  • @aaron9099

I did see an old cop, but he was strolling down a lane full of leaves under a grayish sky all the time D:

  • @aaron9099 I either think of A Streetcar Named Desire or Death of a Salesman, the plays. Both with tragic, melancholy endings. I love Stan Getz! He GETZ me everytime. ;)

  • @hiphopopotamus5 Badum.CSshhhh

  • Here are some other west coast style sax players to check out! Zoot Sims, Gerry Mulligan, Richie Kamuca, Harold Land, Lee Konitz, Hank Mobley, Allen Eager, Herb Geller, Brew Moore, Teddy Edwards, Bud Shank, Paul Desmond, Art Pepper, Lucky Thompson, Frank Wess, Jimmy Guiffre, and Bill Holman.

  • @kingkoeller dont forget Sonny Stitt :)

  • @kingkoeller Or just go to the man who was the father of the cool school, Lester Young :)

  • @WindyCityJazz ahh serious ear,,elavation

  • In the “C” real book this song is usually performed in the Key of E minor. [1st chord A minor 7], however in this perfect version, Stan plays it in the key of C minor [ 1st chord F minor 7]. Stan along with Bob Cooper, Bill Perkins, and Al Cohn were under the Lester Young school of "West Coast " tenor saxophone playing even though Stan is from Long Island NY.

  • @kingkoeller I think Getz was born in Philly.

  • dodmen5 i think you,ll enjoy BEN WEBSTER,,

  • This is a great song however it is played.

  • its really good! i love it. im feeling it! anyway socialsax com have autumn leaves backing track. its free.

  • who the hell would dislike this song!

  • 26 people can't really hear the music they voted thumbs down on because they have their heads up their butts. Great tenor player, and his album of duets with Dave Brubeck is one of the top ten great albums of all time.

  • Damn...

  • So very smooth, sentimental, pleasing, soulful and true.

  • Guys Guys, I already spend about 500 for CDs and LPs, but keep it coming :) Many thanks for your recommendation.

  • I dont drink much, but this song gets me in the mood for a shot of martini

  • there should be a click that says 'magnificent' specifically for every Astrud video.

  • 23 people have no life

  • I am a sophomore at my high school and I play in the concert band, jazz band, pep band, you name it. I would consider myself a fairly accomplished musician if I do say so myself, but as with many students, I wouldn't say soloing is my strong suit. What jazz saxophonists do you think I should listen to the most? I need a jazz idol to look up to and shoot for with my improv. Thanks for any suggestions.

  • @rfoxfa1 Thats entirely for you to decide. Whichever saxman's music/sound you prefer, go with it. Transcribe one of their songs (start with something easy) and try to emulate them. Learn their style, inside and out. Learn what licks and syncopations they like to use. This puts you on your way to learn the jazz language. Listening, most of all, is the best way to learn to improv.

  • Comment removed

  • @rfoxfa1 I would say definetely the four greats Charlie Parker, John Coltrane, Sonny Rollons, and Coleman Hawkins. I personally listen to Coltrane and Hawkins.

  • @rfoxfa1 Michael Brecker, Coltrane, Dexter Gordon, Sonny Stitt, James Carter, Alex Han, Keith Anderson, Ronnie Cuber, Gerry Mulligan..... the list goes on and on :P

  • @rfoxfa1 since everyone whos commented on this has already said all of the vintage greats, il recomend the contemporary one's. Michael Brecker is extrordinarily beastly, chris potter is pretty good, and most definitely lenny pickett would be my recommendations

  • West Coast... the best...

  • Super like.

  • which to pick stan or dave both great to listen when feeling low, great music.......

  • Excelente.

  • OMG!!!! God Bless the Internet :)

  • Stan played a sweet horn. Reminds me of Lester Young playing .

  • @Dodmen1 I have some great Stan Getz on my reel/reel

See if you can find Stan Getz Collates and Stan Getz At The Shrine

SPOTIFY is a great source if you have,nt already got it?

    It,s a free download!

  • Quoi de plus magnifique que cela tant que ce n' est pas les feuilles de mes amis qui tombent. L' amour is sometimes dangerous.

  • Damn i wish i could play like this

  • Does someone know artists like Bill Evans with a trio, only Bass, Drums and Piano? I like that kind of jazz really much.

  • @Dodmen1 I REALLY ENJOY THE RED GARLAND TRIO,BUT HE IS MORE INTO A KIND OF "BOP" JAZZ.

WORTH A TRY. HOPE YOU LIKE IT.

  • Thanks all the people for the artists! They are definitely magnificent!

  • pure soul.

  • WOW!

  • @RichardisDead Getz woulg tell you never to stop..but make it your own.

  • Can someoe recommend more of this music like this? Sinatra and so on are good, but sometime I'm just in the mood for relaxing cool jazz like this...

  • @Dodmen1

All I can recommend is Lionel Hampton, or Chat Baker, and even Duke Ellington is cool, regards, Andy

  • @Fragensteller56 One and only Miles Davis :)

  • @Fragensteller56 Kind of Blue is a classic you must hear!

  • Since you like this number, I would try one of the compilations of Getz's ballad playing. A fine set is "Stan Getz Plays for Lovers" on Concord Jazz. And like Getz, Ben Webster was regarded as one of the greatest ballad players in jazz. Try his compilation "Ben Webster for Lovers" on Verve. (The latter includes one of the most gorgeous versions of My Funny Valentine ever recorded.) Enjoy.

  • @fresuf1 Was that to me? I will check them out.

  • @Fragensteller56

and any titles? guys I got addicted to those sounds...

  • @Fragensteller56 i DEFINITELY second *Chet Baker (spelling lol) check out his album "my funny valentine"

  • @Fragensteller56 Chet Baker*

  • @Dodmen1 Chet Baker definitely! You'll never hear anyone make the horn so smoooooth... and his voice is aother instrument! My 3 fav's : My Funny Valentine - instrumental vers ~ 5:35 min Almost Blue vers ~ 7:59 min This is Always vers ~ 7:58 min Enjoy!

  • @Dodmen1

try Masquerade is over by Nancy Wilson. If you need more just reply ill suggest something else.

  • @Adil888 More, more. A human can't have enough music.

  • @Dodmen1 try de cd Ballas by Dexter Gordon, i love it. Thanks to all those who upload this music here!!!!!!!

  • @Dodmen1 look for "Kind of Blue" by Miles Davis & Co.

  • @Dodmen1 Have you tried Paul Desmond? He played with Brubeck many years, but his solo work is very relaxing. He said he wanted to make the alto saxophone sound like a dry martini tastes. Also, harder to find, but a tenor player named Warne Marsh has one called 'The Ballad Album' that's very fine. Getz has an album with Kenny Barron (tenor sax and piano duets) called 'People Time'. Also, under Jim Hall's name there's an album called 'Concierto' with Desmond and Chet Baker, among others.

  • @Dodmen1 Cannonball and Miles Davis made a very good version of Autumn leaves, worth checkin' out

  • @Dodmen1 Jeff Stockham and Houston Person.

  • @Dodmen1 - You might also enjoy another velvet tenor man: Scott Hamilton.

  • @Dodmen1

Listen to Gerry Mulligan album Night Lights, it's very relaxing

    Hope you like it.

  • @Dodmen1 Try the cd "Coleman Hawkins Encounters Ben Webster". And surf youtube- every good song links to two more.

  • @Dodmen1

    Dave Brubeck is pretty cool

  • @Dodmen1 Oscar Peterson tambien

  • @Dodmen1 John Coltrane, dude. Miles Davis, Dizzy Gillespie, Theolonius Monk, Chet Baker, Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Louis Armstrong, George Gershwin.

  • @Dodmen1 This type of Jazz is called Brazilian Jazz or Bossa Nova. It tends to be more soulful and rhythmic which is why I like it too. If you like it just keep listening to more Brazilian Jazz / Bossa Nova. Stan Getz was one of its best artists so listen to more of his music. An album called ‘The Bossa Nova Years’ has all his best stuff, including How Insensitive, Samba Triste and The Girl From Ipanema. All beautiful. Also try a track called Favela by Rudy Van Gelder. It's soulful!

  • @TheBrightGrey thank you for the info...

  • @Dodmen1 Actually, there’s two albums with similar titles, ‘The Bossa Nova Albums’ and ‘The Bossa Nova Years’. Both include music by Stan Getz and Charlie Byrd, sometimes different versions of the same songs. I’d go for the 'The Bossa Nova Albums' out of the two.

  • @D odmen George Benson....Al Jerome

  • @Dodmen1 anything by Paul Desmond

  • @Dodmen1 Michael Franks' Art of Tea album is really good if you want relaxing tunes.

  • @Dodmen1 then wbgo.org is the radio station for you just click listen now

  • @Dodmen1 Try some Paul Desmond

  • @Dodmen1 check out duke ellington and john coltrane (thats the name of the album. Also check out stan gatz & J.J Johnson live at the opera house. Heck while you're at it check out In a jazz orbit by the Bill Holman big band and Kind of Blue by Miles Davis and Gil Evans. I have about a million suggestions, let me know if you need more.

  • @Dodmen1

Bill Evans, Stan Getz, Chet Baker, Freddie Hubbard, Clifford Brown...

  • @Dodmen1 ---charlie parker, oscar peterson, dexter gordon

  • @Dodmen1 Chet Baker is amázing, it's relaxing and romantic.

  • @Dodmen1

miles davis, the father of cool jazz (esp. "kind of blue")

  • @Dodmen1 An album by Jim Hall, "Concierto". It has a chill vibe to most of it, and has chet baker and paul desmond who were cool jazz players

  • @Dodmen1 If you liked this you'd probably like "Naima" By John Coltrane. (Listen to the Live version - waaay more soul)

  • @Dodmen1 miles davis, dave brubeck

  • @Dodmen1 Paul Desmond and Chet Baker.also check out Chilenian Perez with La Vela, the candle

  • Try Miles Davis, Kind of Blue. Also try anything he did with the Gil Evans orchestra, like Concierto de Aranjuez, Sketches of Spain, and Porgy and Bess, or any of the Mild Davis Cool Jazz CDs you can find on Amazon.com. In movies try end title of Taxi Driver and Chinatown. The entire soundtrack to Prince of the City is wonderful.

  • @Dodmen1 Stan Getz's bossa nova period is just amazing, very relaxing. The "ballads" album by Coltrane or Paul Desmond's discography are also excellent.

  • @Dodmen1

What you, my friend, are looking for, is what's known as cool jazz. If you're looking for something like stan getz, try Paul Desmond (or the Dave Brubeck Quartet, which he played with), Scott Hamilton, Bill Evans, Frank Wess, Chet baker, early Miles Davis, Gerry Mulligan, Art Pepper, Lester young, and Zoot Sims, just to name a few. Hope this helps.

  • @Dodmen1 ....Cannonball Adderley

  • @Dodmen1 jazz, like any art form, is percieved differently by everyone who comes in contact with the medium. miles davis "back seat betty" "round about midnight" fit the mold perfectly. Very smooth, very much bedroom eyes music. sonny rollins? check what he did with dizzy gillespie-on the sunny(sonny?) side of the street. Duke ellingtons Caravan is smooth, and one from up round canada way? oscar peterson. check his album "the continental" you'll find what you seek

  • @greezeyD The continental is a album from Oscar? Because i couldn't find anywhere not even on amazon...

  • The master

  • Quelle sensibilité...

  • @Thekingofpop1958 man you can't say he was the god. That's such a disputable claim. Hell, i really dig Sonny Rollins.

  • i can't help but cry. All of my memmories came fooding back.

  • i dont want this to end....

  • Amazing performance!

  • This is the reason why i like Youtube

  • @Ailliouspersona

the only reason basically why im on youtube anyway. its a portal to the past!

  • STAN IS THE MAN!!!

  • Bliss

  • One of my favorite songs and one of my favorite musicians. All in one. Classic music!

  • OMG.Getz doesn't get enough credit.This is heaven.

  • Didn't Johnny Mercer write this one?

  • @keithiepoo - Joseph Kosma wrote the music in about 1945 - Jacques Prévert wrote the original lyrics 'Les feuilles mortes' which was first sung by Yves Montand. Johnny Mercer wrote the English lyrics a couple of years later. All the best Dorris

  • Thank you MISSY....lov you !!!!!! Mwahhhh....

  • Hi nice music list!! I play saxophone (also online on youtube) and most inspiring musicians to me are on your list. :)

  • This song is very beautiful ... when I listen to it I am overwhelmed by nostalgia

  • @Thekingofpop1958 LOL!! I don't really care for sax BUT I love Stan Getz!! He has the warmest, most sensual sound I ever hear from a sax, Gives me goose bumps :-)

  • I am new to this music...Stan Getz and Gilberto...my brother bought this album when he was working at HMV...its now one of my favorite CD...thank you Daleep.

  • @ravisingh76 What album is it on?

  • Stan Getz " The Sound"

  • he was an alcoholic, drug addict, ex-con, tax dodger, wife beater, failed suicide(twice), a bank robber, and a genius who had an amazing tone. The anti-hero of jazz, one of many few.

  • @pwnmaster9 alcohol and drugs come with the territory.

  • muito sensual

  • Merci fragensteller56 pour les informations. STAN GETZ est excellent

  • @Thekingofpop1958 how can someone not like the tenor sax... i can see someone not liking the soprano..but STILL!!!

  • el saxo se hizo para tocarlo como lo hace stan getz. no hay alguien que se le semeje. es un ensueño escucharle, te deleita oir las notas que salen de su instrumento, que maravilla...!

  • Thanks for publishing this song here in you tube... this is one of the best versions I heart of it.

    thanks.

  • ES GENIAL!

  • Getz / Smith / Shavers / Norvo, 1947: I Got Rhythm

  • Sensitive and poetic...elegant and eloquent. Thank you for posting and to

    paulostroff99 for sharing this masterpiece.

  • Awesome!

  • Awesome!

  • this is one of the most if not the MOST beautifulest song i have ever experienced. it takes me places every time i hear it. i can feel the passion Stan Getz plays with in this. thank you for posting

  • Musica muito apurada, limdo um presente para os ouvidos!!!!!!!

  • Oh man, just oh man. By all accounts, Stan was a difficult man to be around and to converse with. It's amazing that such an ear for beauty could be so surly. Same, by the way, is true of another great artist with the gentlest musical soul, Joao Gilberto. He too is considered to be an ugly guy in person, but what a beautiful musician.

  • @JeezizEffinChrist

maybe he just realised 99% of people on the planet are total shitheads so he preferred music

  • Yea lots of shitheads where ever i go they are but some times i see wonderful people and smile inside

  • sounds like it should sound.. dead leaves.. composed in France.. romantic, subtle and gloom. its how it should be

  • @xWatChYouRHeaDx -Same song!!!

  • Vittu täähän svengaa

now ask some one who knows finnish what tha means!
