People don't think nowadays that paper / parchment was once expensive. Even in the 18th century, people often wrote letters in both directions in order to save paper. I've seen these, they literally turned the page 90 degrees and wrote again on the same page. Such a shame how many ancient works have not survived the ages through flood, fire, moth, warfare and now this, recycling of parchment.
