it is not plugged into the power port, it is modified with a mini usb port hooked up to the D-Pad.

Yeah, there's no calibration code when that gets plugged in. So it's got no Deadzone, where you can be off a bit to the right or left and not be pushing right or left. No calibration code also means that it's only manually calibrated as to what 'flat' is.

You can with a bit of wiring. I haven't done it but it should work if you combine the end of a DS/SP charger with one half of a GBA link cable. Then the charger end can fit into the DS. Might work, might not.

That's the tilt... detector... thing. It's what makes it able to pick up when you tilt the DS.
