we can do:)
this is like the most "standard" song Opeth has ever written.. I knew how to play it instantly. I could tab it if I wasn't that lazy. :( Gonna do a cover perhaps. Great song, won't get out of my head!
@runningshoe1 im a diehard fan of the normal opeth style, but i think this album was friggin great. a tad excessive on the progginess at some points but still amazing.
@MrPragalv ...What the fuck?! U mad bro?.. Btw, I'm not sure I understood correctly since, to be honest, I can't read properly whay you wrote. I mean, u dont rite prprly
I have seen Gentle Giant many times, and as soon as I heard Opeth, I could see that they had 70's Prog Influences. PFM were superb as well, When the world became the world. I think Opeth had influences from them as well. Opeth ARE one of my favourite bands though.
I love Opeth so much, they are such progressive masters! check out a really dark progressive band called Bardiet. They have a free E.P entitled As the Light Fails which is available for free download on bandcamp. Click like if you checked them out.
holy shit...... when I first heard the new album I thought Mikael was starting to sound like fucking Chad Kroeger and now i think he is starting to look like him... lol
i like this song. i like it a lot. and i liked the devil's orchad the same way.
now i havent heard the album yet, but i've seen quite a few negative opinions on it. now, after i listen to the album, ill form my on opinion, but im kinda starting to wish pyre was an official track of the album
two years ago i was on progressiv nation tour concert beacouse of dream theater..opeth were playing before dream theater and the whole concert i was makeing fun from them...now in 2011 dream thetarer made a very poor album and in the shope where i am buying records the shopkeepr recomends me the last opeth album...i was totaly blowed away...now i am collecting all the opeths albums....even i am 70tis prog fan i must admit that they are one of the greatest bands in today music industry
Imagine that Mikael Akerfeldt jois Ritchie Blackmore right after Dio's departure in Rainbow or joins Genesis right after Peter Gabriel leaves. Have you imagine that? So, Heritage is your imagination :)
I think this record is similar to riding the back of a CAMEL. The influence of the CAMEL's movements give birth to a new age in progressive music; namely Opeth's.
I hope their current lineup stays the same until the final days of Opeth. I love Fredrik's soloes, Martin's funk-ish style, Martin's groove, the keyboard guy's vocal tone, and it wouldn't be Opeth without Mikael.
@watsyurdeal This is one of the more normal songs, and it's only a bonus track. The rest of the album definitely is an acquired taste, and I've acquired most of it by now.
These guys are already on the way to legendary status. I love their death metal stuff, but I grew up adoring early British Prog- and Opeth is so creative. Listen to the beautiful jazzy guitars. Great stuff. Really legendary bands can try anything-Led Zeppelin threw fans for loop after loop. Only part-time fans complained and didn't see the big picture.
Stop the growling, then it's not really death metal anymore. More of a jazzy, prog rock album. Not classic Opeth..but I can live with it. Of course I know Mikael wants to save his voice....so i understand the change.
Awesome! Sounds 1000 times better than the album version, I actually saw this on TV4 here in sweden when it aired, was really on the edge of my seat! This performance is flawless, too bad they had to cut it short though :( Really love their new proggy aproach, and for those of you who are worried that they're never gonna make a deathmetal like album again, I think they are! Best band of all time, really.
I saw Opeth for the first time in Philadelphia Friday the 22nd at the Trocadero. While I was taken back by the mellow songs in their Heritage album and others, I did yearn for that so-called "heavy thrash, growl and dirty-vocals" or "conformity", as others similarly put it. However, making the whole show calm and serene is just as extreme as making the whole show death and destruction. I praise Opeth for changing the face of Heavy Metal as we know it, but I like a little salt with my sugar.
I am enjoying this album alot...but it does have a few parts where the simplicity kills the mood...but then it quickly picks back up again. The beginning of Folklore comes to mind.
@ThexteraDrummer Yea Per Wiberg left because he wanted to play metal is what i heard =(. Opeth said it was a mutual agreement for him to leave but yea... you can fill in the blanks.
@peachesdeity watched the making of heritage dvd that came today with the exclusive o-merch limited edition of heritage. per was so alienated by the rest of the band.. i don't know man.. he was like a stranger to the rest of them..
@steliospitsillides Yea i suppose you can not really judge ppl till you know all the facts. Cant wait for my boxset to get here...it hasnt even been posted yet tho...
This is really pissing me off... why do so many care that this album is all more mellow than their standard? I think with the feedback of this album, we're beginning to see the fans that are in it for the heavy metal, and who's in it for the structure and atmosphere. Almost all I know who really dig this album, including myself, grew up with Black Sabbath and Rush first and so we love that Opeth have put their atmosphere to this area. Mikael was one of these people too by the way.
@SickDrummer2438 I love the new album, so much, I also loved every previous Opeth release. Opeth fans have always annoyed me, most of them don't really understand the band at all.
@SlaveExplosion I completely agree. Heritage has become one of my favourite albums of all time, and this song highlights its beauty perfectly. I too don't understand most Opeth fans... I love everything they've done since Orchid.
@benfrostmusic Indeed. Heritage is a superb album, and a battle cry against conformity, repetition, and the expected, in music. Opeth have never failed to experiment, and challenge their audience. And this is no exception. It will probably end up being one of my favourite ever albums.
@SickDrummer2438 Indeed. Heritage is going to sort out the men from the boys. It's a mature, bold, risky, and adventurous album. I am really impressed Opeth had the balls to release this, and not pander to the 'fans' clamouring for more of the same. It's a great album
@TheAdam159 I completely agree. Heritage is a masterpiece of an album and I thoroughly enjoyed every single part of it. I love metal Opeth, but Heritage is a new level of maturity they've reached and it shows.
@TheAdam159 I Love everything That Opeth bring out..I knew Before Heritage came out that their wasnt going to be Growls on it I didnt care I was so Looking Forward to It to Hear a Album that was Different, Heritage is My #1 album This Year so far i really dont see any band out Their To knock it Off #1 i totally Agree Opeth had the balls. Hail Opeth!!
I'm a long time Opeth fan;but I'm not digging the lighter side of them right now; was really hope for some old style....way too mellow for me....if they had not made the whole cd like that I'd be happier.....it is cool the music and all......but just can't get into it right now......I'm also wondering if the concerts are going to be really mellow or a mix...
@gh0strider2006 I know what you are saying, I really liked when Opeth was diverse and had a mix of mellow songs and metal songs, especially when the mix was all in the same song, but now they seem to have dropped everything metal about them this record... I am going to see them live on Tuesday, and I know that they are bound to play Devil's Orchid and probably a couple other new ones, but I really hope they will still play a lot of their older stuff too.
@gh0strider2006 current tour is 100% mellow. Saw them in Worcester, MA. I came for Katatonia and did not know much about Opeth. I think much of the audience was in shock.
@shawndw1000 They played Face of Melinda and A Fair Judgement among others in Nashville last night. Plus things like Porcelain Heart and Hex Omega. You will not be disappointed.
@TheShredworthy whew...good. I don't mind their change of pace in this new album...but when I go to a Opeth concert, I wanna see the good shit! lol...thanks. ok...on the road now!
Download now and buy it. I downloaded it in 320, then FLAC because I'm an impatient fangirl, however I preordered the special autographed edition months ago.

@gh0strider2006 probably a mix. I felt like you at first but I have started to really enjoy this stuff.

@jabberwocky1969 that was great show none the less though and katatonia was awesome live first time seeing both of those groups

@jabberwocky1969 hmm..not sure if I like the sound of that. Gonna see them tomorrow nite in Charlotte. I wanna see vintage Opeth...

@shawndw1000 They played Face of Melinda and A Fair Judgement among others in Nashville last night. Plus things like Porcelain Heart and Hex Omega. You will not be disappointed.

Download now and buy it. I downloaded it in 320, then FLAC because I'm an impatient fangirl, however I preordered the special autographed edition months ago.
