the 'technical' name for them is artificial harmonics, but most everybody just calls them pick squeals.

You kinda choke up on the pick and hit the string with the meat of your thumb immediately after picking the string. basically what you're doing is generating a new vibration point for the string that produces a higher pitched harmonic overtone, usually an octave, but it can be other pitches as well.

You have the overtone series on every string of the guitar. Every time you play a note, all of those artificial harmonics are inside the note you play, as an overtone. What you do when you play an A.H., or Pinch Harmonic, is you're singling out that particular frequency to hear it better...

There really isn't a difference between an artificial or a pinch harmonic. Pinch harmonic's just the street name we gave it as guitarists.

agreed. i think the real problem with his harmonics is that he doesn't stop doing them. i mean, do them once or twice and it's ok, it's your own style, but if you do them over and over they're going to become boring and annoying. it's like yngwie; god and everybody knows that he is an extraordinarily amazing guitarist, but if you keep playing the whole time at a great speed it's going to become annoying. still, they both are great guitarists
