  • Don't understand why people hates her. She got the guts to write about it and talk about it. Kudos for her.

  • She's homely and ugly and fat

  • wow, it's too bad we all got a wonderful look into a wonderful woman's life, through the eyes and idea of this neurotic writer. I agree with xhappyxlifex, glad Julia made the decision she did. I actually had the privilege of meeting her at a book signing and she is a pure delight. We love you Julia....always.

  • Interesting interview. She's very frank and bullshit-free. I'm confused about why people hate her so much. Is it just because she had an affair and she's not all coy about it?

  • Wow...They made her a huuuuge favor by having Amy Adams playing her role in the movie!

  • Wow, the Real Julie Powell is such a bitch. I agree.

  • The real Julie is such a bitch! I HATE the movie because of her! She isnt a sweet person like they show her in the movie. They should have done a movie ONLY about Julia Child!

  • I have no respect for this awful woman, she sounds like a babbling idiot.

No wonder Julia child hated her

  • She's a bitch.

  • This woman is just...I have no words. I feel like Julie/Julia was just a fluke and Cleaving was quite possibly the worst book I've ever read. I really don't want to read about a woman who chops meat by day and is a complete whore at night for 2 years.

  • She's shown herself to be human....so....what!

  • @Donlakyounomoah Why is it that whenever we describe someone as human we mean something bad? Why can't being human be noble and good? She carried on an affair in full view of her husband, not giving a damn about the feeling of a spouse--a good man she supposedly loved. Learning what a rat the real Julia Powell is makes it impossibe for me to ever associate her with the sweet, likable woman Amy Adams played in the movie. I don't think I'll ever be able to watch the movie again.

  • @sleedolfine15 ~ I don't disagree with you. I was amazed at how strongly people felt about her having an affair. She's nobody in life's grand scheme but look at how strongly people feel.

  • @Donlakyounomoah I think the reason why she is so "hated" is because her self exposure of her tawdry, sordid little tale was so unnecessary. We did not need to know about her ugly affair. She could have made the story a work of fiction, thereby deflecting criticism from herself. But revealing herself to be the cheater brought down all of this well deserved scorn especially since Amy Adams in the movie played a flawed, but basically likable woman, a portrayal which we now know was untrue.

  • What a piece of trash...

  • @denimchiq87 Exactly what I was thinking! I actually feel genuinely pissed off for giving her what she craves so much in reading the book (which incidentally was very poorly written, in my opinion). I have never heard of someone as egotistical and hideously selfish as her. I was misled by the film, originally attracted by the very core of the it - French cooking. By 'idolising' Julia, in a way that the onus is purely on Julie, it completely undemines the sanctity of her alleged admiration.

  • How could someone be as insensitive to promote their adultry to get ahead in their career? This seems beyond selfish to me. Quite heartless. I hurt for her husband listening to this interview. Hopefully he has been able to recover from this and move on. Love and marriage should never come with a pricetag. Her logic is toxic.

And for the sake of all those touched by Julie and Julia, I'm glad that Nora portrayed this story with class. This interview really upsets me.

  • @Msamcale2005 I completely AGREE!!!!!!!!

  • This girl is such a self absorbed person. She's annoying, not talented and kind of gross with such a terrible personality.

EVERYTHING is about her. What a pussy husband he was. Julia Child didnt' like her at all and said she didnt' cook well.

this has gone to her head big time.

  • It is very telling—not to mention well beyond egregious—that this self-obsessed, thoroughly unlikable little narcissistic twit would exploit the infidelities in her marriage to get attention. Poor Eric must have the galaxy's worst self-esteem issues to remain "cleaved" to this creature. No wonder the perceptive Julia Child herself disapproved of Powell and considered her blog a "stunt."

  • Well I'll give it to Julie Powell and Hollywood for helping me discover Julia Child. Thanks. She is letting all this get to her head. So Republicans fire people and Liberals bone people and have lovechildren. We're all flawed I guess.

  • She's a very selfish person. I've skimmed through both of her books, it doesn't take a genius to figure out she's a "Me first; fuck you" type of person.

  • Ironic how this never came up in the movie. The Amy Adams Julie would never do this :)

  • The only thing I can say about it is, that she just sells herself to become more attention (money)... Why would anyone ever to talk about such things in public (that happen so often - and we're all "just humans" if not for money ;-)

  • what a bitch.

  • Ugly dumb whore

  • I'm in the process of reading Julie and Julia, and the whole time I've been reading it I've been thinking, "bitch!" Obviously it's not just in the book.

  • she obviously isn't proud of what she did she's explaining how her relationship survived this affair and they actually learned something from it.

  • your all stupid people lol you must think your all so perfect!

  • Comment removed

  • Um...WHAT THE FUCK? She was found out, and she didn't get divorced or end the affair, and she clals it selfish? I call it being a filthy WHORE! And what the fuck is this shit? Her husband knew she kept cheating but stayed with a busted faced fat girl why? I don't feel bad for that cuckold. And am I they only person who HATES the droning sound of liberal public radio? People always sound constipated and as if they're whispering, SHUT THE FUCK UP!

  • @RightWingCon81 He loved her. Love is blind and often make you do very, very stupid things

  • @12lmeganl12 He's a piece of shit. He needs a fucking spine, don't call it love, call it stupidity.

  • bitch

  • aww you now its actually easy to cheat because anyone can do it but it really takes good people to work past it and rekindle thier love for each other

  • I just finished her book and all throughout it I thought she was a very witty, funny, crazy (but good) person and Eric was her perfect mate. Listening to this interview, I'm very disappointed. She's an asshole. Her poor husband.

  • This bitch is crazy. If I were her husband, I'd leave her. No doubt about it.

  • wow shes like proud of wat she did..tlkn bout her affair like shes sauteeing mushrooms!!!!! so sad she used julia to get this lil fame..it wont last lolng tho

  • Wow this woman is just like my ex wife Nancy Ritz .

  • Comment removed

  • After watching this I no longer feel sad Julia disliked her, as a matter of fact I feel happy about that lol

  • Funny how they liked her before and they say such nasty things about her now that she's finally become successful.

P.S. The strongest marriage can never crumble.

  • At the base of it, it's their business as to what, who, where, and why. There are two sides, folks.....in every instance. She's a strong woman to admit and talk about it. I applaud Julie Powell!

  • When I saw this movie, I thought this Julie Powell seemed like an amazing, sweet and fun woman. In some scene of the movie she tells her friend Sarah that she's a bitch. I didn't understand why. I was like ''Of course she is not a bitch!!!'' But watching this, I'm like... all right, NOW I can see who she really is. Yuck. She disgusts me. After EVERYTHING her husband did for her. Yuck,

  • Julie Powell does not owe me, the world, or the media remorse or explanations for her affair. The only one she owes it to is her husband. It's their marriage and how they handle it is their business. I'm glad she didn't sugarcoat it and try and make herself look better by sanitizing her actions.

  • I've watched the movie soo many times. In fact, when the movie is no longer in instant streaming on netflix i plan to buy a copy.

However, the Julie Powell in the movie is who I like. Not this one. I'm sorry, but I just have no love or fascination for the real Julie Powell.

The only reason why I looked her up was because I thought she was gonna be cool like Amy Adam's portrayal. Guess not :( The movie will always have a special place in my heart.

  • Totally agree with ALL comments! Stroke of luck for her with getting the book published and MOVIE! OMG. The real Julia saw that she was trashy from her Blog... Takes chipmunk face 25 sentences to say, "Uh.!" What a bore!

  • REALLY!!!! Great Jerry Springer candidate!

  • I enjoyed the movie...mainly bc I like Amy Adams. But I don't like the real Julie Powell. Such a let down. But I'll still watch the movie again!! :)

  • first she uses Julia to make her famous, now she uses an affair :(

  • Anyone else wanna burn that cardigan?

  • like - Who Cares!!!!

  • OMG She is makeing no sense AT ALL...... About haveing a affair.

I have been with My Husband since I was 15,now married 36yrs,and No Affair's.

This last 5 yrs, lost are Home,no Money, lost my Dad from Cancer, and a Landlord From HELL. and More.No one put a Gun to Julies head and told her she had to do an intervew. You dont see Sandra Bullock doing a intervew about Jesse's Affair. And she did put her private life out there in her Blog. This a very Mean world we live in,and getting worse.

  • I read both her books. I think she writes well, has interesting perspectives and is very frank and guileless. I can't quite figure out where all the hate is coming from...?

  • Julia Child never liked her...she knew.

  • wow..soo many of you are judgemental...you sit here listening, at you own will, this interview and pass judgement like salt at a table. How would you like to hash out in public your private life, mistakes and account for them to the world just because you wrote a book that became popular. I dont understand why people think they have a right to this information...and then after attaining it, tear the person down. Oh...people...come now...let us be civil! Sigh.......

  • I can not understand why everyone is so repulsed by her here... it's an interview, of course it's self centered. It's not like she's recording herself and uploading a video of herself talking about herself--- there's a demand for information about her and she's willing to be honest about it without sugar-coating or exaggerating. If you're disgusted by this video there is something wrong with you, or you're just reading the word "affair" and copying other commenters' tones.

  • I am amazed at how self centered this piece of trash is. Even more amazing is that she can look in the mirror and talk on the radio about what a terrible person she is with a smile on her face. Disgusting. What a far-cry from Julia Child.

  • Fuck this trashy whore. Julia must be turning in her grave.

  • Great host.

  • she make me want to puke.

  • So she becomes successful, decides to have an affair, gets caught, continues to have an affair, writes a book about it, and now intends to make lots of money off of her story...

    W...t...f...

  • Loved the interview, Mrs. Powell is very frank, honest, and to the point. She does not hide nor lie or fluff the affair. Good for her for being honest.

  • UGH! this woman is more full of shit than a septic tank. Eric is a fucking saint to put up with her.

  • THIS IS THE REASON MOVIE PRODUCERS SHOULD HAVE JUST DONE THE MOVIE ON JULIA CHILD ONLY, NOT JULIE POWELL!!!!!!!!

  • there is nothing she could ever write that would be interesting to me...ugghh!

    she is creepy

  • What a pile of shit.

  • Wow...this interview just makes you realize how good of an actress Amy Adams is...to be able to make this horrid excuse of a woman likeable was a job well done.

BTW as a man, how can her husband look at himself in the mirror, have some respect for yourself man and kick her to the curb...what redeeming qualities does this woman have? From her attitude and looks..I am shocked that she got one man, let alone two.

  • @mission762008 Amy Adams is an amazing actress, but even a sweetheart like her couldn't make this woman likeable. I wanted to slap her character all throughout the movie.

  • Wow she's a total loser....

  • she's no nigella lawson, that's for sure

  • "...in some ways very selfish on my part"?? Seriously?

  • "...in some ways very selfish on my part"?? Seriously?

  • wat a bich slut or wat so sad poorr eric

  • What a whore

  • oh boy she seems like a remorse free whore! They portrayed her as this sweet woman in the movie. Wow theres a huge difference!

  • Oh my god! She is so different from how she was portrayed in the movie. The movie was nicely done, but this woman needs to be slapped!

  • And another note... use your money to buy some makeup and clothes. You look homeless.

  • No wonder she never became an actor. Poor Amy Adams having to portray this woman. Learning about the "real" Julie Powell has now almost ruined this fabulous movie that Amy and Meryl put to life.

  • Doesn't it strike any of you how that huge microphone is possibly symbolic of something else?

  • Too bad, I thought she was a good person, but I guess she is just a lied trying to cover up with her husbands loyalty. What a cow. Rich cow, but still a cow

  • Too bad, I thought she was a good person, but I guess she's just a ,icier trying to cover up with her husbands loyalty. What a cow. Rich cow, but still a cow.

  • To keep fucking or not to keep fucking--that is the question.

My advice to all the guys who aren't married yet. Find a girl that will really do anything for you and marry her, BUT if there is something you can't work out with her DON'T GET MARRIED AT ALL!

Marriage with a nagging bitch who wouldn't do shit is worst than being in jail.

  • @Voodoofreak35

    lololololololol

    aaaaaaaaaaaafuckingmen!!!!!! been there done that

  • she looks nothing like amy adams

  • I don't know if anyone else noticed this, but this was posted on December 2009 and the dj mentions Tiger Woods' affair? I thought that Tiger's affairs only got publicized within the last two months? =S

  • he found out about it early but the affair continued. ouch man, so selfish

  • what an asshole

  • very disappointing indeed, having just seen the movie and thinking how cute Julia was in it to go to this actually very different and what seems to be very unstable person. it probably would have done her more good to keep herself out of the public light if she wants to continue to have a successful writing career. but good luck to her anyways

  • oh gosh! she desperatelly needs a therapist, a stylist and a hairdresser! this is very disappointing indeed, having just seen the movie and thinking how cute Julia was in it to go to this actually very different and what seems to be very unstable person. it probably would have done her more good to keep herself out of the public light if she wants to continue to have a successful writing career. but good luck to her anyways

  • The movie is good, but this is disappointing! My goodness..... "Are they still married?" I definetly like Amy Adams more. I hope she learns from her mistake. "Good week to all!"

  • The movie is good, but this is disappointing! My goodness..... "Are they still married?" I definetly like Amy Adams more. I hope she learns from her mistake. "Good week to all!"

  • there's something wrong with her....she's got an emotional screw loose.

  • I love the movie and amy adams. I hate the fact that she was portrayed by AA as such a sweet girl trying to find herself or whatever. I read a review about the book on npr and it just sounds like a horrible book where she parades her affair w/o any real sense of guilt. and she comes out here and the whole interview just sounds like a therapy session. who does she think she is? you just ruined the newly found career you had by overestimating your fame. gross.

  • What a bich

  • Does anyone else think this woman show's a complete lack of remorse?

  • Comment removed

  • Yes, it was unquestionable wrong for her to cheat on her husband. But she regretted and gave up the affair, her husband forgave her, and their battered marriage remained intact. I think she comes across as being very honest and sincere in this interview. She sounds as if she's trying to hold back tears. Basically what I'm saying is please be nice to her, and stop calling her the B-word!

  • That git always sounds like she's about to cry. Her reading of the book cleaving on books-on-tape sounded this way too, I heard it was annoying.

I don't think it's right to reveal these intimate details even if Eric her husband said it was okay. He doesn't even know what's in the book, he refuses to read it. It's got parts of how she was tied up, bitten, rough sex, taken against a hotel wall, obsessed and stalkerish while still with her husband, how this lasted over three years even though ...

  • ..her husband was very upset over it initially when he found out, and how some of the above sex acts weren't done only by her lover but by one night stands. GROSS! The insult is writing about all of this stuff done to a wife so that all the husbands friends, coworkers, family, and future children can read about what a sorry jackass he was. He needs therapy.

  • Seriously? I had no idea. What a self-centered narcissist.

  • @mayarose354 You know, I used to think the same thing. And moreover, I used to think, "why, speak publically about an affair you had, while, you were married, how tacky?"

  • if she cheated on her husband I cannot believe she didn't cheat on the Julie/Julia project

  • Comment removed

  • I find it very sad that Julie Powell has written a book, with hopes of profit, about her selfish, hurtful, and cruel ways she treated those close to her.

  • she's being honest, and you can hear her voice shake as she starts talking about it. being that she's on the air, I think she was trying to keep her composure and moving forward.

  • She always sounds like that. ALWAYS.

  • After a year of blogging...when it was over, her life was completley different, so I think she just didn't really know what to do with herself. There were no more 'motions' she had to go through. I'm not saying cheating on her perfect husband was a good way to handle it, but everybody handles changes differently. She defnatley beats herself up about it in the book. She knows it was selfish.

  • cindyjoelouwho (cont.) :

If Julia Child had known about Julie at an earlier time in her life, I think Julia would've been able to understand better what this was all about.

Julie obviously doesn't want to disclose everything in this interview, so she is being vauge, but I believe she is still genuinley Julie, and she's still learning. Life is a learning process, and who are you to judgeWhat makes you better than her? If you have never sinned cast the first stone.

  • Uhmm, learning what, how to be a decent human being? That stuff is inside you, if you whore yourself and your loved ones out for money and fame, well, than, that's what you are inside. Some people ARE better than others, that's a fact of life.

  • Comment removed

  • JEEZ! she seems as none of it even matterd, shes like um yeah whatever.

  • bitch

  • It is all about you isn't it.

  • SO glad I am not married to her...

  • Even when he divorces her, he won't be rid of her because of this book, it will follow him for life. He'll have to change his name. Good thing his pic is not all over the web.

  • She thinks she's fasinating whenshe just got lucky. How wrapped up in your little life can you be?

  • Julia Child was true about her.

  • I can't believe that after all that she went thorugh writing her blog and after all she put her husband Eric through she could cheat on him for TWO years!! And to be so selfish and practically not care about her husband by staying with the man she was cheating on him with... What kind of person is she? There are so many different ways to make your marriage work but affairs aren't one of them. Sad Eric had to go through that... Shame on Julie and glad she couldn't meet Julia while she lived

  • Julie Powell seems so selfish and self-absorbed.

  • She's a sociopath. I hate that Julia is tied to this chipmunk faced jackass julie powell for time infinitum on google. A whole generation might discover julia through this idiot who used Julia's fame for her own benefit. Julia was totally right to detest the use of her name and fame, so much so that she tried to stop a rose being named after her.

  • @domesticjoyable well put, chipmunk faced jackass. still, as a person who was more properly introduced to Julia through the CFJ, some small shreds of good have come from her, even if purely accidental.

  • @domesticjoyable - I'm sick! I just watched the movie and fell in love with her. When I found out that Julia Child wasn't a fan, you could say I was hurt. Now that I see the real Julie I'm blown away, WOW! does Hollywood polish a turd... She could've had the world by the short hairs if she had a brain. What a disappointment, trust between your spouse is everything, I don't know the whole story but know enough.

  • To clear things up - "Julie & Julia" is a romantic comedy that uses elements of the real lives of both women VERY loosely. I kept up with Julie's original blog on Salon, which was hilarious and honest. In the movie, Amy Adams plays a completely different, sometimes timid character who is free of profanity and deep conflict. Real life is messy, especially when "normal" people become famous overnight. Julie and Eric both cheated. The book is about her struggle with that. They are still together.

  • @vaguepauline Eric cheated too?

  • @domesticjoyable A whole generation HAS discovered 'Julia through this idiot.' But you have to let them decide for themselves if Julie is a good person or not. I, for one, am grateful for her bringing me to Julia Child (not really, as I've known Julia since childhood in the 90s, but Julie made me rediscover Julia and to really learn about her life and craft). I don't necessarily like Julie, but she is catalyst for the Julia renewal.

  • i want to tell her to stfu.

  • a bitch. Nasty nasty Bitch.

  • At least she was honest about who she was in the book there were some problems in Julie and Julia. The movie very much glossed over some of these problems.

  • Mmmm yeah she seems selfish and a little enamoured with her own vocabulary. A far cry from Amy Adams lol.

  • selfish and annoying
