I happen to Like the Way, Filipinos speak English was a Filipino accent, I also try and emulate it not to make fun but just because I enjoy it. All other countries that speak English as a second language have an accent that's just the way it is I have an accent when I speak Tagalog, duh!

whats funny is that when some people try to improve their english, with the accent stuff, others would say na kesyo maarte daw, then they'd follow with a laugh.

In my own experience I was ridiculed in front of the whole class in high school because it has become a habit for me to do an American accent when i speak english.When I read something on the board in english, they couldn't not stop themselves from laughing. Same goes with my teachers as well. Is it funny if I would want to sound right?

I am an ESL teacher and sometimes my Filipono coworkers laugh at me for saying a tagalog word with wrong accent. I tell them..."did you understand what I was saying?" they would reply YES. I do admit, Filipinos have an accent and so do other nationalities; but to claim that it's "okay" is just sad. I can't just go saying "hey, I'm gonna borrow your country's language, speak in whatever accent I want, and you'll just have to deal with it because I'm Filipino." Yes, I believe we Filipinos can speak better English than most other nationalities, but we shouldn't stop there; we should try to improve in all aspects of language, be it accent, grammar, or diction...because WE ARE GOOD. ;)

With regards to being made fun of, I think this stems from the confusion some of us Filipinos cause. e.g. asking for a "map" to wipe the floor instead of a "mop"; entering an electronics store and inquiring about a "bluckberry". I agree, unless it's for a comedy's sake to address a certain type of humor, we should refrain from making fun of other people's speech. Think of it this way: we don't laugh when we see someone slip on the floor, but we laugh when we watch Mr. Bean.

Just an observation: to the americans including fil-ams the filipino accent is not really made fun of. Its the filipino FOBs that make fun of their fellow countrymen.
