  • 2:44 JESUS if hes got a gunshot to the head why are you making the video?! get him to hospital :S

  • 11 people shot themselves to try this.

  • ive always wanted to know

in the old war films when someone got shot they poured white powder onto the wound

i always thought it was salt or something to disinfect the wound

  • @theemporour most likely quikclot or equvilent. I heard some storys about them using powderd chaulk but I'm not sure I believe that one

  • I carry that most of that, plus an Israeli Dressing, great for serious wounds to extremities.

  • Also, when we are expected to make the plastic sucking chest wound cover, once we have that in place how do we manage the blood loss in contrast to injuries to other body parts?

  • Love the video. Question: What about if a bullet goes through someone's abdomen, exiting the back, and lets say they fall face down. How do you proceed? It would seem that you would have to treat both the entry and the exit wounds, but I was paying attention when we were told that the victim should be moved as little as possible. Can you advise?

  • Good info and good reminders from EMT-B classes long ago. Thanks again :)

  • What do you do If you have to take the knife out?

  • @MrGabrielTheGreen You don't no matter what, only in the event it is obstructing is breathing in same way where he can no longer breath. Taking the knife can open him up for bleeding or make things just simply worse. Better to stabilize in place.

  • its easy to use a gun, but do you really know how mach damage can you make when you shoot someone???? This is a really nice way to be conscius how danger can be a gun ...I like this video

  • 8:06 If you patient is awake maybe he can hold the knife stuck in his chest.

  • i subd, great video, very hlpful to a lot of folks god bless you guys

  • should i put gauze in the cut

  • advice to people, don't do this stuff if on some random person if you arn't certified.... If i wasn't cert. I probably wouldnt even bother doing this stuff unless its my mom, dad, or sister cousin or close family member. Other than than that, screw that... cause you could get sued even with the good simaritin act.

  • very helpful. from now on every time i go hiking or go in the forest, ill bring my first aid kit, good vid

  • Good job

  • Sorry I didn't realise I slept that wrong lol

  • Loosen the turnaquit every 10min for about 2min for blood flow so that you won't have to amputate

    Great vid

  • Great video, thanks

  • Very informative, I will start keeping dressings in my car from now on.

  • Thanks for making and uploading this, guys. If you save only a single life it will have been more than worth it!

  • somebody's probly out in the middle of the woods in georgia. and they got a stab wound. they just got a tiny little bar worth of fone service and theyre watching this video right now trying to figure out how the fuck theyre gonna keep from dying. ....good luck. dont forget to pause and rewind the parts ya dont understand. dont be fraid to use the turnakit.

  • 04:05 That's why it's always good to have a pocket knife on you... for stabbing a mother fucker haha.Just kidding ths was very usefull thanks for uploading.

  • 10 people didn't have a glock to return fire.

  • Very helpful

  • the awkward moment when teh top two comments ae contradicting each other lol anyway thx for the vid

  • obama is a deceiving socialist prick. He has done nothing except advance our debt and give us socialist health care.If any of you think he is decent than god help us all if thats the kind of dumb ass liberals we have in our country.

  • @ARMEDINFIDEL741 I hate to tell you this but capitalism is dead. USA is a fascist state, and I'll take socialism any day of the week over fascism.

  • wow last time i look at Youtube Comment... fucking crazy lol

  • Comment removed

  • i know this is a demistration but just to say he would have died by now NICE VIDEO by the way

  • at 6:11 wouldn't you just put a heavy dressing and elevate the limb above the heart? I always learned that tieng tourniquet was bad because it kills the cells in the limb and increases the chances of needing an amputation. but I'm not an expert lol

  • DEY TURK YER DERB!

  • A pen as a windlass?? Snap. If you applied the tourniquet tight enough to effectively control serious bleeding, that plastic pen shown here would certainly break. Good for a demo, bad for reality. Carry a professional tourniquet... the life you safe could be your own.

  • Hey man, thanks a lot for the video. I've just a question: for example, if someone's got shoted in the leg, and he's having the first stages of a hypovolemic shock, will it be good to put on a tourniquete? The hypovolemic shock is because the lack of blood/oxigen reaching to the parts of the body, and the tourniquete prevents that the blood passes.. Woundn't it make the hypovolemic shock got more dangerous? Thanks

  • Gunshot wound to the head is a Kill, isnt it? BOOOOOM HEADSHOT!

  • @agahajak many many many people survive headshots, some even live and get stuck with a bullet lodged in their brain.

  • @chubbs636 WHAT?! i did not know that lol

  • @agahajak ...........No. Look at Kathy Gifford. She survived a gunshot wound to the temple.

  • @chrissline77 Wow thats blessed, i thought a bullet thru your temple would be a total kill.. thats fucked lol, thanks for telling me dude..

  • @agahajak No, not all the time.

  • @mikeissocool19 idiot, do you expect us to perform surgery on him on the spot???

  • how do you stop the bleeding to the chest or is that not an issue?

  • @bigredonedday pressure (hand to chest), holding the pressure points above the wound, or clotting agents. Pressure alone should control most bleeding.

  • @RiverSolitaire true.

  • Just to cover some things Skinny didn't have time to go over, when applying a dressing to a possible sucking chest wound check for an exit whole on the back and seal that completely, also clear the valve on the front dressing every few minutes as it will become clogged with blood. Lastly you should always try pressure points before a tourniquet is applied and if one is applied release it every 2 hours until help arrives. Everyone should take a FR or WFR class to stay prepared.

  • @mikeissocool19 if its not a through and through, digging it out will cause bleed out

  • @sootch00 thnx i really needed to learn basic training for situations like this and not advanced training like surgical removement

  • you should have just said someone got mad at him, not a black guy.

  • Just a little addition to the Occlusive dressing (the plastic bag) when you tape 3 sides, leave the open side on the side so that blood can drip down (the lateral side)

  • inportant stuff!

  • @mikeissocool19 Never, never, never remove or attempt to remove a bullet or any foreign object (knife stuck in a leg for example). It could be very close to a major artery, or even be IN an artery but is holding back blood flow by being there).

Remove or even just move it, and the victim might bleed out. You should stabilize the object with bulky bandages to prevent it from moving. Leave the actual removal for a surgeon.

  • @mikeissocool19 I'd like to see things from your point of view but I can't seem to get my head that far up my ass.

  • Great video Sootch!! Very informative!! Thanks

  • A better way to treat a suckin chest wound would be to use the bag of a potroleum dressing taped on three sides as you said. the goo inside the bag is sterile and creates a better seal as to not let air back into the chest cavity. (Occlusive Dressing.)

  • would Ice help any?

  • is a quick-clot when you burn the wound shut? or just the vessels? not sure what a quick-clot is but sounds like a good last resort for major bleeding

  • @Umimugo Quick-clot is a chemical compound. It is not something none medial types should play with in any way as you can kill the victim with it if you don’t know what you are doing. Just stick with the stuff these guys have done hear and call for help. Keep them worm apply direct pressure and digital pressure to wounds on the extremities and remember to look for exist wounds to. Work fast, keep calm and keep it simple.

  • I'm CLS certified in the Army and do this type of training all the time, mainly 'cuz I'm a combat army MOS, this is a very accurate video and good to know. You cannot learn how to execute this kowledge as well if you don't do hands on training though. And you learn a lot in depth about first aid with a job like mine. However before applying a tourniquet to the victim's arm you are supposed to apply pressure with your knee into their armpit to cut off the main artery blood flow before you apply.

  • @RealMemoryDecay god bless you sir!!!

  • @adamadman100 Thanks, you too man!

  • Excellent information, I really appreciate your time and service.

  • @redpinauctions Thank you and you're welcome :)

  • @sootch00 what if the bullet gets out from the back so there are two holes? would we have to seal it at both holes?

  • @banebreaker3 Yes you would.

  • @banebreaker3 Yes you would. Another thing they don't talk about in the video is chest decompression, but that's way too technical and to try and teach that to random people over the internet would be very dangerous, some things are dangerous unless you do it professionally and with hands on training. I couldn't imagine how many idiots would watch it and try it and kill a victim by not knowing what they're doing. But that's why it's not in the video I'm assuming.

  • @banebreaker3 yes, but at least you won't have to worry about the bullet getting stuck in something

  • military has strayed away from quick clot, causes to many problems when they go into surgery... messy and takes too much time to clean before operation can really begin, and when a pt in the field has already been waiting sometimes almost a few hours depending on evac times, time is precious. Good news is now we use hemostatic bandages now, same principle but everything stays attached to the material so it makes it quick clean and easy to remove

  • Thanks Man this Really Helped"

  • I feel like Dwight Schrute has seen this video and understands it completely.

  • im not sure if this is still correct i know these things change all the time but the british army used to teach you to put them face down with sucking chest wounds with an arm or something else(if i remember right) beneath them to keep the wound slightly off the ground so that the blood from the wound wouldnt go into the lungs but would trickle out the untaped side of the bag when they breathed out makes sense to me but as i say im no expert on this stuff

  • @sootch00 Sorry to double post, but i hit the post button too soon. There are chest seals sold that only allow air to travel one way, and they have adhesive on one side so it absolutely stays in place.

  • @sootch00 Quikclot bandages are a must!

  • What if its more extreme, like a severely damaged limb, or the guts are protruding?

I read something on that, you should do one of those circumstances.

  • the glock 19 haha

  • is he your son

  • What about cervical injuries from gunshots or a knife?

  • what does this have to do with obama?

  • excellent video. Hopefully nobody will have to put these methods into play, but it's good to know the proper way to treat this kind of injury.

  • Comment removed

  • about the sucking chest wound have you seen the sucking chest wound thing for around 20 bucks if so is it worth it?

  • Thanks to you and skinny - great info - on the mark although I do not agree with a few of your comments. That is from a military point of view. Thanks again your info could very well be life saving!

  • @mikeissocool19

my brother is a doctor and he told me that actually going in and taking the bullet out causes more damage then leaving it in. If the bullet is close to a nerve, they may not take it out. The idea is to spot the man from bleeding to death until a pro can assist.

  • Awsome

  • I am gathering notes on this stuff in case martial law is put into effect weapons and first aid information is greatly important thank you.

  • great video, hope to see more first aid videos. skinnymedic did a great job.

  • @HHHdahman you have a big gay fetish for skinny medic.

  • thank you

  • 7:54 jeeze what did you do piss your wife off? lol

  • Recently i was out with my shooting club and my factory ammo failed and my gun blew up in my face. Looking back i am shocked how little i or my fellow members were prepare for first aid. I took shrapnel to the face and had a bad burn on my hand. We were able to make crude bandages to hold onto my face before the long trip to the hospital. Now i carry a first aid kit that is ready for everything short of surgery. Be prepared is right,

  • @mikeissocool19

Sometimes removing bullets can do more harm than good. So your statement isn't really accurate.

  • @Lexesbenz So you cant just fucking leave it in there lol.

  • @mikeissocool19

In some cases, yes you do. No offense but you should study up on medicine before you try to act like you know what you're talking about. Sometimes removing a bullet will cause death, as opposed to harmlessly leaving it there.

  • @Lexesbenz thats why you disenfect the wound first then pull it out what can kill you is a infected wound with led in it. no matter what that bullet must come out/.

  • @mikeissocool19 First of all....it's lead, not led. And people live with bullets in them. Writers of the local newspaper back when Abraham Lincoln was assassinated said that he stayed in critical condition for something like 3 days after the gun shot to his head. The doctors tried up until his death to get the bullet out. Doctors now a days say that if they had just not dug for it and left it in there, he could have survived. Case in point.

  • Informative thanks!!

  • Thank you for the info.Good video.

  • @mikeissocool19 Sounds like an easy way to loose a lawsuit

  • @SkinnyMedic lol ok then

  • @sootch00 bullet dont come out hes dead so really no point. hes saying if your in the wilderness how could u wait that long? you couldnt the bullety must come out immidently.

  • @mikeissocool19

I'm sorry to tell you but you're incorrect. I don't know where you're getting your information from but not all bullets are or can be removed. Some must be left behind in order for the victim to survive, reason being. Because some bullets can be so deep that going after them can actually kill the person, where leaving it in will allow them to live. Even in the wild it is better to leave the bullet in until one can reach proper help.

  • @Lexesbenz oK yes i agreee if it is deep penatration shot then yes probley bette rto leave it but if it is not so deep or can be able to come out better to take it out and disinfect the wound ASAP.

  • @elouwen last tried in 2007. didn't pass and was taken off the books. Obama is a good man. Stop worrying about the government and worry about your neighbors, the drug dealing child fuckers that infect your society live right next door to someone like you. THINK GLOBALLY ACT LOCALLY.

  • @shitthisis i agree

  • @shitthisis obama is a shit head

  • @shitthisis ..."Obama is a good man...???" have another gulp of the Kool-Aid to wash down your meds man!

  • @shitthisis are u talking about shooting child fukers & dealers or looking out for them. cuz i though being a vigilantie was illegal

  • @shitthisis obama is decent, but he doesn't know enough about government. other than that you are correct

  • @mikeissocool19 blood is evidence. less blood less evidence.

  • well done. the tourniquet treatment will stay with me for life.

  • What exactly is "bulky dressing"? Is it essentially just a lot of gauze?

  • LOL "all bleeding stops eventually."

  • Yeah, that's pretty cynical! :D

  • Comment removed

  • Awesome great info.

  • @elouwen ok, i get it, you just want to argue endlessly, finding something wrong with everything i write, you win YOUR game

  • Easier said then done. I bet in a high stress situation I would have forgotten most of this. But maybe practice will help.

  • Awesome vid, thanks for sharing such vital info!

  • Great video!

  • Bravo! Excellent topic and video. We ALL need this knowledge. I'm showing my wife and kids so they know, JUST IN CASE.

One minor complaint: more close-ups needed. Hey, do it again, with more detail this time. We can't get too much of this stuff. Consider doing a series with skinnymedic. He sounds like he's got loaves of info to drop in us. Thanks sootch, and be blessed,my brother!

  • My friend who is a British Para said a tampon works really well for stopping the bleeding if you have a gunshot wound...I thought he was joking, but no, completely serious.

  • Excellent video as always Sootch, very informative.

  • All bleeding will stop my ass. Artery that is bleeding most likely will need a tourniquet.

  • @1990MattC all bleeding will stop on its own, but its not always for the best

  • This video is fun to watch, but I hope people don't expect to be proficient in this kind of advanced care after watching. Without hands-on instruction, you can do more harm than good. Simply applying pressure and an improvised dressing (torn clothing, for example) is going to help with bleeding.

I'm glad that you encourage people to take a course, but you should have reiterated that this video is not going to make anyone an expert.

  • @icychap Thank you for telling that, I really thought I was an expert before reading your comment. I also think they should recommend people not to get shot or stabbed even if they know how to treat it...

I´m sorry, no hard feelings, I just couldn´t stop myself from being a bit sarcastic.

  • I have wondered about this. Very informative! Thanks for making this video with the help of people outside your expertise.

  • all you can do is stop the bleeding!!! but if there is internal bleeding I,m afraid all you can do is get the person to Emergent asap

  • The Glock is to return fire. LOL Ain't that the truth?

  • good info,

    thanks!

  • Sootch, Great little video!

  • Sootch- Great vid bro!! Getting good medical knowledge is always a plus. Been checking out USNERDOC and Skinny Medics site. By the way don't be worried about my handle..it's a long story from old re-enacting days. Take care and go easy.

  • Good information-thanks

  • As a nurse, I have to give a lot of respect to SkinnyMedic and all the other EMTs in this country, they don't get enough respect, they're the men and women who do their best to bring us patients in one piece after a disaster. It's sad that a lot of the doctors and nurses in our hospital make fun of our EMTs and consider them to be "lesser" medical professionals, which is simply absurd, so I stick up for them whenever I can.

So just a word to all the viewers, shake an EMT's hand if you meet one!

  • great video sootch thanks for posting

  • I don't know why, but I really feel the need to add that if you are in fact a first responder to a gunshot wound, stabbing, etc: Make sure you actually check the scene as opposed to just running in, which you may be tempted to do. You're not going to be able to help anyone if you yourself got shot/injured/killed in the process. Just some logic and my 2 cents. Good vid.

  • sootch looks like me at the doctor half relax and half uncomfortable

  • Great vid. Thanks!

  • AWSOME!!

  • Excellent as always Sootch! Thanks skinnymedic.

  • Excellent info. Consider yourself extremely underprepared if you haven't learned some basic first aid.

  • Great job Sootch and Skinnymedic! Thank you both very much.

  • Thanks so much for the cooperative vid! Great information covered. Not sure if y'all covered this before, but maybe there can be a video of a little kit everyone should carry/have for hikes etc.

  • Wow; not to sound mean, but Skinnymedic looks like 7 yrs ago he was in middle school not EMT school. Impressive. Great video.

  • @Springr1911 I get that all the time. I usually tell my patient that " I am not old enough to drive so I have to ride in the back". I have always used "I have to work days because I cant drive after dark.

  • @SkinnyMedic Priceless; take care bro and I hope to see you in more videos down the road. Take Care

  • @Springr1911

what does his appearance got to do with anything? and yeah it is a great vid, might save some lives.

  • Thank you very much, important info we should all know!

  • great information, sootch00! I've been waiting for a video like this. Thanks so much, man. Great ending, dude :))

  • great video, sootch! thanks for giving us helpful tips about these kinds of things, even if it may be a reminder on some parts, first aid is a great thing to know about.

  • NICE VIDEO WITH THE BASIC INFOS, KEEP ON TH GOOD VIDEOS

  • Good info, thanks!

  • Interesting info on the chest wound, especially about 3-side sealing. I would've had to learn that the hard way.

  • great video... you are the real youtube and what youtube should be used for

  • Sootch ... Your demonstrations are never to disappoint. They're awesome! LOL
