  • wonderful music, but horribly, and I mean horribly mimicked by the actor.

  • too bad the ators didnt take the pains to make their viola playing a little more corresponding to the actual notes

  • Does anyone know what this piece called? It's Beautiful, would love to know its name!

  • @Jordeclaration

The name of the piece is "Les Pleurs". You can find it on the soundtrack CD "Tous les matins du monde" played by Jordi Savall.

  • @leonardo667

Thank you so much! I've been looking everywhere for the name!

  • @Jordeclaration Its called Les pleurs from les tombeau des regrets...its gorgeous I have played it many times :)

  • @laila076 Thank you!! It truly is beautiful! Could listen to it for hours! :)

  • I love his first-finger trill at about 4 seconds in! Favorite scene in the movie! I used to fast-forward to this scene for people and say 'Watch this trill!'.

  • @cammigurlgonewild - where did you get the music for it (for cello)? I'd love to learn it...

  • I love and hate this piece. I saw this movie with the only girl I have loved. It's been 10 years and I'm still in this place. Heart gets dry indeed. And all you see it's darkness and knives.

  • @solnegrolunaroja No matter what life throws at you, you must always strive to evolve your own personal self and try to see the wider future, thers an even better girl out there somewhere all you have to do is let go and stop fixating on the past otherwise you will never move forward, check out NLP, anchors, triggers and such, i`m pretty sure it will help you.

  • @thrillseeker70 Thank you for your kind words, I need to hear that. I met a girl these days, you are absolutely right about moving forward!

  • perhaps the most beguiling scene in colour cinematography

  • @dworciochrupcio

sorry darling, I'm 17 now, but currently taken :P Still love this piece and i learned it on my cello :)

  • @cammigurlgonewild

    Lucky BF.

  • Tu es tres stupide

  • Really Touching

  • The book and the movie are on the school program for last year highschool students in litterature classes. I feel lucky :)

  • Probably one of the saddest and most beautiful pieces of film in existence. It's a painting.

  • Does anybody knows if I can get the sheet music for this?

  • beautiful

  • Absolutely adored this film. The music so moving, so passionate, s soothing in nature. Thank you very much for sharing it with us all.

  • some things simply are...

  • I didn't realize i'd get so much feedback....

  • That kind of devotion is abnormal and sick. Move on dood!

  • @chelseagurl97 obviously you have never truly loved someone, not been loved.

  • @bklynbroker See what a wormy false little snapping turtle you are, you couldn't resist writing that I have personally never been loved to wound me for speaking a truth. You can just cancel yourself out from even thinking about love. Sure he is creating nice music but the man is getting spectral lap dances and living in a chicken coop, yes,I question his mental health.

  • " Nothing dry more fast that one woman's tear..."

" Rien ne sèche plus vite qu'une larme de femme..."

    ( John Webster )

    :)

  • Stunning, simple as that...........

  • Boy, there sure are great acoustics in that little wooden hole-in-the-wall of a room!

  • Then how should it actually sound like?

  • I must say it completely spoils the scene, I'm sorry to say. I'm only a guitar player but this is so obvious JP Marielle acts instead of being the musician. That's the difference between 'theater trained' actors and method actors I guess. I must say JP Marielle usually plays comedies and he was brilliant in this rather dramatic movie.

  • As much as I could ponder Fooperson's point about all the actors that could have used more realistic instrumental technique, I could also easily imagine many people making his point without "foo"-ing it up with his needless use of the "F"-word.

  • because of this movie I knew about viola de gamba.

  • This scene depicts the epitomy of loss.

  • As touching and beautiful the song and the emotion of this scene is, the complete disregard of the actor to even try to fucking ACT like he is playing the instrument completely ruins it for me.

The guy shoud've at least tried to learn a little bit of the song, or the director should have positioned the camera so we couldn't see the actor's fingers fumbling around randomly. What's even worse is that there are countless other scenes in the movie where it's clearly obvious this actor isnt playing

  • FoolPerson,

Its clear you didn´t become aware of the great state of the art movie shocking everyone who watched it. Or your words didnt be written. The fingers of actor, it really does matter to you?

  • @FooPerson: I have the same problem, I tend to look away and just listen because if this :)

  • why cant i stop my tears when i watch this scene..?

  • cuz the music goes deep down in your heart

  • Magnifique !!!

  • I adore this film...where can you buy a dvd of it? i've tried everywhere in UK

  • it comes in a boxed set of Depardieu films & is pretty expensive but Love Film do it a lot cheaper

  • mm, try Amazon France

  • Try on the Internet! =)

  • C'est Magnifique: Our French Huguenot Heritage!

  • Just beautiful

The real player is JORDI SAVALL.

  • This is one of my favourite films, I've watched it countless times & also have the music on my iPod. This scene is so beautiful and moving. The cinematography is superb every scene is like a painting

  • One of the best moments in music

    and cinematography combined.

    Thanks for posting.

  • I tried to answer at your message on your mail box, but I don't have access, and my answer is too long.

Conclusion, according to Jonatha Dunford : nobody can know about Sainte Colombe religion.

  • I love this film.

  • whoaaa..! whats this all about?

  • too bad that this is noot a cello

  • It is quite apparent that the cello playing eminates from a recording (or elsewhere) because his finger placements and bow movements do not match the music being heard.

Although, this only slighlty degrades the beauty of the scene.

  • It's not a cello. It is a viola da gamba. This is an entirely different instrument.

  • It itself is not a viola da gamba rather "viola da gamba" refers to any one of a family of bowed, fretted, stringed musical instruments developed in the 1400s and used primarily in the Renaissance and Baroque periods, thus what you see is not indeed a cello but a precusor of what we know today as a cello.

  • No, It is a viola da gamba. I have one and my teacher has written a book on the subject. Also, the viola da gamba is not exactly a precursor to the cello. They are from completely different schools of instruments. In fact, the guitar is closer to the viola da gamba than the cello if you research the subject. I am a keen student of the gamba and can recommend some texts if you are interested. Cheers.

  • splendido film...

  • JEAN PIERRE MARIELLE

    A GREAT ACTOR

  • Thank you for uploading this to youtube. This movie is a work of art.

  • Les Pleurs:)

  • superb and passionate film.

  • I feel as though the composer is talking to me...

  • this movie is so beautiful, so touching and emotional. I love it. First saw it in philosophy class.

  • So touching... I saw the film in early 90-ies and I still remember the atmosphere, the music captured me, the story too... Maybe the first time that I prefere the film rather than a book- it is because of this wonderful music!!!

  • he's not dreaming of her. the music brought her back to him. he made the music so that she comes back. 'tous les matins du monde' it's a book by pascal quignard.

  • Skønt gambespil!

  • I'm a 14 year old girl, most girls my age are listening to Hannah Montana and love High school musical, but this, this is for me.

  • Speaking as a gambist, this warms my heart.

  • woohoo more of you!

  • @cammigurlgonewild wish i had found myself at your age. it's admirable. but i started about two years later... at the age of sixteen i started to listen tu such music and desperately fell in love with it... i think it's for ever.) so i hope i can say i understand.

  • @cammigurlgonewild that's awesome :) i'm 14 too...i thought i was the only ! haha

  • @cammigurlgonewild

    i love it all...

can't describe how music makes me feel.

  • @cammigurlgonewild You are wise beyond your years; so lucky not to be caught up in the mainstream rubbish just because it is popular.

  • @cammigurlgonewild All the same you should keep an open ear because good music is always being made-today, tommorrow and yesterday. Do not let the bigots of the past preclude you from the future because it justifies their mouldy existence.

  • @cammigurlgonewild

Glad to hear some youth still discover and consider «olde musicke»

    Not with fashion's eyes

    Nor with Hist'ry sights

But with heart and ears delight'd

For it lift our soul and life.

  • @cammigurlgonewild That's how it has to be, stay close to it, girl, don't leave it anymore, cause it's about the essence of living. That's what I've done to, and believe me, you'll see much more in life than the others.

  • @cammigurlgonewild

There is hope for humanity when there are still a few whom recognize the garage from what is demo corp. pop culture (e.g. - Disney and Twilight), and what elegance and truth really is. I love this film and other folk songs such as 'Malaguena Salerosa' and 'Saint-Preux & Danielle Licari-Concerto pour une voix '. Jahbless from California.

  • @cammigurlgonewild good...this is the best stuff...i am a cartoonist and I love it!

  • @cammigurlgonewild You are such a lucky child ... follow your instinct and your soul. You'll never regret !

  • @cammigurlgonewild

    Hannah Montana? .... lol........

    good choice for music

  • @cammigurlgonewild If you like this it does not mean that you shouldn't listen to Hannah Montana if you really like her.

  • @allegromarcato

    I don't like her.

  • @allegromarcato @cammigurlgonewild she just said that she's not influenced by the stereotype of what the teenagers listen to. it means that the vision and feeling of music are just unique to all of us, and that there is no rule that set it out. (anyway, it's almost one of the matters of this movie)

you can be old and like hannah montana; you can be young and like baroque music; in opposition of what the stereotypes impose.

she didn't intend to tell more.

  • @cammigurlgonewild Good for you Camille, you have good taste in music!

  • @cammigurlgonewild Good for you Camille, you have good taste in music!

  • @cammigurlgonewild I understand you perfectly. I'm only 21 and the majority of my age group is unable to appreciate this kind of music, this kind of films... this kind of life?

I'm glad to know that I'm not the only young person who likes baroque music and baroque conception of life.

  • @TheSpanishGentlemen ...the 'majority'...does not aim for diversity, or new diffrences...that is why oftentimes referred to as ',the herd'...

  • @cammigurlgonewild so, when you will be older - just marry me ;)

  • Glad to hear someone has the same taste in music and films! :)

  • Beautiful melody. Very good performance. Thanks to Kordisgeorge per share. 5 *

  • For Leo Zhang.... Cellist extrordinaire.

  • not a cello, thats a Viola De Gamba

  • Thank you for the correction iWyke2

Since your expertise on this type of instrument dwarfs mine perhaps you could suggest another piece I should expose my ears to? Thanks

    Toronto Canada

  • This is one of my all time favorite movies and soundtracks and composers. The instrument is breathtaking!

  • I AWARD THIS 4 1/2 GRYPHONS....As this performance is shreiking with ghostly paranormal overtones associated with ghosts.

This isn't music...but the sound of souls trapped in between realms. And God...it's good.

  • It's a beautiful story, about all different kinds of love.

  • For mon amie DAGMAR!

  • what is the name of the painting which represented by the table and the bottle????

  • I am sad, angry, but then I remember when I first encountered this wonder...

  • For anyone who hasn't actually seen the film, the woman he is playing to is his wife. He's crying because, she's dead. Note at the end the broken biscuit on the table. Its a cornerstone of the film's message.

  • Oh, is this a piece by Sainte-Colombe, or is it composed by Jordi Savall? I heard that there is a mix of authentic french baroque music and some of Jordi Savall's own music.

  • From "Les Pleurs", piece for two viols (arranged for one viol by Savall).

  • I mean sound and image aren't adjusted !!

  • Jean-Pierre Marielle is no cellist or violist. There's not match between fingers and sound to look for.

  • somebody knows where can i download this film?

  • no but you can buy it or rent it...

  • Makes me cry.

  • I liked this movie because it captured so well the esoteric culture surrounding instruments like the viol and lute in 17th-c France. But this actor's left hand drives me crazy. It is obviously not stopping the right strings at the right frets. I wish it could have been kept out of the shot. It was so distracting that it almost ruined the movie for me.

  • Guess I can deem me lucky not to be a trained instrumentalist. - It's that basic problem that an actor's skills lie basically on acting. On a quite different level the way movie cops and criminals sling their guns is also often far from each reality.

  • It's true, but i think sound and image aren't adjusted (example: sound before string D )

  • total agree!

  • I know what you mean exactly. Its quite clear he has absolutely no idea how to play. I just try my best to ignore it. I think they fixed it a bit on the DVD, but it still is quite ckearky faked.

  • seriously the synchronisation of hands and viola is not the most important thing in the film. i mean te most importat is the emotion you feel...

  • Fantastique....

  • i love this film and music

  • Yep.

  • Wow! +4 for this simple confirming statement

    Jesuislajeaunefille (young woman)

I wrack my brain creating intelligent, well thought out rhetoric to provoke thought and then struggle to receive a +1, +2 0r a rare +3 rating. It must be that small 'i' you used to commence your statement.

    Toronto, Canada

With mine your now+5. i agree with your sentiments about 'Tous les matins du monde'

(what a pain!... the Viola has made me cry... the tears of Sainte Colombe... the flashback of his wife... great scene).

  • Mille excuses : Jean-Pierre Marielle.

  • incredibile scena, musica, veramente toccante.

  • Obra Maestra
