  • So the husband of a Korean and a new father of a Korean child doesn't know how to say "hello" in Korean. Shows how much he cares about the culture(lack thereof). Anyong is the most basic Korean word, something you would learn in the first day of language class. I feel sad for this poor child who will inevitably lose all her cultural identity growing up in this house.

  • @alexander96850

So sorry, but you are wrong. Yes, my Korean is bad but both children are bi lingual and speak Korean just as well as they speak English. Their Mother speaks only Korean in the house. Please don't feel sad for us, we are a happy family and are not trolling You Tube videos all day making denigrating comments like you..

  • @alexander96850 Dude, what the heck is your problem?! I PITY you because you can't see that this father and his wife have a love for their child that transcends race and culture. The mother is clearly Korean so their daughter will be raised knowing her culture. Your comments have no merit and you're clearly an IDIOT!

  • God bless your family for bringing Mia (and her brothers) into your lives. Thank you for posting this. My husband and I just applied to adopt from China.

  • @jaxangelchica

Thanks for the comments. We are very lucky. If you watch any of the newer videos you will see she is not the same person now as she was in that video. Much bigger, fluent in English, etc. She is still the best daughter ever though..

  • this was so beautiful, the love she received from her foster umma (mom), and the love she is receiving from you two are so inspirational :) thank you for lifting up my spirits

  • She is so precious! And blessed! My husband and I are hoping to adopt when we get to Korea later this year. What was the adoption process like for you. If you don't mind, what rules and requirements did you have to meet.

  • @teammaddison

The rules are you need an agency, and the process is long. You have to do homework, medical tests, visits from a psychologist, etc. It is a lot of money but worth it.. If you are in Korea as a resident I think it would be much easier but I am not sure of the process there.

  • AWWW! So bittersweet! it made me happy that she was so happy & willing to go with her new parents, but I teared up at her foster mother's goodbye tears! I also love how she was already calling them mommy & daddy!! ... and I definitely loved the black jack picture =]

  • @snuggs208

It was a great week. She is perfect in every way.. We are very lucky..

  • I am only 18 but in the future I want to adopt a child from Korea!

  • @tomboy313

That is a good goal to have. there are a lot of kids with no families who need help. Good luck..

  • @tomboy313 same i am 21 i want to work hard and ear alot so i can adopt a baby from busan korea

  • @GATITA7165

You did your research and called the city Busan and not Pusan! You are a true Korean Patriot!

  • @tomboy313

That is my same goal. I really want to adopt from Korea. I read and write in Korean fluently and know the language and culture, so I think that would maybe help. :)

  • Shes beautiful- im adopted from korea and this story really touched my heart! I also have a brother adopted from korea- and i was also adopted from the easten welfare society :) congrats to ur beautiful family :) 화이팅!

  • @sarahxxkristine

We just adopted a brother for her. The video is called "Mia Goes Back to Korea and Comes Home with a Brother". It is a 5 part series but shows her return to Eastern. Very emotional for her..

  • @matthewcyahoo yes! i watched and oh my goodness hes the cutest baby I have ever seen- My brother is 6 years younger than me, but we are very close. I am currently searching for my birth mom and im returning to korea this summer for the first time! I am very excited- i am so happy i found ur videos! ur children and ur wife are absolutely beautiful :)

  • @sarahxxkristine

Good luck. I always wonder whether I will be threatened if my children want to find their biological parents. I don't think so but you never know.

  • @matthewcyahoo ya never know- I have friends my age who arent interested in korean culture and their 20-23....but I also know other adoptees who waited til they were in their 30s-40s to find their parents. I guess it depends on the child. I know I am really eager to find my birth mom. It may be different for you because ur children have a korean mother...I have two caucasian parents and my eagerness to get in touch with my korean roots led me to searching for my birth mom.

  • @sarahxxkristine

Good luck. Let me know if you find them and what happens. I would be interested.

  • @sarahxxkristine I agree.

    I share the same thing

  • This is truly beautiful. It brought tears to my eyes. Thank you for all you have done for this little angel. God bless you and your lovely family!

  • Beautiful story!

  • soo cute mia called her new mom "umma" ahahah soo adorable.

  • she is sooo cuteeeee

  • You guys sure know how to stir every emotion lol.. some I didn't even know I had. I was clueless about Korean adoptions, I didn't know the majority of the children were raised in Foster homes so I just assumed you go pick up a sad kid that is happy to just be out of there.. Naive yes.. I couldn't do what the Foster Mom did.. she is clearly a beautiful person and happy little Mia is proof of the love she was shown while there. God Bless your family!

  • @jaydanpaul

Thanks for the feedback. There is also a video of us picking up her brother 3 months ago. It is called Mia Goes Home to Korea and comes back with a brother. it is a 5 parter and much more emotional. Korea has a good system for orphans, a lot of countries you just go to an orphanage and pick out a child. I think Koreas system is better than ours in the US.

  • I loved this aha

    Your family is beautiful.

It's a great thing you did for her.

  • @Bdiggity3sims

It is also a great thing she did for us.. We just adopted again. it is a 5 part video I posted called Mia goes home to Korea and comes home with a brother. Kind of a sad video as she went back to the "hospital" but happy also as she came home with a brother.

  • she is soo cute! i wish you had subtitles so i could understand the korean part

  • @ceenguyen

Me too. I don't understand either..

  • i am so happy for you guys~!

  • @ChangeThePicture

Dillon in Oklahoma, we use their Tustin CA office and they use Eastern Social Welfare Society in Seoul..

  • @TMaple66 I mean the people that made the video!!!!

  • @ChangeThePicture

    I made the video..

  • She is precious!

  • I am adopted from South Korea. I am 20 years old and i just want to let you know that i admire your generosity and compassion for giving your child a wonderful life. Not only that but you are giving every kid that is adopted from korea like myself hope. and most importantly love in our life's. Thank you thank you thank you

  • @javaspice

She had just turned 4. She was a little small for her age but she is filling out.

  • Did she speak any English when you initially went to pick her up?

(I'm guessing there wouldn't have been any reason why she would- but I'm just curiouse.)

It must have been a pretty easy transition seeing as how her mom speaks korean..

awesome. It would be pretty amazing to go through the adoption process. Happy that this little one has a "family", (clearly she had some caregivers that really cared about her- but I mean family in the traditional sense-- to call her own.)

  • @devinmkennedy she spokel barely other than help and counting to 5. The transiton has been great. She was surrounded bu love from the day we met her..

  • I love the black jack picture!!!. What a nice family!!

  • omg i can't help but cry while watching this T-T

  • did her real mother was there?

  • @Antzuu90

No, she was out of the picture for a long time..

  • this is such a heartwarming video. i too would like to adopt a little girl some day. i'm just too young to do so right now.

  • Thank you for your comments. We are heading back to the same place in korea to adopt a son in about 6 weeks. We will meet him in the same room. I like the Pink Floyd video, Coming Back to Life, you have on your page. It is one of my favorite songs..

  • @matthewcyahoo Congratulations on your expanding family! You all are truly blessed! Thanks for your comment on my pink floyd vid. That is my favorite band ;0

  • Your're too young to think so, it's a human being, not a toy, just watching this short film is not a reason to just want to, "adopt life."

  • Bulmer39 watching this WAS NOT the first time i decided i wanted to adopt. I'm 21 years old, so I don' think I"m "too young to think" of adopting once I'm settled into a steady life. I've been thinking of adopting & researching it for years. watching this WAS NOT the first time i thought of it. i don't see anyone as a "toy," let alone a HUMAN BEING! having spent years watching my sister's children I know just how HUMAN a child is! maybe you should be careful about the assumptions you make?

  • @monkeydashley No. Her biological Mother was no longer in the picture.

  • @matthewcyahoo i'm confused. i didn't ask about her bio. mom. or did i? :/

  • @monkeydashley

Sorry, I replied to the wrong person. New browser is confusing..

  • so cute! i loved watching it!

  • This is beautiful!

I am so happy that Mia's mother is Korean and she is growing up with that culture. I was adopted when I was a baby so I don't know any Korean and my parents don't either. Culture is so important!

This makes me want to visit Korea :)

    Much love

  • I was adopted from Eastern back in 1986 when I was 8 and it was so heartwarming to see your video. It brings me back to the day I left Eastern for America. Also that photo of Mia on a red and gold chair- I had my picture taken on that exact same chair!

  • The chair comment is amazing as we are going back to Eastern in about 6 weeks to pick up our son and the picture we received was in the same exact chair. That chair has a lot of history.

  • @chaelaw2053

I spoke to my daughter and told her about you coming from Eastern in 1986 and sitting in the red and gold chair and she was very excited. Her reaction surprised me, she was intrigued.

  • I would be too :) If that chair could talk, it would have so much to say I bet. I hope to be able to see that chair again someday, I live in Japan now and am making plans to visit Eastern.

I think you and your wife's decision to adopt is wonderful! Good luck with your son and continued blessings with your daughter.

  • Does your daughter still speak korean? It is nice when adopted children can still keep their culture and language.

  • My wife is Korean and that is all they speak in the house. Her Korean is better now than it was when she left Korea at 4 years of age. They talk behind my back though so it isn't fair..

  • Oh my goodness that smile! What a heart warmer, just Beautiful!

  • OMG I am boohoo crying aafter watching that!!! You guys are WONDERFUL!!!

  • GOOD bless this people and the child

  • nice video. I am also adopted through Eastern Social Welfare Society. It is such a nice place. I was just there over the summer. It is very nice you adopted an "older" child, my best friend was adopted as an older child too.

  • It is a nice place. People think we are nice for adopting an older child but we are the lucky ones. She is perfect. We are heading back to Eastern in March to pick up our son. We would have taken another older child but they assigned us a baby this time. We would take whatever we could get.

  • That was so sweet its nice to see people adopting children that are older most parents want babies but i am glad to see that you adopted an older child. its also wonderful to see that your wife is korean and mia's culture will always be around and she will be able to continue to speak korean unlike a good majority of korean adoptees. thanks wonderful vid i am so happy for you and your wife. God Bless you all....

  • Hi Matthew,

i really enjoyed your video - thank you for posting it and capturing all of those memories! just wondering how Mia is doing? you and your wife are so blessed to have such a lovely family! take care!

  • Mia is doing great. She is in kindergarten and they take her out of class everyday to read with the 1st graders. She is smart, happy and loves having a family.

The most recent video I posted is "Mia the off road racer". You can see her progress and growth on the video.

  • she is so precious! her smile is to die for. and i love that blackjack picture haha! God bless you for choosing to adopt an "older" child rather than a newborn. i hope mia brings you much love and happiness ;)

  • Thank you. She is great and we are very lucky. There are a lot of videos I posted of her and you will see her personality shine through in all of them.

  • What a beautiful family. Made me cry!

  • God bless you guys and the foster mom as well, this little girl has a tremendous amount of love.

  • She's sweettttt =D

  • I just posted the long version of this video. It shows even more fun stuff I had to cut out of the short version.

  • Cute. So more and more Koreans are adopting Korean kids these days?

  • Yes, it looks that way.. A lot of adoptees also seem like they are going back and adopting..

  • I would LOVE to adopt a kid from Korea, as I am an adoptee from Korea. Your family is a very beautiful family and your wife is Korean?

  • Yes, she was born there and came over when she was 11.

  • That's nice. I came here when I was 2.

  • It was so cute when she saw her new room. She had such a big smile on her face

  • Thanks and God Bless! Good luck with your new son!

  • we are adopting from Korea right now. Our homestudy is almost done and are just waiting to send the USCIS stuff to get fingerprinted (again).

  • Good luck. We are about six weeks away from heading back to the same place in Seoul to pick up our son. It has been a great experience..

  • Will you be making another adoption video for your son? :)

  • Of course. We are waiting for word to travel right now. We expect to be called within the next 4-6 weeks. I will post it as soon as we come back from the trip.

  • I am sitting here weeping like a baby as I watch this! What a lovely little girl. How wonderful that she has been so loved in her life and will continue to be. My husband and I have been trapped in the endless wait for a Chinese daughter. We have recently been looking to Korea as it seems the wait for a child in need of a home is LESS than four years and counting. I am so glad to have found your video. I was THRILLED to see that you have given her the gift of Disney as well! God Bless you all!

  • Thanks for the comments. We were very lucky with Korea as our wait was very short. We are actually going to pick up a son in the next two months from the same childrens hospital. We worked with Dillon International in Tustin, CA. I would recommend working with them.

  • i am happy at least she can still learn her korean culture from her mother

  • @tensi45

Thats the most awsome part! I feel sorry for kids whos parents do not teach their language and keep them strangers from a history they should know. I even met a Korean lady she was 27 at the time and her parents never taught her how to eat with chopsticks. OH COME ON NOW! Then again met a 32 year old Korean adoptee whos white mom pulled her away from me when I was speaking korean to her. She had the biggest smile on her face until pulled away. VERY RUDE!

  • I am very happy for your new forever family! Congradulations!!!

  • lol to 2:30. "good, now I don't have to uh, drag her on the plane". hahaha.... God bless you... she's is an angel!

  • I am so happy for you and your wonderful little girl. But I can't help feel sad for the foster mom..she looked so sad. But I know God will bless her and you as well.

  • We are adopting another child, a boy and are returning to Korea this summer to pick him up.

We are going to have lunch with Mia's foster Mom so it will be nice for her to see how well she is doing.

  • 너무 귀여워요 the video is soo beautiful it made me cry omg she is soo cute!! God bless you^^

  • holy crap, at 1:19 that's Sinchon subway station, exit 3 in front of the mcdonalds..haha, i live near there

  • i was actually teary eye to see how much she was loved in korea and now here with you two! God bless you and yours.

  • Her English is just about fluent. She is very clever, nothing we did, just genetically very smart. She caught on so quickly that after 4 months of being home her Pre K teacher said she was ahead of most of the English born children in class.

Maybe I will do a video where I ask her questions, it would blow people away at how fast she mastered the language.

  • By the way, how's her English?

  • Awhs, she's so cute.

  • I'm thinking about adopting, myself. It's great that you've documented these first moments to share with everyone! I'll be watching the other videos to see your progress...Thank you! :-)

  • God bless you... So pretty girl...

  • the ending was the cutest thing =) god bless you!

  • That was great!! I'm very happy for you all. You are blessed! She is a cutie!! People always say that the child is lucky. We know as parents we're the lucky ones.

  • your video is beautiful. It made me cry alot. I have a daughter who I adopted from Korea at 8 months old and is now 4 and I cant imagine my life without her. Your daughter is so beautiful. I love her little personality. Thank you for a beautiful video.
