  • I'm not trying to be creepy or anything, but can we Ever see your face? -love your videos-

  • This is really interesting, never knew stuff like this existed for blind people or anyone for that matter. Now I hope scientist are working on computers that interface directly with the brain.

  • Today I actually happened to be thinking about how I could continue my channel and my atheism essays and videos if I went blind. This is really cool, I love it!

  • Greetings from Germany.

Thank you for the explanations that I needed these, to understand.

This is awesome, it leaves me speechless and with wet eyes.

I am inclined to call you, and the creative pople that would engineer this technique for you, GENIUS.

Being blind would devastate me - bcz I am a breeder of ornamentals.

  • WOW,.... Nice..... she looks pretty...., i thought she's naked hahahhaa.....

  • are you wearing glasses there?? lol what would be the point of that?

  • @SyrupTheSavvySavage Sunglasses, and yeah, I really do need those...

  • I have a friend named Marie in college that used this program. I never got to actualy see her use it though, because we never hung out in her room. I think she was afraid of being taken advantage of, lol. To bad I could not keep in touch with her dispite my efforts. I really liked her.

  • Woah, you can use a computer without a monitor... Thats... Awesome! Now if my monitor breaks i know what to do! :D

BTW i have a question, how does that text reader program handle comments with bad grammar or misspellings? or even them people who use numbers instead of letters sometimes? The ones ive tried in the past have been pretty bad but i haven't used one in about 8 years so im sure they have gotten better lol

  • @element1988 You can actually set up a lexicon, I have done that with the most common 1337 speak and smileys. The program will then read whatever you've told it this should be read as...

  • I was trying to place that female voice on your computer. unfortunately, I am not sure if its Microsoft sally or a female version of HAL-9000. anyway,I use OS X with voiceover. I also have no use for a mouse (even though its still plugged in). I am still learning how to use voiceover after more than 2 months (I started because i could no longer read large print). Still, web browsing by voice is sure slow.

Anyway, at least I know there are more people who are blind out here.

  • You need to get a bigger monitor, that one is too small. JK

  • Thank you for sharing this; it is of particular interest to me as I have a family member who is blind. I have off-times tried to imagine his internet experience, and I believe you just shown me! May I congratulate you on your mental and physical dexterity? I'll be watching more of your videos but I already know you are elegant, eloquent, smart and good looking. Nice mix!

I'm off to send a long overdue e-mail to my blind Christian nephew.

    Cheers.

  • would be nice to see your eyes/face

  • i heard scientists cured blindness using stem cells

  • awesome!

  • wow,,, your soo cool,,, as if your not ashamed with your imperfction,,,

,,, i try to cover my eyes and try be bline using my cp and its really hard.....

  • Hello! I'm quite interested 2 hear what U think would improve your U Tube experience. I can understand how U benefit from many of the videos sighted people enjoy; However, I wood like 2 help make it easier 4 all people 2 get every bit of information they can. Beyond braille code in the video stream, with described video content; I can't seem 2 think of anything that wood B remotely useful. It's a conceptualization problem U seem ideally suited 2 help me understand. Thanks very much 4 what U do!

  • as for how she can type: didn't anybody ever wonder why they have those little bumps on the F and J and 5 keys? by the way, those innovations aren't just for blind people; they also make it easy to find the home keys without looking. as a side note, i don't even touch-type, so it would be a difficult transition for me.

  • this is absolutely amazing...it was much as i imagined it, actually, but quite interesting to watch :) now, i want all of you to imagine just how difficult this would be. you would literally have to construct a webpage inside your mind: an entire conceptual framework, built by YOU. just think about how many people prefer to have images fed to them on tv/movie/computer screens, instead of creating worlds in their minds purely with words(from books, etc.)...just imagine how hard THIS'd be...

  • your blind and you type faster than me

and you look better than me :P

  • Thanks for the insight on how the blind use computers. Much appreciated!

  • the ending was brilliant

  • There is a completely free, and open-source screen reader called NVDA. It is very similar to the one used in the video, but it is free, and open-source, and can be loaded on a memory stick, and transported to any computer without the need to install.

  • Thanks for the demonstration; always good to know that in addition to suddenly becoming mute or deaf, being blind isn't as bad nowadays when it comes to the possibillity of acquiring information.

  • your awesome

  • Now what happens when it is given non-english text?

Taksan iy retlas pakdor sy res palsab tasnik dasan ly.

  • That is pretty awesome @Atheistblindchick. As a software developer, I try to make things that people can use with ease-of-access software, so it is wonderful to see such things being used.

  • "I'm not naked".... lol, classic! }|<oD

Hmm, after typing that, I'm going to wager a guess that supernova won't recognize cow-shaped smileys. Would be an awesome feature, though!

  • Hmpf... especially when youtube messes up the smiley to begin with. }|:o/

  • I personally like using a combination of voice programs, and voice recog programs :D... I'm not blind, but I love using tools like that :D

  • Hi.

    Thank you for the demonstration.

Do you use a similar program to edit your videos?

    Peter.

  • That mouse joke was so lame that I had to laugh nice one... :)

  • You're freaking AMAZING!!!!

  • Blind and psychic :O How did you know what all the guys we're thinking.. :P

But cool speech program and you put it on slow?? Cool :)

  • Interesting. I'd never thought very much about it. I think I'll check into accessibility when making my own websites.

  • I didn't even consider the fact that you COULD have had problems with using the computer, despite your youtube name being atheistblindchick. I don't know if it was me ignoring "blind", not actually thinking, or just knowing that there's support for it, though :P

  • u should show us your eyes

  • The voice sounds like Sigourney Weaver!

  • is she wearing glasses?

  • Yes It's shades. Blind people has eyes that looks creepy often so the use shades.

  • sure dumbass, just get a razxorbalde and shove it in,. then you can feel special that you have a disability. too bad your life will still suck even if you do that.

  • Sorry I missed your Q&A as I was out of town but these videos were great.

I still am curious how you actually cut your videos. I am not asking that you personally address my query but with each answered question 3 more come to mind.

No matter how you actually do it, keep making all the great atheist videos.

  • Very interesting. Does spelling present much of a problem with this program? Especialy when some people tend to use "Text talk" or "Leet Speek".

And another thing. I may be in a minority here, but why should it matter if your naked or not? You can achive so much with ease despite your lack of site and I for one would would be more interested in what you have to say rather than how much or little clothing you war.

  • Very enlightening, thank you for sharing. The part of your chocolate brown shirt that goes around the back of your neck was readily apparent for most of the video, it never occurred to me that you might be topless. I guess your mentioning it was due to a plethora of uncouth fourteen year old males hooting and hollering at any attractive woman they see on the internet. We all have our trolls, I find it's best to ignore them.

  • I'm happy to be the 200th 5 star rating - great vid!

  • I'm dying to see your face!!

  • ABC, thanks for posting this! You just answered a lot of the questions I've had since I met you - so now I never need to ask ya again! :-)

  • blind chicks are hot

  • cool

  • What a hottie!!!

  • you are incredible. im impressed and in awe!!

    enjoy your sunday!!

  • Very interesting.

  • haha dirty penis

  • Filthy in fact.

  • haha

  • Maybe its sensory overload, but I wasn't able to discern much of what your program was saying.

P.S: How come you are so fit?

  • I can't imagine what your experience of YouTube is like... I'm very visually oriented, and for me at least 70% is seeing the world through YouTube...

  • Your monitor is on and I'm reading your email. Just kidding.

Thanks for your behind the scenes look. Take care and peace back to you, ABC.

  • cool

  • Yay! We get to see the back of your lovely head!

Maybe make the next one with your hair down?

  • heh, that was a response to one of my comments

  • Thank you for that look into your world. One that i've never seen.

  • cool video. Quite informative about the software and all that. Plus, my wife likes to wear her hair the same way, and I really like that too, looks very feminine, attractive and unconventional.

  • freetaught, you done good son

  • Yes, I done! Thanks! :)

  • Lol yer welcome, hook me up with her sister you lucky git. :)

    Have a great day sir

  • I was curious how much longer it would take to navigate web pages and the like, but it's certainly much, much faster than what I'd be able to do if I unplugged my mouse.

  • jeez you type really fast! btw did you try vista and the new voice recognition program? it works like a charm with me.

  • So I've been wondering how a blind person takes a shower. I hope you make a video of that soon! Just kidding. Love your videos. Keep up the good work.

  • Dang! Not naked! lol

Actually, I saw the strap of cloth across your neck. :-) And I imagine your using the computer must be a marvellous thing to listen to. :-)

  • After you've habituated to it, yeah, it's ok! But I prefer to take the driver seat whenever possible.

  • Ok. Off subject. Actually I never really wondered how you used a computer. I figured that if there was a will there was a way. You are pretty damned good at pretty much anything you want to do. What I want to know is. Are you and Freetaught cohabiting? Has he moved to UK? If so. I think that is GREAT! You both deserve to have someone caring and loving in your lives. I am sure you make a wonderful couple.

  • Unfortunately not, he's going back to the US by the end of the summer :(

But the past 3 months have been wonderful!

  • I am sorry to hear that. Maybe things will work out in the future if you two decided to make a more permanent thing. :) My best wishes for you two.

  • You seem to sometimes look at your hands.

    Reflex?

If I went blind, I don't think I'd ever be able to use a computer. I've learned to type on several occasions, but I still have to look at the keyboard. I mean, I have a general idea of where the keys are, but that's it. This last sentwnce was tupes without lookinf ans wirhiut the bacjspace jey.

  • Can you explain how you navigate web sites and the screen in general without ever missing any critical parts? It seems really difficult to me.

  • The first time I visit a site, I go slow, till I know where everything is located...

I'm sure I miss some critical parts at times, though. And some sites are absolutely not accessible...

  • @Atheistblindchick why do you have a moniter?

  • @cake1834 Because I'm not the only one who uses that computer. Freetaught does so as well.

  • that program is the coolest thing. Thanks for sharing it with us. :)

  • Wow, amazing!

    I'd be totally fucked!

  • LOL... last comment very funny..

Love the video... great to see the behind the scenes at atheistblindchick

  • Very interesting, but I'm curious - do you usually have the monitor on or did you only have it on to show us?

  • Just for you, it's usually turned off.

  • Why bother having one at all? Why not save the cost?

  • Wow.. thanks for the insight!

    -Vogter2100

  • Wait, is that how Freetaught sounded when he was courting you? LOL

  • Voice synthesizers are awesome! it isn't perfect yet, but it has been in the making for 30 years or more.

  • But how can you type if you can't see, for crying out loud?

    Very cool, ABC.

  • I'll let you in on the secret. I have captured and enslaved several fairies, who type for me... I knew the secret would have to come out some day...

  • @hairyreasoner Same way I can type with my eyes closed. Muscular memory

  • Cool... "Supernova" seems much more advanced than "Jaws"(the text to speech software that I have used) ★★★★★

    Katalyzt

  • Thanks for sharing your methods with the curious among us.

    Peace.

  • You're weren't naked but what you were wearing was sexy.

  • This is so badass.

  • You shouldn't have had to "justify" or "prove" yourself. Don't pander to those morons who can't explore or work things out for themselves.

  • Not justifying, but a lot of people were curious as to how exactly I could use a computer. I got a lot of questions regarding that on my questions video, so I thought I'd show them how the software workds...

  • Nice. Good to know that if I ever go blind I don't have to give up computers forever.

  • Yeah,

I think it makes sense for someone who is blind to still be able to type. After all, i type with little more then muscle memory, Never looking at the keyboard. I`m sure it could still work that way. However its probably Reasonable to assume a raised relief of some kind on the keys would be of assistance, Though perhaps not entirely necessary.

  • If you take a look at your keyboard, you'll notice a little bump or raised line on the j and the f.

    I also have some stick on thingies so that I can easly identify certain keys like the tab, the zero and the ;

  • Hey, i never noticed those before! heh, yes Id imagen that would provide a very good Frame of reference for where the keys are located. Very interesting.

  • Do people actually ask you questions like this? WOW.

  • Everything we percieve we percieve with our senses. We might need tools, but if these objects or other things can be detected by our tools, it means it can then be detected by our senses via these tools. So anything that couldn't be perceived by our senses, even with the help of tools, can not be known by human beings. So no, there is no proof for that, and it will remain fantasy.

  • But they are not out of the five senses realm. Everything we find is in the realm of our five senses. So no, we have no proof there is even a sixth sense.

  • Hey, there ABC. Does Supernova-Heather only have an American accent? Or did you choose that one because you're so enamored with us Yanks? ;)

  • Actually, I also have brittish voices (Audrey and Charles) but they go crazy with american spelling... So I mostly use Heather

I mean, yeah, I love you yanks, that's why I use Heather ;)

  • Well then, I knew the rest of the planet loved us... we yanks need only a sliver of confirmation that we are the adoration of the rest of the planet... hehe ;)

Be well, lass. I one day would absolutely love nothing more than traveling your way and (though I'm aware of your very warranted fear of showing yourself) having the privilege of buying you a pint. Worry not, I'm not a powerful lad, and by the look of it, your boyfriend would put me in my place if I tried anything less than savory lol

  • Infra red light is LIGHT, we can't see it because our senses are not powerful enough, though with tools to amplify it, we see it, it is still LIGHT.

Microwaves are WAVES, the same waves we get with our ears, though they are shorter, therefore to catch the waves, we need tools, but they are still WAVES.

  • Hi montrealpsycho, microwaves are also light. They are electromagnetic waves/photons just like visible light or infrared light only longer.

  • I know. I wanted to make it simpler to him to understand. Light is moving in waves.

  • Wow, that program is awesome!

  • Thank you for showing us your tutorial. And apparently people have not heard about touch typing.

  • Proven that there are things outside the realm of our natural senses? Not quite. We all know that there are things outside out actual competences fields, but never was it said that it was outside of the realm of our natural senses. There might be, but there is no proof of that.

  • Woo, pushing the ABC invisibility envelope.

    Well rehearsed!

    To Mr. E. Camera man;

    Mind you not that I,

    express my envy but thanks,

    to you all the same.

  • How about videos that have only text? I am sure I seen you comment on those videos...

It is a shame, you cannot see how handsome I am. *Evil grin*

  • Fascinating! Thinking about this software, I'm wondering how it copes with closed captions — I'm mentally reviewing some of my videos where text appears embedded in the visuals, and whether closed captions would make that text accessible?

  • Unfortunately, closed caption is part of the flash player, and SuperNova does not read those...

But freetaught reads it to me, so I have a solution :)

  • Wait, how do you type if you're really blind?

Sorry, you basically challenged me to do it.

  • Was that a serious question?

  • That is amazing, I never knew something like that existed.

  • Vision seems so important when you have it, but we become resourceful when we need to. We work with what we have. Excellent video, and thank you for sharing, ABC.

  • So if you get a video that is all text, you're kind of screwed, right?

  • Actually, many YT users are quite willing to send ABC transcripts of their videos.

  • I'm sure of it. Most people are pretty decent, and even more so (I would think) within our community. I just meant that if she brings up a video and starts watching it, there is no translation program.

  • True. But I have freetaught here to read to me, so that's great. As he said, pretty much anyone I ask will send me a transcript, and some YTers even do so without me asking. YT atheists are decent people :)

  • By definition the "super natural" can not be tested by scientific means but a REASONABLE person can conclude that demons are not real because of the utter lack of evidence. Carl Sagan said it best when he said he was agnostic on alien life. He, like many atheist will wait for all the information to get in before ruling on that idea.

  • Thanks, ABC! But by the reflection in the monitor, it sure looked like you were naked. You should wipe those nipple looking spots from your screen.

    Just kidding.

  • Amazing! How long did it take you to get up to the speed you are currently at (with the text to speech, commands, and understanding all the information coming at you)?

    Once again, amazing!

  • I think it took about a month to learn to use the software. As for the speed, I have no idea. I gruadually speeded up the voice, I slowed it down for the video actually....

  • It's interesting how you seem to cater to us with visual sense. You have a monitor there but you really don't need one, so was that for us to see or is it for someone else to use? The end of the video is a little disappointing though.

  • Usually it is turned off. You are correct in assuming that ABC left it on for her subscribers.

I do, however, use the mintor quite often.

  • The monitor is for freetaught, but I do sometimes turn it on, just for the light.

  • how very interesting. i know this is something i have wondered about for quite a while.

  • Thanks for this video, very informative.

  • A friend of mine that I contact on a p2p program has software similar to this, or the same; I don't remember the name. I didn't know he was blind until some weeks after we'd been talking.

  • There are a lot of blnd people on the internet, and you'd never be able to tell unless they'd let you know...

  • Indeed. I was certainly surprised when I found out, and impressed that the software had already been created. I imagined such software would come about "in the future," but didn't realize that the future was now.

  • millions of people touch type and yet there are idiots who think you can't?

my only real comment is... you have such beautiful hair, it was a treat to glimpse a little more of the awesome ABC.

  • Yup, even in the last month I had I think 3 people make that comment....

Thanks, my friend. Hope all's well in the US. Having fun?

  • " No one better ask me again how I can type, if I'm "really" blind. I have ten fingers that still work perfectly... "

people have really asked this question? really? That's kind of ironic. I guess these guys are the one's that don't know how to type.

  • I think they meant to ask her how she knows what keys go where....

They've never heard of Brail, and I'm sure they've never played with the words to speech function she uses, and I played with in the computer lab of my high school. I'm betting they haven't looked at the features their computer has.

You are right. It is Ironic. Which makes me smile.

  • Who is "Ensiten"? The difference between a possible intelligent being living so far away from us that the light has not even traveled this far is much more plausible than an evil being that only a handful of people claim to see with zero evidence. There is also the fact that no one is praying to intelligent life on the other side of the universe.

  • Waitaminit...you're BLIND???

    ;)

  • That was fascinating. Thanks for the glimpse into blind chick technology. I am glad it works so well and brings you to us subscibers.

  • Sexy tummy has been joined by sexy shoulders.

    :)

  • Don't forget neck and hair.

  • ABC,

As amazing as the program is I think your ability to understand the voice at that speed is even more amazing. lol.

Just curious. Do you have a regular keyboard or does it have any textures on the keys to help you know where your hands are on the keyboard?

Thank you for sharing this with us.

  • I've seen a keyboard sold on, I believe it was think geek, where it is not marked with letters. The idea is that it trains us seeing people not to glance down at the keyboard and thus to improve our ability to type more quickly and accurately. If I am typing on a keyboard only printed in Arabic, for example (but the computer treating as English) I find I can type pretty well if I force myself not to glance down all of the time.

  • Is that a ring I see on your left hand? Are you Mrs. Atheist Blind Chick?

  • Many Muslims also believe that demons live in toilets, just another attempt by a feeble minded people to explain the world the best way they knew how.

  • That was incredibly interesting!

  • I figured you used some sort of program. My brother is legally blind, his vision is like 20/70 with correction. He had to learn how to read Braille when he was younger just in case his vision got worse. Thanks for sharing that with us.

  • Sounds like an ingenious program. I'm glad you're online.

  • You have nice shoulders

  • Wow! That is ingenious.

  • Safe mode is the creator with belief though never once saw the face.

  • amazing indeed....thanks for sharing this with us :)

  • amazing!

  • Do you even need a monitor?

  • Admired. I am not going to say any old cliche that you've probably heard before, because i know how that one feels. May i recommend a song with no malice or conjecture?

Its just that when one loses a naturally given sense, they gain another. I see that were ever i go.

I talked to someone for two hours on a plane one day flying to America. She was blind and i was, lets say, mentally blind. We were traveling alone, we saw clouds and how high we were. We walked down the steps...I Miss her a lot

  • well you learn something new every day. thanks, abc.

  • Interesting video, thanks for posting it :-)

Can I ask, why are you wearing glasses?

BTW the list of recommended YouTubers in your profile is missing TheraminTrees.

Best wishes from Wellington, New Zealand :-)

  • Her eyes are like,I think that gray color? And some people might find it weird? Idk...or maybe the light hurts? Or maybe she likes the feel of 'em? Who knows..And would you say she...brings..sexy "back"? Muwahahaha...aaaahahaa lol! I'm a loser..ok bye.

  • I'm wearing sun glasses, because the room needed to be bright for the video and I'm very photophobic.

  • Atheist blind chick.

My uncle who is blind has photophobia as well. He jokingly states that the reason he took a position working in the x-ray department of a children's hospital was so he could work in the dark. He also has only one arm and yet still manages to beat me when we go cross country skiing. Have you ever heard of the Ski for Light organization? The goal of the organization is to teach blind, visually and mobility impaired adults how to cross country ski. It's really fun.

  • wait... you were not naked? I didn't expect that. Why didn't you let me being ignorant about this? LOL just joking
