@artbycarlgookins Well, pantera was more a dark sounding band, because dime always tried to fill his pieces with notes that would normally be overlooked, thus creating a dark/unreal tone. However, pepper and and kirk have a WAY different style then dime, so it would probably give a whole different tone.

@13LKKAT Phil didn't join Pantera until 1987 and if you really want to get into the guts of it, Pantera's first thrash album wasn't released until 1989 (Cowboy's From Hell)... and then Pantera broke up in what 2003 officially. 14 years.. Down's first record was in 1991... so 20 years and they're still going at it... But I will give you in name only Pantera lasted 24 years but from 81-89 their music was total crapola.... can anyone say Heavy Metal Rules! Rofl

Pantera and Down are two different genres and cant be compared. Of course Pantera is the shit . But for Downs style there fucking awesome. And there is definetly no one better than THE LATE GREAT DIMEBAG. So that should even be a question

I never got to see Pantera back in the day and although we'd all agree it would be a distant second to Dimebag's Pantera, I would definitely buy a ticket to a Pantera (somewhat) reunion show without hesitation. I even remember Phil saying in like 2001-2002 (when Superjoint Ritual started getting some popularity) in a guitar magazine that Dime's presence in Pantera was so vast and didn't bad mouth the brothers Abbott in that article.
Hellyeah is shit and Damageplan was average. It sucks that two of the most talented musicians (Dime and Vinnie) went from a great band to bands that made music that sound like they should be in a video game soundtrack.

Down is the best band around today
Hellyeah is shit and Damageplan was average. It sucks that two of the most talented musicians (Dime and Vinnie) went from a great band to bands that made music that sound like they should be in a video game soundtrack.
And anyone that thinks anselmo is responsible for dimes death is a moron.

@Meleth28 Yeah. Because Zakk has a much deeper voice and he tends to do this...warbling thing with his voice. I think Phil's voice is unmistakable, as is Zakk's. But they certainly don't sound alike.

Fuck Phil, I was at Jones Beach when he got owned, and walked off stage like a biatch!!! pantera, down, and superjoint ritual, all have their own sound.....that's for sure. That's how i know that phil is a great musician. He can do more than just 1 project. Also, don't forget about Southern Isolation (phil and his wife did that project)
