  • I am truly a big fan of the movement, but campagins and/or events like this *weaken* our view in the public's eye , imho ...

  • You people in this video are retarded! Complaining about that you can't look at the source code of an operating system witch is closed source and does not want the source code revealed... my god! Even people who don't program don't care about the source don't because it's not worth looking at! Do I program? No!

  • Since you already started reading you can't stop.My name is Kalena.I have black hair, and green eyes.I am 13.I was abused my whole life.I have no ears or nose, because my parents chopped them off with a rusty fork.I am dead.I will show up in your room in 13 days and kill you be chopping off your body parts, with a rusty fork unless you repost this on five pages.THIS IS NO JOKE!! If you do,something good will happen to you within 13 days.If you dont believe this, wait

  • You guys are kinda retarded. Bitching about the fact you aren't able to look at source code of other people who would rather not share.

  • Software should not be free, it should be open and easy to extend/modify.

  • What a bunch of loons. Free software and open source will never be taken seriously if we act like this.

  • Whatever dude.

  • These people are really jobless. Even Linus Torvalds dont consider what he does as free software because of arse wankers like these. If you love free software and you feel it is good use it and leave others the fuck alone. Bunch of kids who call themselves adult. I just couldn't stop laughing after watching this video. BTW, if free software is so good where is Gnu Hurd? If not for Torvalds you would not even have any OS to use. Buahahahaha

  • @kleb100 Lulz, and without GNU, Torvalds can't use the GCC to compile his Kernel. Also, all the necesarry tools whould be missing.

  • Microsoft should be broken up into smaller companies

  • If they prefer FOSS over proprietary software, they should be praising Linux and wearing penguin shirts instead of doing embarrasing and useless shit like this. The people in this video have the kind of attitude that generates unnecessary hatred and war.

    As Torvalds has said:

"There are 'extremists' in the free software world, but that's one major reason why I don't call what I do 'free software' any more. I don't want to be associated with the people for whom it's about exclusion and hatred. "

  • Why are they throwing away Mac OS X? Darwin, the kernel of OSX is APSL, which means its free software.

  • The Mac OS itself is a very non-free system. It has more DRM than even Windows 7 has. And it is harder to avoid it because there is not so much software for Mac OS.

  • Sorry, I meant Open Source Software.

But it is possible for binary FOSS programs to have DRM.

  • Nice work !! Get a lot of talk about it !!!

  • This sort of retarded fanboi behaviour makes me embarrased to be a Linux user.

  • I was just looking for the definition of "retarded". Good that i found this video!

  • So I find it sort of funny how even the activists were laughing when doing their "duty". "releasing their new er DATED windows 7"

  • Just to make sure, I want it to be clear I think these guys are doing a crackerjack job of letting themselves look ridiculously stupid.

  • Wow, this is pathetic.

  • this is embarrassing

  • GPL software, because programmers don't have families to feed.

  • what do we want?

    communism!

    when do we want it?

    now!

  • I'm sorry. I have been a user of Ubuntu since 2005 and Firefox since before it was even called that, among other examples of FOSS I use on a daily basis - but this is moronic. A guy dancing around in a Gnu mask is going to raise (positive) awareness of FOSS? That's really something you people thought would happen?

  • Microsoft is a criminal organization and must be disbanded and Gates and Ballmer sent to Haague to stand for the crimes against humanity.

  • I agree.

  • Better?

stopit543 you are so deluded. How do you define better? Is it the implementation of DRM that makes your computer kowtow to the RIAA and MPAA? Perhaps it is the security flaw ridden software that leaves windows users wide open to hacking.

Or do you mean better because you are being paid my Microsoft to slam Linux? Yeah, I thought so...

  • YouAreGettingPaidByMicrosoft(TM)

  • This guy talks about how Microsoft is against Open Document when the latest update for Office 2007 includes the ability to save files in an open document format.

  • Fail.

If free software was better. I wouldn't prefer Windows 7 to linux. How many people who have open source software actually use that ability to fix errors? Probably about .05%. Gimp is no photoshop. Microsoft Office and iWork are much better than open office.

  • Not everyone fixes errors of course, but there are still a lot more than people who fixes MS-stuff. Then there are people who provide feedback through questions on forums and so on, which actually helps. When did you last click "send error-report" and thought it mattered?

Linux is only about 2% of the market currently, and yet a lot of people are of the oppinion that it is matching Windows and Mac. Imagine what we could do with 4% considering it's fuelled by the community.

  • During the Windows 7 Beta I used the "Send Feedback" button all the time. I suggested a lot of new features and reported bugs. When the RC came around, all of the bugs I found were fixed and all of the suggestions I made were used. That is the last time I sent an error report that did matter. I'm not saying linux is terrible, it certainly is decent however the current free software available is not better than what is offered in proprietary software in my opinion.

  • Ran out of Characters so i'll continue. Gimp is a very good piece of software and so is OpenOffice, however the makers of Office and Photoshop I paid to work on this so they always come out with better products. Microsoft employees are paid to fix bugs, whenever there is a security issue found the issue is fixed by the end of the month, usually by the next tuesday. Once again, I'm not against linux however I don't think proprietary software is the devil like these people make it out to be.

  • 1 month is plenty of time to do your damage as a hacker. Even worse, the planned updating (ie. patch-tuesday every second tuesday in the month) makes fixes predictable, as people who found an exploit would simply wait to the wednesday after.

On average security-holes in open source gets closed 2 days after it's discovered, and a patch gets released.

  • I suppose that is a pretty good advanatage to open source. Maybe microsoft should change from scheduled updates to updates as soon as they find a fix for it. However, I must say that I haven't had a virus get on my computer since I got Vista. I use Free anti-viruses and I haven't had to deal with viruses at all since I used them.

  • i like windows,linux or mac sux :)))
