Had he fallen down with a massive stroke or cardiac arrest seconds later, I would not have been surprised. These old cylinders posed a problem in copying that disk records do not have.
I hope he had made a tape or CD of this cylinder prior to this ?

Poor guy shaking all over. Then again, what the fuck did he eat and inhale, to be *this* shaky?? (NO, it is NOT because of age. It just comes with age, since it takes that long of a time of wrongdoing, to develop. He must have eaten disgusting amounts of industrial waste sold as “food”.)
I agree I think this is fake. I don't see how a black wax cylinder would be "one of a kind", he even has a Gold Moulded case on the table. His hands are insanely shaky to be handling something as rare as he makes it out to be, and cylinders don't just explode in your hand. He had to squeeze that sucker pretty nicely to get it to shatter like that. Either all that or he's just a plain fool... probably both.
@moortak They are not insanely rare; you just don't find many people in your average circle of friends that have them. Before I started collecting them, before eBay was popular, I too thought they were rare and many are. The same as any format record, some are impossibly rare and some are very common. You can buy a cylinder for as little as $2 and as high as you can imagine. Gold Moulded is common, but much more fragile and rare than say a Blue Amberol. Cylinders were made from ~1888-1929.
Wait a minuet! Black Wax = mass produced... Brown or Grey wax was for home recording purposes... so how is it one of a kind? Most black wax records arent that hard to find if you're in the right places
I wonder what he means by one of a kind. I have a lot of those wax cylinders. They are not rare at all, but when you play them they sound exactly the way he described it after he broke it.
Actually it is not a one-of-a-kind cylinder because the trademark you can see on the right edge before he broke it indicated it was a mass-produced moulded record, not one that was individually cut. This guy did not really know as much about cylinders as he thought he did.
As sad as this happens to be... I still can't help but laugh when I see it... It's not the breaking of the wax cylinder that's funny, it's the man's reaction and then the reaction of Chris... haha.
Man I feel bad for that guy, but seriously he shouldn't have been handling it. Hell, I wouldn't have touched it and my hands are no where NEAR as shaky as his are.
I was demonstrating one of my faves to a friend. When I went to take it off the machine I pushed too hard and it shot across the table and cracked. I was able to get another copy, but it was nowhere near as clean. I learned quickly after that.
Check out "Jezzebelle How Long" for an actual cylinder recording session.
His shaking was the biggest issue. If he wasn't rocking back and forth so wildly the worst he would have done was warp the cylinder...
Really, I mean, I know some people get a "feel" for things, but you think he would have been SOME level of reluctant to hold it like that ever, shaking or not.

@bmoxco It was an Edison era wax recording cylindder. They are insanely rare, very delicate, and basically weren't produced after WW1.

the cylinders outside form should not be touched by fingers. Two fingers should be placed in that hole to prevent the damage of recorded file.
