  • funny how hd tvs are so cheap these days (2011) compared to back then (early 2007)

  • dont hdtvs have built in digital tuners?

  • at 1.25 in the background is that man on the t.v eating that woman's foot

  • wait....did he just say the exact same prices for HD and regular TV....wtf lol

  • They are called connections you fat fucking basterd!!! And there is no such thing as "blue data". Dumb-ass...

  • now there is a new thing called the 3D TV!!!

stupid this was in 2007 update your vids man

  • he does know

  • In all fairness look at the date the video was posted (2007). No mention of HDMI or built in DTV tuners (even though that was a AUDIO amplifer they zoomed in on NOT a set top box). Seriously HSW needs to update this video.

  • he dont know how to work

  • i dont have a decoder thingimig.....

  • so according to this guy, i should be able to plug in just the blue cable and only the blue pixels will light up the way they should and same with red and green or a mix of them

  • what the fuck!!!?? What an idiot!!!

  • Who be an idiot to who buys a tv which requires separate receiver unit?

  • yes 1920 is ten times more than 500. great math man.

  • @nickwoo2

    1,920 x 1,000 = 1,920,000

    500 x 500 = 250,000

    1,920,000 / 250,000 = 7.68

So it's almost 8 times as many.

While still not entirely accurate, at least he was using the correct numbers.

  • this didn't explain shit dude lol

  • Interlaced TVs are only using half its pixels at any one time.

  • "How stuff works".. Not " Let me tell you the difference"

Anyways, there are HD-Ready and Full HD tv being offered. And there are many varients of HD like 720p, 720i, 1080p, 1080i. "I" stands for interlaced and "P" stands for progressive.

P is better as all lines of pixels are being shown at the same time, "I" just shows alternate lines of pixels and keeps alternating themselves.

Getting my 37" Full HD 1080p TV real soon as my new computer monitor!! ;D

  • hahhaa 3stars

  • HDMI FTW

  • DVI is good too.

  • DVI TO HDMI CABLE FTW

  • If you watch their other TV video it shows you how a standard TV works and this is just an extension to that saying that there is more pixels on the screen.

  • God, I want a fucking up close comparison, not 2 different screens showing me, I can't remember what the other image EXACTLY looked like so I dont see a difference!!! You have got to get me a 5second video of just a close up of two different TVs mounted on the wall, showing the same picture (a moving one, such as a movie), along with BLU RAY

  • This is not how HD TV's work. it was a brief explanation of the differences between HD and Tube TV's.

  • Damm Rigth-!

  • It's "Damn Right!" not "Damm Rigth-!", dumbass...

  • Dumbass your mama u fu.king ignorat. i am form Mexico. I will a gringo turist today jusf for the fun of it pinche gringo pendejo!!!

  • lol that was funny

  • @DarthCybie thats random

  • Exactly

  • No, this is WHY HDTV costs more. Not how it works.

You guys need to start making the titles fit the movie.

  • why would you have to buy a decoder what the hell?

  • basically an xbox or ps3 to play games, or an HD receiver to watch tv, or a blu ray player =]

  • Hohoho, mine receptor heat a lot, so, i instaled a USB fan.

  • HDMI has all that.

Standard TV can have 3 jacks, red, white and yellow.

Yellow being the picture and the others left and right sound.

His right that you need 3 just for the image, so now HDTV has 5. Or a HDMI cable which has it all in one.

  • Those component cables are not for RGB, red, green and blue color information. One is for Luminescence and two are for chrominance.

  • Exactly, the "green" cable is for Y, or luminance (brightness), the the blue and red are for the difference between blue and red from the luminance.

  • i was gonna say that

  • This is the worst video I ever saw.

  • get a, Full HD 1080 Fukn p, and a ps fukn 3

  • Seperate Reciever just sucks, they should have it built in with the attena in the house so we don't have to pay more for HDTV RECIEVERS.

  • TVs now have decoders built on?

  • I have my PS3 on my HDTV which have no HDMI WHICH SUCKS but component HD with 26" Maganvox LCD 720P, my games goes at 720P, 1080i HD for blu-ray , 480i dvd.

  • Dude same here man , same here ! LOL

  • i was playing my 360 and ps3 on a regular tv then i finnaly got an hdtv and i brought the hdmi cable for ps3 and set it on 720p and component cables to and set it on 720p i played the game and i saw a big difference more colors and more clear i saw a big difference so easily

  • i have the red, blue, and green cables on my tv, but it's not hd. can anyone tell me wat their for.

  • Component 480i. It'll make the image a little better.

  • This guy is retarded. He doesn't know shit.

  • ya achD achD

  • yeah he is a feaking stupid

  • can u use cable

  • the maximum resolution is higher now.

they go past 2500x1300 or something like that

  • 2560x1600.

  • "theres a difference in pixelzzzzzzzz."

  • yeah. I agree.

  • what's thediference about 1080i and 1080p?

  • 1080i is less shiny than 1080p=)

    interlaced=i

    and

    p= progressive

    i think=)

  • i am a teknoligi from norway

  • This is so out dated it is like watching "Back To The Future". YouTube should really have an auto delete for such old tech. Just my thought.

  • Sorry, but I can't notice any difference between HD and regular TV. I have a Xbox 360 and just recently hooked up the HD cables to my HD Projection TV and all I'm noticing is a wider screen. I can't tell any difference in graphical detail.

  • did you turn the cable switch to "hdtv"

  • If you put your regular SDTV right beside your HDTV you would notice.

  • well that didnt even tell you how HDTV works just about the hardware thats used for hdtv this video was pointless

  • Are you serious? This dude is full of Bullshit.

  • is this guy stupid? normal tvs arent 'pixels'

there rays of light which react to phosphor...so technically there not 'pixels" as such>....

  • all he said was what it is

  • 10 times the number of pixels i think this guy needs to learn his maths its less than four times the number of pixels 3.7 times the total number is.

  • i just bought ps3 and i don't know what is the difference between the tv and the hd tv.

most of ps3 games works with hd tv but does it worth to buy one ?

  • Yes! the hd tv makes it so much more better it makes it so clear the quality is so crisp clear and its just awesome butfor the ps3 you have to buy seperate HD cords

  • gimp

  • lol thats how hdtv works thats stupid

he just explained where to put the cables and he told us how many pixels they have and how much they cost lol

  • wot was he sayin bout a box that needs to decode the HDTV signals?? isnt that basically ur HD cable box?

  • well that didnt even tell you how HDTV works juat about the hardware thats used this video was pointless

  • he is a pedofile and not how stuff works.

  • i have a HDTV but i dont have decoder.

  • yep tht was most definatley ages ago cause now we have hdmi's and all we need is sky hd or a hddvd player or a 360 or ps3 to do hd things, he just complicates things

  • Yea that was made maybe 5 years ago

  • this is a terrible video. Not so good information.

  • Wrong noobcake.

The green component cable is luminance(Y), the blue cable is blue chrominance(Cb) and the red cable is red chrominance(Cr).

  • Oh my god... How Stuff Works is wrong in just about everything technology. Component cables displaying HDTV? When did they film this? Back when 720p was "full HD?" Component cables are EDTV, not HDTV! And wtf is with saying that more bandwidth = more cables? HDMI is 5.1 surround and 1080p on the same wire, uncompressed! Jeez these people don't even know what they're talking about.

  • Very nice video indeed.

Its sad to know that somepeople can't understand a simple video like this one, the info that more bandwith means must use more cables is right, in the case we are refering to analog ones. How can be possible a comment comparing components cable with hdmi, you're opinion is simply meaningless. Learn before posting please.

  • hey dude i don't think Born2kill even knows the difference between EDTV, and HDTV

  • but the man said about 1900x1080 resoulutions which is just about full hd.

  • Hey dude r u saying component video can't out put in 720p or higher, cause in the US 720p is considered HD u know, right? Where the f did u hear this? U're info doesn't sound entirely accurate.

  • Cool thanks for the info :)

  • kool i love HD tv's

    Darknessnolan

  • -_-

  • So many factual errors....

  • very nice..
