He is doing: p a m i but I have seen him play a five stroke tremolo in person on this as well. Pepe is the best, but this guitar is too bass heavy for Recuerdos.
I dont agree. Perhaps the mic is distorting the bass a little, but for me most players are too LIGHT on the bass on this piece. Pepe's use of thumb rest stroke gives the whole thing a great presence. When he plays this live the sound goes right to the back of the hall. Amazing.
his tremolo is amazing. i can't quite figure out if his technique is out of this world, or if he is picking it differently than what we are use to (p-a-m-i)? i'm looking at his index and thumb fingers and i can't wrap my head around what's going on.
looking for knowledgable p.romero fans to comment. thanks!
Technique sublime and he lets each melodic note SING! This is, I believe it would be when one stands in front of the Alhambra. Very, very beautiful, never heard it like this. Thanks
nunca pude encontrar invocacion y danza interpretada por pepe romero, solo la escuche una vez en el documental de joaquin rodrigo... espero algun dia poder escucharla por este maestro. Saludos y gracias por el video ;)
heard this playing on the closing credits of a sopranos episode, fantastic seeing the video. one of those songs that sends a shiver down you when you hear the opening bars.....
The interpretation, like John Williams, the precision and accuracy, like Narciso Yepes. Brilliant...I can't see how you say that he doesn't let this music breathe....There is plenty of rubato, crazy good tone, etc. I suppose you'd say Sungha Jung's version is better than this...Sungha is very brilliant, but nowhere near Romero...
this is an amazing performance of this song! I LOVE hearing it on the rosewood backed guitar. I am not as fond of the cypress guitar he plays in the newer videos.
Good one and undoubtedly passioned, but to my taste this piece is played too fast and without caring about detail and depth. It doesn't even let the music "breathe", I'm afraid. Maybe Rossfelder is still to young, but I prefer his version.
this is probably one of the most romantic performances of this piece i've heard. the sound quality is terrible, because it's on youtube. believe me, NO ONE does this song like Pepe
Tell you what, put a blind across your eyes and listen to various versions, tell me then which version you like best. Let your ears be the filter to your soul, and not your eyes.
When I find a tremolo and concierto de aranjuez and play the guitar like pepe romero do it, maybe I change him. but not so far. I am sorry John williams, juliam bream and another classic guitar player..
I speak spanis, but I'll try to explain my opinion. Pepe Romero is the one of best guitarist of th world. John Williams is a machine playing guitar, but he doesn't play with felling,, julian bream In my opinion i dont like his way to pick de string. When I heard for first time to pepe romero long time ago I loved his way to play the guitar and since that time I never changed him for other. His version of concierto aranjuez is the best. I am not lier.
haha... tremolo i have been practising it... i realise that is also a essential needs to shape up ur nails contact with strings... the motion and force is essential in producing the rich tremolo sound... pepe is fantastic...
I would say within a few years of dedicated practice you can develop the proper technique, but the rest is up to you from the heart. It's phrasing and dynamics that bring this piece to life imo...
your comment is great... I could not agree more... listen to the way pepe shapes this tune... many can play this but only folks like him can REALLY play this
Yes I must agree. Pepe is amazing. I used to have a very old record with all four of the Romeros playing this tune. Absolutely breathtaking. Pure beauty. They add a little intro to it where they repeat the first measure w/o tremolo, they arpeggiate the the bottom two notes, but make a diad (adding in a C)out of the top note. And there's just a hint of a pause between each pass of it... Just wow... I have looked for ten years to reacquire this recording.
the best performance of Recuerdos de la alhambra ever.

This is his best. His Asturias is a bit too sleepy, but Romero's "Recuerdos" is excellent.

I'm still fighting that Williams or Bream are the best. Bream has retired now and Williams for all the amazing technique he has, lacks emotion.
Pepe is starting to re-educate me.

Men You should start playing it without tremolo and another thing the secret its in the nails you have to leave them grow in a special form
