That's awesome! I have a 6bt swap that I'm working on for my C/10. What did you use for the brakes system....(master cylinder, vaccuum pump, etc)? Thanks so much
Did you do all the fabrication your self? Cause I ahv ea k5 blazer and Ive got 6bt with nv4500 in garage and just need some advice. What all did you have to do to get this to work out?
i have an 88burban, im planning a 6bt swap into it and so far i figure itll cost me about $6,500. is that about right? i mean for a motor, avalanche engineering crossmember, adapter plate, billet plexplate, radiator, intercooler, new fuel lines, and fuel tank (converting fron piece o' shit gasoline engine!) also what was your milage, or would you guess the milage was? what cooling system did you use? (intercooler/radiator) will a dodge ram system fit?
I'm really sorry I sold my 1990 3/4 ton 4x4 GMC Suburban back in 2003. It had 145k on it, but it was cherry. If I had it to do all over again, I would've kept it and dropped a 6BT in it. I bought a 2003 Toyota Tacoma 4 x 4, hated it because it was so small, bought a 2005 GMC Sierra POS, and now I've got a '92 Dodge Ram with a Cummins 6BT. It's a nice truck, but I miss the luxury of the Burb. Thing would go anywhere, too.
the first 5.3s were 323 now they are 325...thers a whole article on wiki about the vortec motors...some 5.3s had 300hp some 270.. its pretty neat to check out btw nice burban
yah mabye you should look into that because I know they are 323s and chevy and gmc also say that. Not to mention all the auto parts store say its a 323. You cant tell an engines exact displacement by the litre. They round the 5.3 liter off it is not exactly 5.3000
looks nice im planning this conversion on my 84 dually as the 454 at the mo is giving around 6mpg whilst towing and that hurts haha good job on the burban any ideas of what it does mpg wise
In my opinion 4L80E is a bullet proof transmission. But I would still prefer a 5spd manual transmission with a gear vender. The rpm range isnt wide enough for an automatic.Since its a inline motor it has very low peak torque. You could run it all its life and never need to rev it over 1500 rpm.
man thats a clean lookin conversion. looks like somebody has the pump turned up a lil bit lol. sick lookin burb 2. i woulda done the same thing 2 it. it looks killer and has he power 2 pull watever u want and some things u mite not want 2
actually forrest17289t, ur partially right. yes you can make easy power with the cummins conversion. but i dont think thats the only reason ppl do it. they make pretty much drop in kits for the 12v cummins cuz its a full mechanical motor and stuff. thats y u dont c many if any 24v cummins swaps n these truck because of the wiring nightmares lol. same goes for uramax and powerstrokes. just 2 damn many wires lol
there isn't a chevy kit, there is for a ford. Not exactlly drop in for a chevy. First step remove everything from the firewall forward. second step remove center crossmember. third step position engine to desired position...then start building. The most challenging part is the a/c. custom lines, reposition ps pump, a/c compressor, alternator, etc. with brackets from cummins, not used on Dodge trucks. the turbo sits to close to the evaporator....lots of work...but a pretty cool result.
Wow that truck is nice, I like how you stole my idea of putting a 5 speed in a suburban, ha. What kind of mpg are you getting now with the conversion done?
what world do you come from and do some research. my dodge which has a cummins in it and i can average 16-19mpg on the highway and im making 432hp. LEARN BEFORE YOU TALK
not picking fights or anything but i highly dought that. I had an old blazer with a 454 in it and i rarely saw 10mpg and that was bone stock. I've honestly never seen a v8 360 or over do any better than 14mpg
yeah, but it doesn't have the torque of a CUMMINS! I have two of these bitches and let me tell you, even stock, it's probably more powerful than your built 350.
"dads is a 1993 5.4l 350 v8 stock and it gets like 22 or so to the gallon"
More bullshit... What, was that a special 350 that GM only made that year that was 5.4l? 22MPG with a suburban, HAHAHAHA priceless...
I have a '98 GMC K1500 pickup. It has the 5.7l 350 engine in it. with many mileage minded upgrades in it plus a tonneau cover, and I get 18 at BEST on the highway on flat ground
GM NEVER made a 5.4 liter engine. So unless your dad put a Ford engine in his suburban, you don't know what you're talking about. Second, the simple addition of free flowing exhaust will not increase the fuel mileage significantly.
My GMC 5.7 is chipped, with a K&N FIPK, headers, free flowing cats, and a full Magnaflow exhaust... With a 2wd pickup, a 5 liter, and a tonneau, MAYBE you'll see 20. Anything more is just bad math or wishful thinking.
GM DID MAKE A 5.4 liter engine its the 327 you find about any make and size engine shown in cid and liters here torque de motores bencineros y diessel
My bad, I completely forgot that the 327was a 5.4... Either way, that 'burban would not have had a 327 in it unless they put it in there themselves, as the 327 has not been put in a GM vehicle stock as far as I know since the early 70's. So let's say for the sake of argument that this guy took a 327 and put it in that suburban, he's STILL not getting 22 MPG, no way, no day.
Actually, I've built DOZENS of small and big block GM, Ford and Chrysler gassers over the years, to varying degrees of power for varying vehicles. I know PLENTY about big block Chevys. Clearly you don't, you can't even figure out which lie to tell about whether you have a supercharger or a turbo made by a company that doesn't make turbos. Grow up.
No, they don't. They make superchargers. Superchargers and turbochargers are two completely different things, but you must know that since you have one of each on your magical suburban... tard...
zackypoo the factory 454 only gets like 10mpg n a burb. unless it has some stupid ass trans set up wit like a 9 spd man trans with 3 or 4 overdrives theres no way ur gettin 20 mpg out of it. even if u r makin 500hp which i doubt it still wouldnt get that kinda mpg. and since u supposedly have it supercharged and turbod how do u have it set up? cuz that would b like a 10grand motor rite there since those 454s were never built 2 make much power over stock
It belongs to a buddy of mine. He is using a NV4500 out of a Chevy with an advance adapters bellhousing with a dodge input shaft. This keeps the transfer case left side drop, where as the Dodge transmission would require a driver's side drop front axle.

dont ever put a dodge engine in a chevy theyre just to good for dodge engines

an NV-4500 5-speed out of a chevy with advance adapters bellhousing with a dodge imput shaft.
